Why was I born? Why was I made to suffer? Every night I cry myself to sleep hoping I don't wake up. I tried to hang myself twice already. I smoke and drink like a fish to expediate my death. My mom just won't let me go. She cries for me to stay. But why, why did I have to be born? Why couldn't I have remained in the realm of non-existence?

Are there any other asylum seeker on /int/?

My name is Michael Yu. I have posted before, but have never met any other asylum seekers before. If you have successfully sought asylum in a developed nation please tell your story in this thread and tell us about your country of origin.

I grew up in the Xinjiang province of western China. I trained to become a police officer when I finished high school, and ended up working as a prison guard. The prison I worked at was for death row in mates.

We saw both male and female prisoners. Most of them were from Xinjiang, people who have committed acts of terrorism, supported such acts, dealt in organized crime, and activists. We also had some prisoners from outside of Xinjiang, mostly illegal African migrants from Guangzhou who had been charged with drug/human trafficking.

My daughter moved to New Zealand when she turned 18 for university and was able to get permanent residency afterwards. I came here on a visa to visit her, and refused to leave seeking asylum. I had given testimony of crimes against humanity in such prisons to a reporter in Hong Kong one week earlier. This was the basis of my application.

Since then I have work as a taxi driver, but hope to get a job in prison sometime soon as it is where I am most experience.

I know a lot of people on here do not like migrants, but I am greatful for New Zealand welcoming my family and I love this country.
