16 hours is a meme, 3 hours of observational drawing a day is plenty to git gud, not sure what's so surprising about someone working hard and seeing results
>>
>>2761120
the question is how many of those 16 hours are EFFECTIVE hours.

if you are this uber good for you. but most normies get diminishing returns after 6 hours of quality learnings
>>
>>2761120
Unlike /ic/ she actually puts in the time to draw which is more important than numbers.

In order to be a competent concept artist you have to be able to create and communicate a SHIT ton of ideas for one design.

This means you don't get to turn in a "finished" product, you don't get to create just "one" character and most of your ideas are not going to make it in the final design.
You also have to be able to defend and state your ideas clearly, without being a dickhead.
It is absolutely mandatory to be able to take criticism and turn it into a product that other people are happy with.
Not only that but you also have to give directions, ideas and feedback to all your co-workers and yes, concept art ist never done by only one person.

Oh, and of course you have to have an excellent understanding of form, light and design. You have to be able to create shape languages that are consistent, perspective viewangles that show the most of the character and you'll most like never ever get to polish your drawings youself.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

Fine art stuff will vary sooo much depending on what you are interested in. Artists who work in realism will be in completely different social circles than the people who do abstract for example.

For general digital stuff, check out some gallery sites like Artstation and try to get in on social circles on facebook as many people are connected there.

Is there a way to apply mtg style foil sheet to any picture? If so, how? What film can I use and where do I get it? I would like to use it on a larger picture - A4 or bigger.
Or would I need to start with the foil first, mask the areas I want to keep shiny and then use some mediums over it so that I can paint on it? I was hoping to use it mainly with watercolors, but that wouldnt woork too well if I had to use it as the canvas..

What does /ic/ think about SF4 and 5 design and stylistic decisions?
I find them ridiculous and awful, and the grotesque bodies almost physically repulsive.
Now, there must be something wrong, as this is immensely popular.
What's your opinion?

Also I guess general discussion about design in famous IPs.

I like it. The exagerated features make the characters look imposing and fighter-ish, which contrasted with the colors and brush stroke aesthetics make for a very unique style.

The art direction of SF4 is brilliant, just not your taste i guess.

The anatomy is designed so that each of the crazy attacks actually look like they have impact.

it also brings to mind those really sketchy animation sequences they use in anime.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2AGs_qx8xg

The Brushstroke Ink effect style also feels very Asian, which sort of gives the game a sense of cultural identity.

I HATE the art of SF5, It feels like there was no art director, and it doesn't even look/feel like a Capcom game.

also, pic related.

Interesting.
In terms of design they seem to have completely crossed into fanfic territory with SF5.
Honestly I find both somewhat equally hideous.

How much Loomis does pic related needs seriously?

What do you think of SfXTekken then?

Since the last thread was deleted due to /pol/ shitposters, let's try this again.

How do you draw everyday? Obviously, it's not as simple as "Just do it" or "Stop being lazy." How do you block out all the panic attacks and such that come with drawing? How do you not lose your temper when nothing comes out the way you want? What's some good advice other than "practice until you don't suck anymore"?

Set aside time each day to draw, maybe an hour or two. In that time don't just stare at a blank piece of paper, but rather make some clear goals that are within your skill level. An easy way to start for example might be to get some anatomy books, and then copy out a few plates and read some pages. Do this each day and after a while you will have a decent understanding of anatomy. Then move onto figure drawing, you can use photos and a timer to do "poses" of different lengths. Or do a self portrait in a mirror. Or any of thousands of other exercises or ways of doing creative work. Just break down art into manageable chunks so you focus on learning a single isolated thing at a time that you can put all your attention to. Anxiety mostly comes from being overwhelmed so do baby steps in a logical fashion and eventually you will have walked quite a distance.

If you find anxiety comes from being too concerned with the results of each drawing, you can draw on printer paper and throw it out after each session. That way whether it is good or not is irrelevant and you can focus on learning and the process more.
>>
>>2766739
Thanks. I like the advice, but here's my problem: I've tried setting aside time specifically to draw countless times. I've ever tried periods as short as 5 minutes. Every time, I get so overwhelmed that I break down. I don't know what to do anymore. I tried medications, but that only made it worse.
>>
>>2766744
What overwhelms you? Are you an absolute beginner? Maybe try something like Keys to Drawing or Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain then. They will hand hold you at the very beginning stages.

I want to start painting in acrylic

will
-Titanium White
-Payne's Grey
-Burnt Umber
-Yellow Ochre
-Prussian Blue
-Crimson

be a good starting palette? anything I should drop? anything I should take?

should I be using a primer? should I be using something to mix the paints with to get more worth out of them like a gel or an oil?
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
You should start with a mono color pallette until you have honed your skill. You can always add more colors later once the values are established. I recommend a red or a blue if you go this route.
>>
>>2767560
You can pretty much nail it with

-Prussian blue
-Medium yellow
--Magenta

You should read the acrylic painter's bible by marylin scott if you want to hone your technique skills.

It's a great book with many exercises.
>>
>>2767565
Anon could start with a limited palette like the velazquez. Good range, makes you think in values and you have to contrast hues to get the illusion that it's more colorful than it is. But then I think in watercolor and have no idea how acrylic mixes so using only burnt sienna and ultramarine blue may not have the same value range.
