I dont get the line of action.
How does it work?
How do you decide what limbs to allign to it?
Theres something missing
post some images of your own and I'll show you
You just gotta feel it.
>>2697943
it's not really an exact science or anything, just an abstraction of the overall flow of the figure. The more the limbs form a consecutive line with the spine, the stronger the line of action. It always goes from the spine towards the limb that lines up with the flow of the spine the most. In a grounded figure, that's usually the weight bearing leg.

lol is that mr.concept art?
Do you ever think sometimes you're holding yourself back by drawing nothing but anime all the time?
>>2692195
>drawing nothing but anime all the time
>implying
>>2692195
I feel I'm holding myself back by NOT drawing anime, but I don't do it cause of that onage /ic/ meme image with the anime girls on one side and a renaissance masterpiece on the other.
>>2692195
I realized this today and made a vow to stop and go back to square 1. But it's hard to not want to draw anime and every time I break my vow I waste weeks sometimes a month drawing anime trash when I should be plowing the fundies.
Is there a method to make drawing arms easier? Any time I try they turn out like deformed tubes, especially when I try to attach them to the body.

hehe, it's holding the hat :^)

Thank me later.
I kind of use these shapes as sketch references. As for extreme realism, well...
Anyone up for some spooky daily drawing challenge? Any medium allowed for this one but if you are doing Inktober and prefer the Halloween theme over the official prompt list, feel free to join in on this as well.
>>2698926
They all sound like hentai themes
>>2698926
too spoopy
>>2698926
Sounds like something that can combine well with Inktober.
Hello Anons!
I come humbly to show my portfolio and ask for critiques. I want to become a Magic the Gathering artist, and one day illustrate my own story.

What's your stance on the fanart vs. original debate? I've listened to a few videos on this subject over the last couple of days and I'm interested in /ic/'s opinions.
what gender is this person.
And people who's primary subject is fan shit are degenerate.
The point of art is to get your own, or a clients ideas illustrated or conceptualized, they're as bad as members of the tumblr homogen or hyper generic 3d model render slaves.
Essentially anyone who falls into the broad umbrella of drawing ideas that aren't original to them or clients and isn't in some major way distinctive is a waste of ink and a tablet.
>>2699793
As I was watching the video I could the estrogen flowing through my veins, turning me into a whiny millennial transbian, so I had to shut it off.
Anyways, original ideas don't exist.
Ideas breed and multiply and fight with each other.
All art is fanart.
It's just that some degenerate it further until it can be legally called an original IP.
Every character out there can be traced back to previous characters.

fanart is specifically art created of a popular franchise for purposes of upvotes
you are dilluting the meaning
These are 2 pieces I made using my puke and glitter. What do you think?
strong, independent, and proud if you are a women.
I ate a bag of oreo wafers and puked them up on these two pieces of paper and I sprinkled some glitter on it. They have been drying in my garage for 2 years
Can we have a thread discussing the fundamentals of character design. Good Silhouette, matching color scheme, design matches personality/suits role, easy to recognize/iconic, etc...
I think there's a lot to be discussed here. Stuff that I don't really know too well.
To start things off, what do you guys think about characters changing design, costumes as a story progresses. I think One Piece has the best example of this. I personally like this a lot, but I have to ask, how much should a design stray, and how many things should change/remain consistent in your opinion?
Sorry for the shitty watermarked image, but it's the only one I could find that had all of Luffy's outifits.
>>2689852
You already kinda touched on what makes a good design. Recognizable silhouette, good colour scheme etc.
The thing about a lot of these designs is that the clothes don't really matter, so lon as the stance of the characters stay consistent with their personality. There are a lot of archtypes and tropes that character designers fall back on imho (which is not a bad thing). With Luffy, I don't even really notice the clothes, just how he presents himself in them. It reminds me of Goku. Same with the colour scheme; mostly warm/neutrals and some gold.
I don't even watch One Piece and I can already kind of tell what kind of character Luffy is without any added explination, which I think is the hallmark of a really good design.
>>2689856
I see.
But what about in the context of a story? I notice that in manga, even though characters can go through a lot of variations on their costumes, there is still a degree of consistency in their design. Typically, radical changes in design is reserved for radical progressions within the story, not just a jump from one arc to the next (which is what the costume change tends to be for).
So, what exactly is pushing it too far? What would you say are the parameters for a character to stay within in terms of consistency?
For example, I see that a lot of manga characters more or less always keep their hairstyle, and any variations tend to be very minimal. The only ones that come to mind to break this rule are Nami and Bulma. Bulma in particular had a lot of radical changes in design, from arc to arc, but I also feel that she could get away with that BECAUSE she wasn't the main character.
Thoughts?
>>2689864
>So, what exactly is pushing it too far?
depends on the world you build, if you are gonna make a world where drastic changes are common things your consumers won't be throw off by big changes in the character they attacked to
I really love this animation (pic related) and i cant find anything about it, everything is in korean and in weird forums, here is the gif http://i.imgur.com/jOxQfZ1.mp4
>>2681792
reminds me of that one hentai game that was animated in the same way
Looks like they might use Live 2D or whatever that software is to animate drawings and illustrations

