Serious question, how exactly does masters studies help you developing your skills? I always had the problem of not being able to notice mistakes in my art, do studies help with that? Or are they only training basic repetitive skills like rendering and measuring?

Master studies are used to copy style, not to understand the basics of drawing.

>I always had the problem of not being able to notice mistakes in my art

Make study
Put original on light box/ 50% opacity layer on top.
Notice mistakes.
Rememebr not to make those mistakes again.

So what if I want to draw like a master of realism, does that mean I will be able to draw realistically by copying him?

>>2820686
I am not talking about the studies themselves, but when I paint it tends to look like shit (I am decent at drawing but it becomes a mess once I start to put values and color into it on Photoshop)

But I can't tell why the colors and values are shit, I can only tell they are bad, but I don't know why, do studies help me develop a 'better eye'?

I have no real experience with art but I've been following the free proko lessons. I think I'm gonna buy the premium figure course and pick up some art books for self-study.

But is it honestly possible for a noob to teach themselves art without a class or art group?

I do NOT want to do art as a career. I'd like to make funny comics or cartoons, mostly for my own humor but also to share online. But since this isn't my career I don't want to devote 8+hrs a day.

So only drawing maybe 3-4hrs a day, no school, no class, no group of peers or other artists to help... can I actually teach myself? I've never drawn anything ever so I'm pretty bad. And I don't wanna take art "seriously" enough to pay for classes, but I am willing to spend the time to learn if it's possible to reach myself. Just looking for others' opinions or maybe experiences from other self-taught artists

Right I understand the materials and learning resources. I should clarify my question.

Classes and teachers make it easier for you to spot mistakes. Teachers can point out things they notice, help you improve, tell you what to work on.. same with a peer group.

A novice artist usually doesn't understand their mistakes and doesn't know how to correct them. Is it possible to learn that on your own?

There's no book or video course that can look at my work and tell me where to improve. Ideally I'd be able to look at my own work and fix it myself, but I'm hesitant to believe that's possible

Looks like it's imitating traditional airbrush illustations.
You'd want to set up masks and then use a brush that has a good splatter effect and work at a high resolution. Setting the brush to dissolve if you work in photoshop can work aswell. Clip studio has great splatter brushes.
I made a custom brush from the airbrush scan in pic related in Photoshop that worked really well. I no longer have the brush on my computer but I'm sure you can manage to make your own. Remember high resolution is key.
>>
>>2820311

And no, just slapping on a noise filter won't work.
>>
Soft brush with noise and opacity jitter set on dissolve brush mode.

How much do you get as an artist working in vidya industry? Let's say someone like Piotr Jabłoński, who worked on Dishonored 2.

just download art of dishonored 2 from cgpeers if you want to know the bigger extent of his work.

Answer to my own question (Thank you wikimedia)
“Galerie de Vues de la Rome Moderne”

Heres a classic meme for you on how to make perfect art that even ic can't get criticize.

1.) When you draw something, aim for 100% realism
2.) About half way through, when you realize you dont have the skills to actually do step one, purposely warp the proportions

Now your art will be taken seriously because you technically aimed for realism, but at the same time its purposely stylized!

Now go out, and get some porn commissions~

NO

THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT AND CORRECTION IN A DRAWING

AIM FOR GREATNESS, AND WHEN YOU ACHIEVE IT, MAKE IT BETTER.

DO NOT STOP IMPROVING IT, DO NOT GIVE UP

You seem like a cool dude

Help me out guys.
When I zoom out (on really small) and try to steadily draw a line, this is what I get when i Zoom In back to 100%. 2 mice, 1 wacom Intuos 4, all of em do it.

I got this problem on both of my computers and after searching the internet, it seems that it's a Windows 8/10 problem.

Can you please check if it is same for you, so I know if it is some driver issue or it is Windows problem and I can solve this problem not just for me, but for other people too?

Just open ANY drawing program, Create new canavas, zoom out so you see really small artboard and try to draw diagonal lines straight and slowly, report results.

Did you try? :-) There are plenty of threads people got this problem, but on different devices. They usually point out "Surface" other "Tablets" and other devices, but they have 1 think in common only - Windows.

Is it okay to learn how to draw on a tablet vs paper? I mean I have plenty of sketchbooks and all types of pencils, but my end game goal is to draw completely digital. So I'm wondering if it's worth drawing on a tablet entirely.

And I mean actually LEARNING on a tablet, like start from the basics (perspectives, shapes, lighting, Loomis, etc)

Use both. Don't prioritize one over the other. Medium doesn't matter when you're learning drawing fundies
>>
Use digital and trace to learn. Crab buckets who missed out on learning with digital will tell you otherwise, and the ones who've made it that have learned using this method will never admit it.

but what does really mean "to make it"?

is it just getting a job tangentially related to your drawing/painting skills? do you need to become rich and famous too?

do you need to be actually "good"? according to who?

>Stylus
Bitch nigga get on my level, I do it with fingers on my shitty iphone 4 screen.

Seriously tho, is not bad when you grasp it, hell, it even has one good advantage (the zoom tool is pretty damn useful and easy on a phone, you will rely on it a lot and may even get frustrated because it isn't the same in a desktop drawing tablet) the biggest con is that it may take you A LOT more finishing a piece.
That's not a problem to me tho, as I enjoy the experience of drawing itself, hours are not a big deal.

Also is harder to get into phone drawing. Not impossible, but definitely harder than tablets or traditional.

If you don't mind those problems, go for it.

IMO is worth trying cause is fun to draw in it, also there is no really an excuse since everyone has a phone these days and you are just a few taps away from a decent drawing app.
>>
>>2819134
I started drawing on it for awhile now and I really really love it. I prefer Artflow over Sketchbook but other than that I don't really know many other Apps.
My company gave me the phone (since I requested a better phone for quick technical support like rewriting NFC stuff without carrying my Laptop across the whole facility.) and I really fell in love with the stylus.

What is /ic/'s experience so far with it?

Heroes 2 succession wars Mod! Take a look at the pic, can you tell the difference between the originals and the fan made creatures?

Any opinions appreciated! There's a lot to be done yet... WHat do you think?

For those that don't know, it's basically a fan made mod for the Heroes 2 game. It's a strategy game with multiple creatures and armies. Most of the pixel art was made by the original company, the rest are fan made.
