Anything you want to add is welcome, hell, introduce me to some new artists.

Questions that don't deserve their own thread.
does anyone have that image the breaks down the colours underneath the skin of the face both simply (forehead=yellow, cheeks/nose=red, chin=blue) and more complexly? i believe the explanation was illustrated on a male bust

I want to get into graffiti, not tagging on walls and Shit I mean drawing/spraying inside, I did a bit of it in HS and really enjoyed it what are some good books to learn?

How do you call this style in general? The one with many lines? Any examples of early inspirations.? Thanks.
I've seen a lot of people and many professionals using 3D Models for their illustrations.
I was wondering what are the benefits for this?
I'm guessing lighting and values would be a lot easier if you've got a model to paint on top of.
Would it be worth my time to learn 3D Modelling for my illustrations?
>>2544956
It would be beneficial to learn 3D modelling, yes but the majority of illustrators and other artists use 3D models as a tool to help speed up workflow. From what I have seen and heard it's best if you can already draw and paint something without the help of something like 3D models, the model just helps you get more done in less time,
>>2544956
I think the ultimate use of 3d would be to use it in a manner similar to how Gurney uses physical maquettes for light reference. Think in terms of creating reference for light, shadow and perspective etc. rather than a base to paint over. It's impossible to calculate all cast shadows in a complex scene correctly, it makes sense it can be extremely useful. Obviously you need solid fundamentals to have the most use of it.

the artist of Gantz did it
Something I drew last June.
its not good senpai.

Why is this place so narrow focused? I don't necessarily think what is posted here is bad. But I am curious as to why this place feels limited in what is posted.
Pic unrelated.
>>2544409
It's not like there's a lack of them per se. They are there; they're just not as prominent as other mediums here.
Still, the reason everything here is weighted towards illustration and painting boils down to accessibility and the website's userbase which is mostly comprised of cartoon/video game fanatics.
>wanting to talk about that other gay crap

how many hours do you want to be putting in a week?
>please no shitposting about quality over quantity

putting in 30 hours a week on average, usually 3-5 hours a day. my ideal would be 50 hours a week (7hrs a day)
>>2538022
10 hours drawing 5 hours watching lectures
An hour a day so seven
I want to put in eight hours a day and eventually sixteen

Ye', I'm that retarded. I'm cracking open the Loomis books and I'm doing my best to understand them and mimic him, but when it all comes down to it, I can't ever be certain it's sinking in. Considering illustration is a skill and, as a result, takes so long to develop any kind of improvement, how can I be sure I'm actually freakin' improving? That I'm studying properly? That I'm not practicing shit to master shit? I genuinely am at the most base level of 'what am i even doing'.
Join a community where others can see your progress and criticize you (and grow a thick skin if you haven't already).
Make the shame of not working hard enough and the fear of not progressing in front of everyone else's eyes after months your fuel.
???
several years later, git gud
You seek criticism from others if you don't trust yourself, but you need to cultivate your ability to be self critical as well.
Being self critical isn't looking art your art, going "it's shit" and feeling like garbage. It's analysing your work and determining what you're doing wrong. When you know that, you can seek out books/videos/etc teaching that thing and you can practice it.
Obviously though when starting out, everything is shit. Don't fret overly much about 'practising wrong' until you've got some mileage and baseline fundamentals. Brute force it and just put the time in.
>>2544961
>how can I be sure I'm actually freakin' improving
Obvious answer: keep your drawings with a date, and from time to time, compare them.
And >>2544975 is correct, don't be critical for the sake of feeling retarded, you're supposed to think how to make the picture better, not how "late" you are compared to some internet artist with a Lovecraftian name like Alpelflelgler.
> Pic related, taken from chapter 1 of Keys to Drawing
I know I'm taking a risk knowing what this site is, but i have published a free ebook that is a small collection of my poetry. I would really be thankful if you guys look at it. It is called Seeking Sophia and it is on smash words.com.
The website is smash words.com, the book is Seeking Sophia by Adam R. Shipley
First off, this is a board for visual art, go to /lit/.
Second off, we have a self promotion thread, you didn't need to make your own.

I just took the pencil in pant and learned from bert dodson.
You can learn it by shading a basic figure in paint in less than 5 minutes. Try it.

I'd just like to say that it's an honour to have you on this board Mr Trump

Have you tried reflecting on what you're doing and changing something about your approach to art to see if you improve faster?
When did you start?
Is this just another excuse for a feels thread?

Anon-chan famalan ;-;
How do I draw hair ? I actually never did before, at least, not women long hair.
I'm not even sure if the physic of the hair is right on my drawing. I'm stuck and I really don't know what to do about them.
>>2544605
Put in the tone of the hair and pull some lines through to indicate. Don't draw individual strings.
>>2544607
So I make everything black and add some black lines ?
>>2544614
Hair has different kind of tones. Highlights, Midtones and shadows. If you dont know this kind of thing, drawing realistic hair is difficult.
Hi guys,
I'm looking to get into art - I'm always in awe of what my arty friends show me, and know I could spend all day admiring paintings and possibly learning to draw myself, but I have no idea how to begin. I'm literally at what you guys would probably call the basic, Mona Lisa, Salvador Dali kind of stage.
How do you find artists who you admire? What are some fundamentals about art? Am i correct in thinking that in terms of psychedelia, painters got there before musicians by a few centuries?
How do you consume art, is it improper to simply look at an artist's work on Google Images? Do you go for a coffee-table book instead?
Is it better to buy unique paintings, rather than mass-produced reproductions of the classics? Any particular blogs to follow?
>>2543673
>How do you find artists who you admire?
Once you have a general idea of your tastes it is easy to find more similar artists since no one exists in a vacuum.
If I were you I would spend a few evenings just casually skimming through wikipedia's pages on art history and familiarizing yourself with general movements and what they looked like. From there you can decide what you like and delve deeper into more specific things. If you just want to browse a lot of art, then wikiart or the-athenaeum or google art project are all good.
>What are some fundamentals about art?
There will be different answers to this, and to do it properly you would need a book or two to cover it all. If you just want to know how to look at or appreciate art you just need to know your taste, the context of the image, the subject matter, and some idea of the techniques used.
>How do you consume art, is it improper to simply look at an artist's work on Google Images? Do you go for a coffee-table book instead?
Both are fine. Going to galleries is the best because you see the original and not a reproduction. With the internet though you can find incredibly high resolution images which are almost as good as the real thing.
>Is it better to buy unique paintings, rather than mass-produced reproductions of the classics?
Depends on what you want out of it. Nether is better than the other, they are just different.
This Anon >>2543689 said it all very well. If you want to go drawing/painting yourself, check out new sticky that is being currently made, you have link to it in /beg/inner thread in OP. Also art book thread and first post is worth checking out.
Besides stuff you would often find on /ic/ which is usually for realist/classical art education, I would advise you finding some stuff about composition, narrative aspect of art and design.
Myself would recommend EveryFrameAPainting channel, while usually dealing with films, stuff from it carries to other branches of art/creative industries.
>>2543673
Read 'The Art of Art History' by Preziosi to get a good overview of art as a whole.
What does /ic/ think of conceptual art?
Mutt was the first one to do something like this so he gets a free pass. Everyone after that is complete garbage
>>2540861
>Mutt
Really?
I actually like it, it often provokes interesting thought or is at least entertaining to look at. I don't really consider it to be true art, but I think it's fun.