ooh thanks i'm going to download that program
Okay, so I've been practicing and studying loomis, 3D construction, perspective, all that good stuff. And I can construct basically any human pose right now.
But I don't fucking understand eyes.
Loomis has like one fuckin page and it doesn't help. ESPECIALLY the side view. My eyes look like symbol drawn fucking garbage from the side. Proko's video is one of the things I hate most, where the artist will just draw an eye really close up in space from a frontal angle. That doesn't help me at all. Sometimes I'm drawing a human whose eyes are too far away to show the bottom of the top lid or the top of the bottom lid. So what the fuck then? What do I do? I don't want to be forced to copy a ref's values just because I don't have a clue how to properly create one
>>2698891
that picture there is pretty much a perfect explanation though
>>2698895
Doesn't help me draw shit like this
>>2698896
just copy the reference? there's also a eye in side profile in the top left box, it should help you, just copy everything you see in the drawing. and study other sources or references.
What music do you guys listen to while drawing? Why do you listen to music while you draw? To drown out the voices that say you will never make it? To get those creative juices flowing? I listen to music when I practice fundamentals and what not just to have a tune going while I plow through the hours of hard work. Varies from electro swing to metal to jazz to rock. Whatever I'm in the mood for. Discuss.
I find it hard to draw while not listening to music
It makes me more anxious than I already am... unless it's in a class or somewhere I need to hear something
When I'm trying something hard or when I have to be creative I put on something I already know, so I don't feel like I have to pay attention to the music
But if it's your average daily study I usually listen to stuff to help me relax... or maybe not relax, but, yeah, to drown out the voices
Here's what I've been listening to this month
Lately I've been listening to Blackmill and
other laid back electronic music. I find it
non distracting, yet interesting.
There are at least two other threads about this. Here's something:

Alright /ic/ I caught this on plebbit and I want the damn truth: is this making it?
This progress is from a woman who started drawing at age 30 and this is two years worth of effort. Is she godlike or shit-tier? And how do you git gud in two years?
>>2699200
>is this making it?
No.
>Is she godlike or shit-tier?
This is average 2 year progress.
>And how do you git gud in two years?
Study for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.

>2010 - 2012
Well, what's her work look like nowadays 4 years later?
find the question thread
Anybody know where I can find more of this artist's work? They had a tumblr once but they deleted.
>>2698402
The question is more like, why do you need it? its shit
>>2698590
Its a pretty cute animation. I'd like to know as well.
>>2698402
Why? this is just a shitty flash animation kids aged nine shit out about 3 of these a week.
Why haven't we discussed this guy yet? I stumbled upon him by accident and nearly creamed my pants.
I'd say his figure sketches are even better than Bridgman, 10/10 should study for both gesture and form.
>>2691236
Also if anyone's got his book, I'd suck a dick for it.
