What do you need to study for the entertainment business?

Once I leave my beginner or intermediate stages of fundamentals, I feel like creating work for the industry is my next step forward. I want to finally jump into the "please gimmie a job" phase and start creating professional work that relates to storyboarding, painting, and concept art for animation and film studios. People who do work like Ryan Lang is where I want to be.

To those who know or have experience in the field, where do I start putting my first foot forward in order to succeed? I'm already culturing myself in many animated films by reading up on their artbooks, the major artists' philosophies about creating works for the industries, and following in their footsteps. I feel like just "studying" and simply improving at artwork isn't going to give me a job at major studios, but maybe creating my own works inspired by films and other artists would.

Is there more to it than that, even? Does social media play a part here? Any videos you would consider helpful to this process?

Discuss.

Well of course social media and other things are necessary to get noticed, but you need to first have a body of work that is worth noticing.

If you want to be like Ryan Lang then you need to be a god at colour and lighting and materials, and know a lot about storytelling and composition. Don't just do studies, make some original pieces. It might be a good idea to write your own story or pick an existing one and then do a bunch of designs for it and create some keyframes and mood boards and things.
>>
Obviously the only way you're going to get in is with a project or projects of your own which would obviously showcase your experience on studying and such.
>>
>>2885386
>>2885391
So basically- making your own stories and projects so the businesses see them?

Is there a way to practice that and learn more technical stuff about visual storytelling in general? I.e., Making thumbnails and gesture in characters.

I don't get it...i really don't.
I have been trying to draw for years now, and no mater how much i practice or try and learn I can't for the fucking life of me learn anatomy. am i missing some secret technique? is there a special blood cult i have to join in order to draw roughly humanoid shapes?

has anyone else ever had this problem? if so can you please give me some tips on how you where able to overcome this?

If you're stuck with any concept in art, simplify it until it becomes managable. Have you been doing that?
>>
>>2887536
I've always struggled with anatomy. It's a major weak point.

>>2887545
>this

Simplify it by breaking it down.
>>
>>2887536
The secret is that drawing decent human figures is 90% perspective, form and proportions and maybe 10% anatomy at most.

Hi guys, I'm dealing with lack of ideas here. I have to make a poster to announce a series of talks. The main title of this talks is "Security and defense: Learn from the past to prepare the future". They are about privacy, ciberterrorism...
I tried several things but I started from scratch because I don't like it. I want to do some kind of photomanipulation with photoshop.
Advice and ideas would be really appreciated.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.
there. kick rocks.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun!

So I was thinking about art and stuff and wanted to put it down on the hobbies section of my resume. But then I started to think, "What is art?". So I googled the definition which said, "An expression of oneself, their imagination or emotion." However this entire time I've never taken time to draw what I want, or even try to express myself in anyway. I've only been "copying" other peoples works by either looking at it or sketching what I see off photos. This entire time I wasn't making art. I was never an artist to begin with. I'm just a dirty photocopier.
I'm sorry anons I've failed you all.

Eh, you should put it on your resumé anyway. You'll still come across as "artistic" to regular people, which if you're not a flake implies either good manual dexterity or creative problem-solving characteristics. Don't be surprised if somebody asks to see your work. Be ready to show them something that isn't porn though. That will never get you a job unless it's somehow arts or porn related.

Movie:Wall-e
PDI(potentially dangerous ideology):being granted access to unlimited resources and technologies will inevitably result in the declination of the evolution of the human race rendering us immobile and out of phase with realty

Okay so I wanted to try this out after watching a movie the other night and start up a game-like discussion thread where I'm given a movie and I have to come up with any potentially dangerous ideology being conveyed to any audience. Every movie can be made an open platform for further discussion if anything can be added and open, civil debate highly welcomed. Long live critical thought!!!

Not reality, evolution never stops. The likely resulting scenario is that the vast majority of the population will be obese and overweight, probably die. With a small amount, will be the guys that are bathing in ice cold lakes at 6 in the morning just to train their bodies.
>>
>>2886708
Thanks you for the response. What I meant to offer for the reader was a means of calling out the movie for trying to imply that what will become of humanity is inevitably the result in most human becoming obese and will therefore, like you said, continuously evolve to a point in which walking around will be made obsolete. I disagree with this being the most likely outcome though and I think I have reason to believe that with proper education and implementation of our means to create robots in order to serve labourous functions, for basic examples argument, such as running restaurants and even to regulate our own diets, the world might collectively be able to work for progress that would benefit all.

I think a better question to ask here would be why this ideology might hold some potential harm and I would argue that what this does is leave the audience accepting of not having to work for the progression of society and technology and to be willing to accept the our current fates as a potential best case scenario. I don't believe however that we are all equally educated and are even deprived of proper understanding of our current realities because it further helps large companies like McDonald's and even Disney for their consumers to mindlessly indulge without consideration of their own health, financial states or even being able to logically makes sense and understand the ideologies we hold.

I'd also like to point out that I believe this specific ideology of "fear the machine" has been being forced upon us in varies cases such as Terminator or IRobot. Maybe I'm too much of an optimist but I believe that a better world could be obtained but that our media and own unwillingness to learn might just be the perfect enemy.
