Everyone can copy from reality with enough time and training. What's actually hard to do is to go beyond the conventional and come up with new ways of engaging with the public.

We occasionally get good threads for art inspiration, but generally it seems the stuff that's posted are finished pieces.

Can we get a thread for really aesthetic sketches / studies / unfinished pieces by good artists? I'll start with a few.

Not much of a secret to be honest. They just key their colors really well, in a very controlled manner. The hues are all very close to each other, going from magenta, to reds, a little bit into yellows and that's it. You won't find a single hue on the figure that isn't keyed to this very narrow, warm tone, the only thing that changes a lot is the saturation. Then he adds a strong complimentary to the background and during the rendering, he introduces that complimentary color into the figure (sensibly, in the form of skylight hitting the forms) and vice versa, he adds subtle pink'ish color highlights from the figure into the background.

That's not a chinese secret but a fairly common technique used by lots of western painters as well.

So I made this tattoo on my forearm a week ago and I want to go all the way but not okay with follow more besides forest itself

>>
i didn't quite understand what you want (cus your english is fucked but no biggie) but if you want nothing else but forest then there are couple variations, maybe a bigger tree on the backside, or a scarcer part of the forest with burnt trees and crows.

If you want more than just trees, then I'd go with a looming castle in the back or a small cabin puffing smoke.
>>
i hope you realise you are the least creative person ive ever met, i personally know 3 people with the exact same tattoo and have said the exact same thing, except they had it all around the wrist and the wolf was white and they had the trees going into animal heads followed by mountains and shit if that helps, yours truly - alot of people

Does this shit trigger anyone else?

Almost every phone, tablet and computer now use these LED backlit screens, and they make everything look alien and strange. Red and blues are exaggerated heavily and harmony is left behind for boldness. It's like when you look at the world and then at the screen, you have to "change keys", because they're not saying the same thing. LEDs are more immediately impressive but lose out on the complexity that the LCDs had

Pic related was one of the few examples I could find on google (LED is left), I'll see I can find some more

phone is LED in this one

notice the top left corner is green in the tablet and blue in the phone. all the tablet colours are balanced nicely (if you look past the bad picture quality) whereas the phone's are just loud, the red of the dress is almost overwhelming

one is an intricate harmony and the other fields of colour shouting at you

let me know if you guys get this too, it's possible i just have undiagnosed autism

You're quite correct, this is why I like my old MacBook so much - the excellent LCD display.

LED-based screens are an abomination if you value accurate colour reproduction.

that's not a character, that's a generic sprite you use for inconsequential background npcs, usually representing an entire class of people (eg common generic soldier), due to complete lack of defining characteristics or character itself

I wanna start painting as a venting tool for my problems, any paintfags that can tell me where/how to start? I've never painted outside of gay-ass 5th grade art special shit where everybody painted stickfigures side by side, so I have zero ACTUAL experience.

'if there is a voice inside your head that says 'i can't paint' then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced' -vincent van gogh.

buy paints.and canvas.
get a photograph of what you want to paint.
sketch it onto the canvas with a pencil.
then try and paint it.
trial and error. learn from your mistakes.
keep working and working, copying other artists you admire, be it picasso, van gogh, who ever, until you create something you're happy with.

Hey /ic/,

I'm on the hunt for Nathan Fowkes Schoolism class - Landscape Sketching in Watercolor and Gouache and since all the schoolism stuff is off cgpeers this is the only place I can think to turn.

I have his Colour and Light class as well as Dice's if anybody is interested.

Also vid request general

Why don't you just buy a sub? Get a job? If you can't pay for it with commission money the class won't magically make you better artist.

Your logic is fucking retarded; most people go with "stealing is bad" but your argument is "if you aren't already successful, these are of no use to you" which contradicts the whole idea of the tutorial in the first place. The goal is to use the information to grow as an artist, if you already are making the money it's clear that you don't need this. But if you aren't making money off of your work, you don't need to improve?

or maybe its just really, really flimsy bait. If so, here's your (you), prick

Who started the trend of putting chromatic aberration on any image you make? Why did it get so popular?
16 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
Helps pull the eye from mistakes.
Most people will just glance at a picture and judge it, chromatic abberration is just to distract.

Some people also think it looks good.

it looks good if it's done making choices based on some ground, it push edges you wan't to push when done right, with color contrast, it makes edges more readable when the layer placements are not too far (then it gets blurry)

there's no discussion it's over used with disgusting criterias tho

Learn how to present your work. This is almost unbearable to look at it.

But instead of just being a asshole I'm actually going to give you a piece of useful advice of how you can photograph your drawings with a cellphone.
Take a small piece of tape and stick the drawing to a wall in a room with good lighting and then take a picture of it. That's it. It's generally harder to take a good picture of something laying on a horisontal surface such as a table
