How do you stop sperging out every single fucking time your image starts to look good?
It's extremely rare that I like my own work, so when i end up doing something i actually like, i get way too fucking excited and can't work on the thing. How do i stop being so 'jumpy'? Is this even a thing that happens to other people?
3 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2898456
Take risks. What if I did this and made it even better? Then I mess up and the excitement is gone and I'm back to working.
>>
>>2898456
If it looks good because of something you did on purpose, you can always repeat it. If it looks good because of a fluke then you shouldn't be happy about that anyways, so just keep working and if it gets ruined it gets ruined. If you're working digital you can always make a new save file so nothing is permanently lost too.

I've worked for Blizzard, MtG, Games Workshop, and seen the world all thanks to my dual ligaments.

I've always wondered why some people struggle so much with drawing when it always came natural for me. Yes, I had to study the fundamentals like the rest, but it all "clicked" pretty fast. Much faster than other people I see struggling constantly.

It took about a year to go from beginner to full on pro. Started getting jobs about six months in. It takes other people years, and they still never do it. I'm not religious, but I am grateful to the universe for the extra control and coordination I've been gifted.

I encourage people without the dual ligaments to still do art, just not as a career. It's a great hobby! However, I can say with certainty that talent is real, and you're either born with it or you're not.

What am I doing wrong?

what does it mean if you have four on each (two doubles)

Have you trained yourself to harness the extra coordination the ligameme provides? There's an entire process to that.

Lets be serious guys and talk about our spines for a minute. I woke up at 9am today, aged 26, feeling mostly fine, no real medical problems. The moment I try to get out of bed I experience some intense pain in my back, and suddenly I cant get up at all, can't stand, can't even sit, it hurts to even lie down. I was completely paralyzed. It's most likely a herniated disk in my spine, a consequence of me sitting down at a desk for the vast majority of my life with poor posture. It's likely also genetic, my mom had the same thing but when she was in her late 50s.

After sleeping for another 6 hours and taking some medical grade Tylenol I feel much better but it still hurts when my back is in anything but perfect posture. Anyway this shit is never going away, it can only be treated with physical therapy and gets better over time. Watch your fucking back kids, literally. A fucked up back aint a joke and can happen really easily.

Do I really need to change my career if I want to save my back? I can't imagine life without sitting most of the day. What would you even do all day?

Has he gotten worse?

His personal work has always been tightly rendered static characters or portraits. It may seem a bit worse just because of the rising level of the industry and overexposure to this style of work and subject matter, but I think the level is the same as usual. His aesthetic has gradually shifted several times too over the years, and I guess a lot of people prefer some of his old looks but I can't hold that against him. He's gonna change it up again probably over time as well.

I still am waiting to see his Halo work and other client stuff as it's usually more interesting in my opinion.
>>
How long until he'll do an 180° and start with efficient brushwork like Sargent or Jaime Jones?
>>
>>2898362
He already can do crazy efficient brushwork as can be seen in his old sketches and his oil painting. He's obsessed with detail and rendering though so I don't see him switching for his finished work.

I'm basically all done with community college and am once again sitting with the decision to transfer to a four year. It seems pointless since I've heard mixed reviews about the university's art department in town and don't want to waste money on an education I can get locally for a fraction of the price.

I'm literally just getting a degree to wipe my ass through higher-paying jobs that can pay for supplies and bills. I don't want to be a scrub.

What about you guys? Any of you actually get a BA or what?

Before anyone posts that info graph of artist warning students to NOT pay for art school, I know son, I know.

Well, I don't want to really pursue studio of fine art, that's more of a hobby and something I admire other people doing. As it stands, I'm currently pursuing illustration, but I'm willing to settle on something along the lines of package/label design within the graphic design field.

My dream, if I had to settle on something not necessarily in my desired field, would be to work on shit like Besame Cosmetics, but that's very much a niche market.
>>
I'm in community college to transfer to the university, but I'm going to college for science. However, I started taking Drawing I this semester, and I'll take Drawing II next semester alongside 3 math classes.

They gave me a little crap for taking art classes with my degree, but I brought my work in to show them. They didn't argue after that. I'm not going to school for art as a degree, but I am taking art courses for my own purposes.

I have acquired the habit over the past few years of only drawing on one side of a page but I'm starting to think its a real waste.
Just wondering what everyone else thinks.

>>
I sketch on both sides 95% of the time becasue i like the pages to look nice and full, but if im preparing to draw something really nice i may skip a page so it wont rub against anything.
>>
Depends on the type of sketchbook. If it is like your picture then it is meant to be draw on every page.

If each page is an individual page that is perforated then I usually only draw on one side and try to make the sketches a bit prettier.

Also if I use marker or pen or paint I don't want to draw on the back.

I never know when i might want to frame something, or if the new pen i am trying will bleed thru, or if what I will want to draw on the second size is a follow of the first drawing, so i never draw on both sides of paper

I don't even used sketchbooks, buy some A4 paper and a pic related and you are good to go

Thoughts on The Natural Way to Draw from Kimon Nicolaïdes?

It used to be reccommended here a lot but recently I've heard people calling it a meme. I'm inclined to agree with them. It makes you heavily rely on having a model present pretty much 24/7 and it makes heavy use of stuff like blind contour drawing which I don't think is really all that beneficial. It may be better to just pick up a Hampton, Bridgman, or Loomis and incorporate w/e you learn from them when you draw from life/refs.
>>
>>2897737

Thanks. Your answer goes in the same direction of what I've read before (not here).
Should I start with Loomis? Like, if I really know nothing? Or should I start with Betty Edwards?

You're not too good for Loomis. Just study him. If he doesn't click for you then study someone else.
>>
>>2897703
Try Bridgman for anatomy my man. I just started but I feel like it's helping me more than Loomis. Everyone has their own personal learning style so try experimenting with instructors, it doesn't have to be strictly Loomis or Bridgman.
>>
>>2897703
You're never too good for Loomis. There's always more to learn each time. You could learn how he does composition in the book. You can learn how he writes. You can learn all of his habits. You can become Loomis.
