Are brushes really that important in digital painting? So far I could do anything I wanted with just "Hard Round Pressure Opacity" brush (photoshop). When I tried to use other people's brushes, I couldn't understand them at all.
>>3113899
Hard round can do almost anything. If you want to go beyond that you can add in a soft round and maybe a chalk brush for some texture. That's all you really need. Of course if you want specific looks like fake oil brushstrokes you can use more but they're not really needed to make a good image. Artists like Craig Mullins use mostly the default brushes that come with photoshop. I've seen him use a chain brush to paint leaves, and I've seen Michael Komarck use a grass brush to paint clouds. You can use whatever.
You can do anything with the default brushes, but how kuch time do you want to spend doing it? They're just tools. Mostly made to save time and get a specific style/look without adding tiny details with a 1px hard brush.
i only use round brush, with varying opacity, flow, hardness. for some styles it works well with textured brushes, like simon stålenhag, but its not for me, use what feels best
can you draw just a nose in such a way that you can tell the owner's gender?
>>3113831
>>3113841
you can't have a mouth in it, that's cheating (i am confident that i am interpreting your image correctly i hope)
>>3113831
No, because noses literally don't have sexual dimorphism.
Hello /ic/! Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this, but it seemed like the best board. I'm artist and can post my work if it is necessary. I recently stumbled upon an article about some beautiful paintings, but accidently closed the tab and can't find it anywhere in my history. cant remember the time period, but i doubt this century.
paintings were similar in appearance to pic related tho pic related is an edited photograph. I remember the paintings having a dark look to them, late afternoon light with nature and some sort of figure as primary subjects
tldr finding paintings similar to pic related
Thank you in advance!
What's a good mobile app to use for "aesthetic" style photo editing?
picsart
>"aesthetic" style
a what?
Long story short
I'm a total beginner. I want to draw a comic book. So I go to an art school. And the first day they told me to draw the fucking comic already. And that I will get good by making more comics
How true is that? Because I really want it to be good. Should I study more or just jump in
>>3112682
I get you man. I've studied my basics for 2 years without doing much comic practice and guess what? I suck at making comics. You get good at what you do. Make like 1 comic page a week and study your fundamentals on the rest of the days
>>3112718
Post your work.
>I can draw because I can use reference for everything
that is like saying you know german because you have a german dictionary on your desk
>>3112480
If the German person you're trying to talk to understands you what's the problem?
How do you suppose one is to build a robust visual memory without first drawing numerous subjects from reference? Faggot. Go cry and shitpost. Maybe you can make edgy art out your tears and semen.
>>3112484
how do you just give bait a (You) like that
Thanks for the resources and the jump start to learning art but GODDAMN Y'ALL ARE DEPRESSING. I just wanna lurk and read people talking about art but all y'all wanna do is hate on people and HURR DUUR NMGI 420LOOMISFAGGET every other post.
See you lame asses later. It's just art. Have some fun.
Damn.

>>3110916
what is with /ic/ and i just can't seem to escape its twisted allure?
Fucking sick of whiners like you.
If you hate /ic/ fucking leave instead of crying about how mean everyone is.
Something created for a project in development.
>>3109331
It's edgy angst horse crap. Or rather, it appears to be.
You need to do some research before you blindly March people into one another cause some entity told you to hate one another.
>>3109331
hey man, you don't mind if I turn this in to an antifa poster do you?
>>3112151
i sincerely hope they do. fuck antifa.
It's not too late to go sfw, you know
Even now there is hope
You don't have to sully your talent giving virtual blowjobs to autists with your drawings
Come to the light side
>>3108537
You are a fool. You think yourself any less a whore? For all the purity of your art, you still sell yourself, just as we do. At least our prostitution wears an honest face.
>>3108543
Preach senpai.

But I am PROUD pedophile?

"old lady who got her first computer" style
Can you tell about your experiences there
>was it a good environment to learn
>is their method a good way to learn to draw
I am planning to go through the same regiment although on my own, because I can't pay for a school. Is it worth the time and dedication?
>>3112955
Speaking as a current student.
>was it a good environment to learn
It's a great environment full of people who show up because they want to show up and not because their parents want them to get a degree as an accountant or a lawyer.
The hours are far more conducive to developing both physical needs as well as mental ones - doing art work to the "classical standards" takes time and you need to come to terms with it. You get over the frustration through experience.
Teachers/Instructors are very knowledgeable and do lots of individual demonstrations and C&Cs.
>is their method a good way to learn to draw
It's a good method to learn to draw, learn to see, learn to correct yourself and a host of other things.
>I am planning to go through the same regiment although on my own, because I can't pay for a school. Is it worth the time and dedication?
You will find it hard to self-correct, and there's discipline and other issues involved especially if you work better in a setting that you associate only with doing work.
My honest advice would be to try to get a job, save up enough money for 2-3 years of atelier, and then show up and grind through it.
Failing that, see if you can forage enough money for one month of Watts Atelier ($199 i think?) or New Masters Academy ($99) and a 1TB hard drive, and just rip as many videos as you can.
There are also a lot of books that can guide you through doing things in the "classical" way. You can find some of these in the Art Books thread:

https://www.amazon.com/Cast-Drawing-Using-Sight-Size-Approach/dp/0980045401/
And so on and so forth.
Other than the lack of texture in the fabric how am I doing, especially balancing light and dark and generally how things are textured? What would you change?
Its a t-shirt design I'm trying to finish for my bf's band btw
is he supposed to be made of wood?
how do you deal with the crushing loneliness involved in creating art? no wonder Da Vinci cut off his own ear
>Da Vinci
>Cut off his own ear
Go to sleep anon
>>3112294
This. The only reason I check /ic/ anymore is to feel less lonely, which is fucking pathetic.
>>3112353
literally me. not my fault I was raised by an abusive single mom and bullied my entire life
IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
