You could try an emulsion paint. Also did you prime the metal? What sort of acrylic paint? You used it too thickly? You did prime it first didn't you?

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.
there. kick rocks.

I really dig this style of art, just a fuck ton of detail and linework everywhere, he mostly draws characters standing in place in greyish voids tho, but I don't honestly think that's a problem in this case, what do you think tho?

Git gud by watching videos and tutorials? Is it possible? My idea is, ive got a job where I spend lots of time not doing anything basically, so if I watch tutorials, can I get better?

>>
>>2896618
no
>>
>>2896618
You should watch/read tutorials on stuff such as anatomy, but this in itself won't make you better. Practice is the way to improve.
>>
>>2896618
It helped me a lot as a beginner because I had no idea how to build up a drawing and what to look out for. You have to see someone do it, but make sure you watch established teachers. Watching random people drawing animu grills on Youtube will just teach you bad habits.

You have to put it into practice though, but definitely use the opportunities of the digital age and watch some guys like Watts, Vilppu and Huston approach a drawing.

So what you are saying is

If I draw everyday whatever shit, I will get good just because I draw?

If it's really that simple, why aren't there more good artists?

Drawing everyday is a good habit, but no, just drawing "whatever shit" won't neccessarily get you to get better or good.
>If it's really that simple, why aren't there more good artists?
1. It's not that simple for a lot of people. Or maybe simple in principle, but not easy.
2. There are a lot of good artists.

Why are there so many chinese artists trained in academic drawing?
17 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
The better question is to ask why we stopped....
>>
>>2896430
Because they are used to academic teaching in general. They're in school like 16 hours a day. It only makes sense that art is just another drop of water into the bucket to them.
>>
>>2896430
China never really embraced abstract/modern art as much as most of the West did, and culturally do not value individuality the same way so are more open to academic training than us. While we make our kids play with paint without instruction for fear of imposing upon them and stifling creativity, they make their kids copy casts in pencil and charcoal before even allowing them to touch paint.

They also have a pretty well established academic system in place, essentially the same as the Russian system held over from Soviet times. Communist countries tend to like realistic art for their propaganda posters and for fitting in with their understanding of the ideal, so support that type of training.

All that said, I think a lot of the digital artists you see out of China are basically self taught or were taught by other digital artists online. Some of them probably received a bit of traditional training in school prior, but it's not always the case.

What's your experience with PayPal? How safe is it?

I've been thinking about trying to sell some trash tier commissions but I've ever used PayPal for buying online with my real name and account. There are tutorials about making an invoice and such but what about all the other details?

Do I have to have my real name visible to the commissioner? Should I make a new "fake" account just for commissions? Can I store money I make on PayPal and use it to buy things (I cannot have any income on my bank account)? What if you deliver as agreed but the tumblr/deviantart kid is just feeling malicious or tries to scam their money back saying otherwise. There's been horror stories of people getting their funds frozen for barely any or no reason at all, then all that work would be lost. Can this be prevented by having the client agree to certain terms but how much credibility does that hold in the end?

Discuss everything about the non-art side of doing commissions.

>>2896327
P sure you can make a Paypal business acc or whatnot and put the name as your artist name. No one will have to see your real name.
>>
>>2896371
I think people can see your info even with invoice shenanigans when they look at transaction details after they pay. I never tested it, but that's what it looks like to me. You could give Paypal bogus info, but that will make support calls difficult.

Luckily the doxing is mutual, so it's usually not an issue.
>>
>>2896392
In a bussiness account you can choose what info you give to your clients and what not, I mean it's a bussiness account so it makes sense that it may not have a single person behind. Personally it has worked, people only know my artist name and some my fake name I use on everything but Paypal.

Art School thread.

It's that time of year /ic/. Everyone applying to schools is hearing back from them. Decisions are coming up.

What schools have you gotten into, and for what major/concentration?

The reason you end up at McDonald's is not because of the field, but because you don't learn the craft in 99% of the art schools. Go to an atelier instead or to a school that actually teaches you something besides political crap.

Wake up at 4pm and then stay up all night and all day till 9pm the next day

melatonin is ur friendo
>>
>>2895914
This is very doable, but you have to do it at least a few times in relatively rapid succession. Like twice a week maybe even three times if you're up for it.

Or alternatively you could just keep sleeping later and later and wrap back around to getting up on time :D

I am buying an iPad Pro I just wanted to know.

Procreate supports bluetooth connected keyboards for hotkeys.
my question is does it only support certain keyboards?

I want to use pic related device to just quickly access certain commands whilst out doors. thanks.

What is that thing?

It depends on if that thing shows up as a keyboard or as a game controller or as something else. If it looks like a generic keyboard than it could work, but it would be unlikely that those specific buttons are mapped to the same shortcut keys.

Also, because it is iOS remapping those inputs would likely be impossible.

its some small media controller for the ipad.

could you recommend me something small? i just dont want to carry around a big ass keyboard senpai

I had to look up what the shortcut keys are. It looks like you need a full keyboard given that you can't remap the key bindings.

Also, it would appear that the smart connector keyboards don't work, and only BT keyboards work...

Try to find the lightest keyboard? Also, a Apple Smart Keyboard costs the same as a Apple Smart Cover + Apple BT keyboard, so really you are better off buying a cover and any BT keyboard.

Hello /ic/ : when are you qualified/ready to teach art to complete beginners (to grown adults who want to git gud)?
1) What specific notion/concepts do you need to master in order to begin? Do all the fundamentals need to be mastered?
2) How do you approach basic teaching? Do you begin with simple anatomy, perspective, life drawing?

I'm kinda interested in sharing what I know about my hobby while making a bit of dough on the side...

When you're intermediate level.

Could you be a bit more specific? I think I vaguely know what you mean, but how would you define "intermediate level"?
>>
>>2895837
i dont think youre quite there yet, but honestly another year and you could. Thing is, there are a ton of bad teachers, as long as you are better than 50% of teachers you should think of applying.
