What is the biggest personal project you've done?
Were you proud of it?
What did other people think of it?
Where did you mess it up?

>I redrew a Moebius book and changed all the humanoids into Peanuts characters
>I only had really small paper, so I had to draw really small
>the scans are complete shit compared to the originals
>got mentioned on BoingBoing and some international sites
>only show it on /ic/ from then on

How do I train myself to draw all day everyday?
Can we have a group dedicated to drawing as much as possible?

i heard somewhere that everyone has two habits that they do to take their mind off actual work.

could be food, or tv, or video games, or drinking/drugs, or sex...

If you cut out one or both of those things you allow yourself to pass the time you'll find it's much easier to focus on artwork. Good artwork is about suffering, and putting your artwork before your own needs. Force yourself to suffer and you'll get better faster.

I think Feng Zhu had a video where he said to withhold having fun until you finish a certain number of hours of drawing per day, but I disagree with that. You should cut out something you do for fun entirely, and that frees up a lot of the space in your mind once you've lost the need for your particular vice.

Live a boring life, and you are more or less guarenteed to be a great artist, even if you only draw 4 or 5 hours a day.
>>
How do I shift my mindset from where art is painful and suffering to a point where I can't relax unless I'm creating art and it's as comfortable as playing video games or watching tv
It really makes me question whether or not I actually enjoy art if I can't fall into it easily
>>
>>2816346
Just draw some dumb shit for fun. Its not really possible for art to be fun 100% of the time, but I've been having a much better time since I started not taking it so seriously all the time.

Why haven't you taken advantage of the lonely frog posting /r9k/ beta male yet, and get into some of those NEET and autismbucks they get from the gubmint, /ic/? All you need to have is a Bagina (or claim to have one), and paint memes to make it.

Is there a way I can make money off of commissions while staying anonymous? Is it possible to have a separate paypal account but making it so that the client can't see your name?

I plan to pursue a phd and a career in academia(in science) in a relatively small field where almost everyone knows each other and I really dont want my name to be associated with gay furry porn

Use a business paypal account so that it shows your business name or use initials for your name.

I decided to open the catalogue and sample the state of how trash /ic/ is right now and came to these results, did it quickly so I probably missed a few:

>retards posting their shit art in their own thread - 27
>pop artist artist drama threads (irakli, sakimichan, etc) - 9
>self pity threads - 7
>"ID this art for me" threads - 3
>threads shitposting about talent - 2
>meta threads bitching about how shit /ic/ is - 2

As you can see, OP, you are one of 27 other retards who didn't take the half a second required to locate the beginner thread, which is on the first or second page 90% of the time.

Genuine question here: is copying master's drawings actually that good for learning?

I just don't see how it differs from drawing from like, since most times they're that good; what could they possibly teach you that you couldn't be taught some other (probably better) way? Say light, how is copying a master drawing going to teach you about how light works better than reading a book about light and doing a series of life studies and value exercises?

I just don't see it. Very curious about this since people make it out to be a big deal.

>I just don't see how it differs from drawing from like

Assuming you mean life, you'll notice the old masters aren't human photocopiers. They make decisions on where to add detail and where to leave it out, they make decisions on colour choice and value, they make decisions on brush economy, on composition, etc.

A book will probably teach you theory better than a master painting, and generally it's most useful for you to know the theory/basic fundamentals before you're studying master paintings because once you know that, you know what you're looking for. And that said: copying a master drawing isn't very helpful, studying one is. A good approach is to take a painting you already like and try to figure out what you like about it in concrete terms, then identify how the artist evoked that response. From there try to replicate it (usually with a study of the painting) and once you think you've got it, apply it to something new. Sometimes it also helps you 'discover' little tricks and shorthands they used which you didn't notice when just looking at the painting (like "oh that detailed looking reflection is actually just a squiggled line, and it's actually beige not pure white!"). There is nothing about a "master study" that means you need to replicate the painting brainlessly, if you like Rembrandt's values you can just do value studies of him.
>>
>>2818960
the point of the master study is about colour theory, brush mileage and also the belief that some of their style will rub off on you if you do enough of them.

You're not just re painting for the sake of it. You're supposed to be analysing the piece as you paint it. Teaching yourself to identify colors that aren't that obvious to see and learning how to use them in your own art.

The edges are badly cropped and the foliage looks Half-assed
>>
The environment is dully lit without a strong direct lightsource and the character is brightly lit with several strong lightsources (a rimlight from the left and one from above/behind - yet the cast shadow suggests it comes from the exact opposite direction somehow). The hard edges caused by badly cut out elements is not good either. For example the fog or the clouds have razersharp edges where in reality it would have lost edges or none at all.
>>
>>2815910
The rock that the character is standing on is angled slightly upwards yet the character is angled slightly down, looking like she is walking down a ramp instead of up.

Is Alphonso Dunn a good source for learning how to work with pen and ink? I haven't been able to find any artist or book that goes into detail about the process.

Guys please someone help me. I keep getting this fucking page advertised to me on Facebook, so today I clicked it.

It's called "Mini Gabi World"
https://www.minigabi.com/

What is this shit. What is this fucking shit? This person, probably some 50 year old man, has a 10 year old loli OC named "Gabi" who he has drawn around 3 times. He copy pastes these 3 drawings onto poorly filtered low res photos, and plain backgrounds posing with quotes he's stole from other people.

He then sells his "art" on canvases for £500+
Someone has genuinely bought one. Can someone please explain what the fuck is going on here? Why is this person doing this?

well i guess you could look at some other art..more modern art would probably be easier to blend into grafitti..look up some general movements...impressionism, expressionism, surrealism, neoplasticism, abstract expressionism, pop art....techniques or subjects could inspire you perhaps

do it like any other art, find artists that you like and study the fuck out of them, copy their pieces and try to get their shape design and colors and effects accurately, then try to apply it to your own stuff

"We must accept finite disappointment but we must never lose infinite hope."

The quote comes from one of the at least 8 books that Martin Luther King Jr. wrote in his lifetime called "Strength to Love", published in 1963. The book used material from his sermons, and focused on scriptural teaching and dealing with the problems of racism. Notably missing from the contents were his more controversial antiwar and anti-capitalist views; focusing more on a message of love, as the title states.

The passage the quote is from has actually been sourced for quite a few notable quotes from King; here's an excerpt:

"To guard ourselves from bitterness, we need the vision to see in this generation's ordeals the opportunity to transfigure both ourselves and American society. Our present suffering and our nonviolent struggle to be free may well offer to Western civilization the kind of spiritual dynamic so desperately needed for survival.
Some of us, of course, will die without having received the realization of freedom, but we must continue to sail on our uncharted course.
We must accept finite disappointment but we must never lose infinite hope. Only in this way shall we live without the fatigue of bitterness and the drain of resentment.
This was the secret of the survival of our slave foreparents."
