I tend to redraw the same things(anatomy studies, face studies, pose studies, form studies, a bit of character design here and there). I generally try to target things that i'm weak at. Like my anatomy isn't perfect and I still have a long way to go but in the back of my mind i think i comfort zone when i do it since I find i relaxing and enjoyable and also because i've done it so many times. I dunno.
When you're comfortable doing something, you're in your comfort zone. Going out of your comfort zone is doing something you're not comfortable doing. Being comfortable is being relaxed and enjoying yourself.
What is the purpose of this thread?
>>2971036
i think most stupid questions on /ic/ are ones that the op would know the answer to - they just need reassurance for whatever reason but then again i think thats a human thing
>>2971031
The comfort zone is where you tend to go when your brain is on auto-pilot. So try not to do that all the time.
just did this

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?
>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

How do I get popular?
Post a lot. Do you know anyone who posts a lot and isn't popular?
>>2967252
What do you mean by a lot? There are plenty of artists with fairly regular upload schedules who aren't very popular.

Leave what you got here. Imma post lots of my stuff that's never seen anything other than my own eyes
Dreaming in color.
And thinking of the Tigers, dreaming of the beast.
A self realization so vivid and burning.
Because you felt dead and you're painfully alive.
I wish you were different.
Past and future, collide into present. And worry is what you are.
A plane of normality. And a field of deadened noises and flattened flowers.
A black blade of grass, bending in the freezing cold wind.
Winters howl that screams, and winds its way through my mountains. And settles in the valley of shadows and monsters.
If rain could ever be felt like this.
The world would burn itself alive.
It seems to you I'm alone here.
A saddened boy. Someone left alone. And wandering my landscapes.
But I'm not alone here...
A shadow moves with me. And haunts me. And scares the living hell out of me.
A toothy consuming mouth that stretches over my life and bites down hard.
That wasnt there at birth. I gave breath to it.
I brought in the monstrosity. And birthed my rage, and violent tendencies into it.
And in some cruel twist, it steals my life. And breathes my breath. And sips on my sadness and brings a name to my lonely.
I sought shelter in his arms. And I thought the rain might stop. Rain was never from the skies. But more fell from his face.
And I drank deeply from his cup of sorrow.
I just want to leave. And take all this pain with me.
But I want to be sorry first.
I'm sorry you didn't love me. And that I was such a heavy weight to be burdened with.
Apologies could take all day. But of this I'm sorry most.
I couldn't love myself.

What do you think of this time lapse?

Will do more in higher frequency in the future.
Any Suggestions? Improvements?

I'm going to do alone and unfulfilled.
have you considered putting an anime girl in there it would spice up ppls interest
>>2973034
Well, a static anime girl or one which fits into the frame sequence of 30fps/10sec/*
Buit then again, why not just upload anime girls?
How much time should you invest into a piece before conceding that you overreached and should go back doing easier stuff?
Thorough research and studies have show that you should spend at least 43 minutes before conceding that you overreached and should go back doing easier stuff.
Source: My dad told me, and he works for the National Association of Arbitrary Opinions.
>>2971428
1. Never go for easier option
2. If you feel you are still learning after spending 50h on the piece and redoing it 2 times, go ahead and sink 20h more.
3. If you feel you are going nowhere/overrender the piece because it's easy after difficult stuff was done - tell yourself to stop, do other stuff, go back to the piece in next week/2/after doing other stuff.
4. Alternator also. You can spend 1 day on single piece, but next day do as much drawings as you can fast. Some fast sketchbooks without shadow mapping, some with, one or two with full shadows. Next day go back to piece you were doing.
>>2971428
Not much. Always start doing the face. If you don't like it, drop it. You'll save time
is Hindu calendar art kitsch?
>>2970980
I'd say so, it's very Lisa Frank. But at least they understand symmetry.
>>2970980
no, the calendar is kitsch, the religious art is iconography
>>2970980
Are Mexican prayer candles?
Is there any correlation between mental health and artistic skill?
Moderately fucked up: good for art
Actually fucked up: bad for art
>>2969825
higher autism == higher artistic skill
>>2969825
I noticed that you need to be a little bit stupid to be an artist. Perfectly if you are some happy, always positive peasant pleb that tries and tries without any hesitation and taking failure like it's normal to him.
So I've been wondering how inking for comic books was done before computers. Like specifically, was inking done over the original penciled pages? What if the inker had an accident and ruined the page? Can any of you guys explain this to me? Sorry I'm dumb
>how was inking done before computers
are you actually 14
>What is a lightbox
Enjoy your spoonfeeding OP, have a nice day.
depends on the epoch, creators and published but most inkers traced the original pencils and then inked but there was still plenty of people who inked over the pencils.
Is there any way to get rid of this "cartoony" look on drawings?
Whenever I try to start sketching I end up doing simple smooth lines and very cartoony characters even though it's not my intention and I cant get rid of this habit, it takes hours upon hours to eventually make somewhat "realistic" looking characters, and this process would only take mere one or two hours if I were to draw realistic base from the beginning.
Could the problem be within the tools I use? Too fat brush, pressure control opacity or something?
No, it's you. What the fuck is that question?
You're intentionally reverting back to your comfort zone because you don't want to do realism, I'm assuming. Just do it. It's not the tools, you could draw a realistic eye if you wanted, you just didn't want to.
