Can somebody please educate me on what kind of art this is? I'd like to find more!

illustration album art
I like drawing realistic portraits. Working from life is fun, but rarely practical.
I like working from photos too, but I keep reading about things like lens distortion, value compression, and colour inaccuracy. Is this just memeing? What can be done to minimise those issues?
>>2707898
If you can't make your portrait from life, at least sit together and make a number of sketches, studies... photograph from different angles...
>>2707898
do both as much as possible so that you can learn how to interpret what the photo is saying in your own visual way.
A well taken photograph usually accounts for a lot of the issues, but if you're studying from pictures and selfies snapped from camera phones you're going to have some problem.
I fucking hate krita
How can a simple piece of software be so obfuscating?
Everytime I try to give it a chance I stumble upon more and more annoyances.
>>2702320
holy shit i feel the same way
ive been using sai for years and decided to move to krita, and im in hell
>>2702320
So use PS
>>2702320
How so? Only starting to try digital drawing and am starting with Krita for animation. What makes it annoying?
For those of you with gfs who draw is she better than you? If yes how do you feel?
>>2707961
Mostly from what I've seen the guy usually draws better. If the girl draws better then the guy often will feel insecure.
>>2707974
>tfw gf doesn't draw
>tfw makes me choose between drawing and her
>tfw insecure fucks can't appreciate what they have
>>2707998
>tfw no gf
>tfw you can't appreciate what you have
so is it worth it for a drawing pad? or at the very least a better alternative to the Surface Pro
>>2706538
It looks like it but we don't know because it hasnt come out yet or been reviewed
>>2706538
Completely piece of shit, what's the fucking point when you have to draw on board not on the screen
its not even out yet dude
and it's gonna cost like $800

Why haven't you made a Patreon for your webcomic /ic/?
Why haven't you, OP?

Personal vendettas are against the rules, newfriend.
Keep your bile in your tumblr.
Did anyone who made it 100% studied loomis?
Is loomis a meme at this point?
>>2708214
>100% studied loomis
Are you a fucking idiot?
Why would ANYBODY 100% study ANYBODY?
Yes Loomis is a meme. Him being a meme doesn't magically mean he's a useless learning resource, the reason he's meme tier is because he teaches a lot of the fundamentals beginners need to learn. 9 times out of 10 when a beginner royally fucks up a drawing a Loomis book offers a solution.
>>2708214
He's just a competent artist that gives fundamentals in a simple to understand way. But the fundamentals are the same whoever you study from. They will never change.
>>2708214
>translation: can I skip loomis and jump straight to anime?
No, OP. Do loomis.
I go to art school ask me anything, especially if you're considering going
>bc i know you're underage
>pic of shitty high school project
>>2703142

>>2703158

Only if you go to therapy or learn to budget your time
Basically saw this and thought this was a paint over. It could be the artist is amazingly good however, everything just aligns. He has other works which resembles paint overs, and hen you look at his personal stuff and the difference in level is noticeable.
>>2705728
Why don't you just ask the artist?
This is the original laid over the painted image with 50% opacity. There is no way this is not a paint over, period. But who do you even care, just draw instead of starting meaningless witch-hunts against some hacks on the internet.
What if I told you it's entirely possible to recreate an image with nothing but your eyes and pen/pencil?

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

If you were to train me for 26 week (6 month), with millions dollar on the line. What would the training to become illustrator looks like?
Taking account of work/education, body needs but lesser task and luxury (e.g entertainment and social aspect...too?)
Background: Spent 2 semester in local art institute before my parent pull me out due to financial problem (?) and put me to quantity surveyor course. All traditional medium. Haven't draw much since.

I'd basically do what Feng Zhu does at his school.
Force you to grind fundamentals non-stop for six months.
Hey, newfag here. Is it frowned upon to have social media links alongside artwork? What about watermarks, and other identifiable things? I'm not trying to be a faggot, I just want people to be able to follow my art if they like the work I post.
>>2708012
Watermarks across the artwork are considered tacky and bad so avoid it at all costs. Including at the bottom of the artwork your name and website or social media is fine as long as it isn't intrusive and is done tastefully and small. The point is not to scream at the viewer THIS IS ME GO TO MY SITE LOOK AT MY NAMEEEE, but rather to provide the information and have it available if they so choose, and to not have it detract from the artwork. You're free to write whatever you want in a caption when you post on a site if it's not actually directly on the image itself (you can include a link to your artstation on the comment part when you post on tumblr for example).
Also for what it's worth, I have seen a lot of people putting their artstation or facebook or whatever directly on their images, and while this is okay you to do I think it is safer to put your own website on the image since you control the hosting. Nothing looks dumber than a bunch of your images floating around with CGHub still written on it.
>>2708016
Okay, thank you. So if I posted an image, then it'd probably be okay to post my site in the comment section--which contains my social media links? Without getting shit for it of course
Working hard edition
Post your traditional works.

does a plein air still count as a plein air if you do a bit of the painting indoors for things like color blocking and such?
