Assuming money is involved, who holds more "power/rights" the client or the artist?
18 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
power/rights in what sense
>>
The copyright holder is the one who does the work. Period. If someone hires you, they only gave you the money to create it; you're still the one who did it.

Unless of course you agreed to a contract saying you forfeit all rights to the work, which you should never do.
>>
>>3005619
Let's say that you have been contracted to make some game assets, or character designs to be used in a game and maybe sequels. Is it normal for the game dev to keep those rights, or the artist?

:)

2009:
I visited once then, went away immediately because the drawings were so good and I was intimidated.

2012-2013:
I peeped in again, people told me talent didn't matter so I actually started drawing.

It was a lot nicer and also superslow. Threads took a month to disappear. We actually didn't have mods. Had to message 4chan admins when a troll overtook the board. Yes, we were so slow that a single guy could dominate the whole board.

Wasn't overrun by porn either. Sorry to point this out, but porn fixation is a symptom of deeper issues. It's a coping mechanism just like overeating or drug abuse is.

Loomis, hate threads (back then hating on Algenpfleger and Dobson(?forgot his name, that comic artist)) and a vague interest in anime have always been here. Big guys visited occasionally, like Algenpfleger popped up in one of his hate threads, BeastySakura posted in the daily threads but was bullied away because she's a successful girl.

Trollchan and the d/ic/k guy were drawn. Lots of redlining. Encouragement and patience towards newbie. No belief in talent. A few meanies here and there, though, it was not perfect.

"How to Render" Scott Robertson >>3000383

password and user: howtorender

Most comprehensive resource out there about everything that matters really, although hard to get into. Very, very big list of pigments and (watercolor and gouache) paints that is still more or less actual:

https://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/water.html

Also where I linked >>3000383 , what I personally recommend:

David Hornung - "Color, 2nd edition: A Workshop for Artists and Designers"

It's IMHO very good resource that people should pick, mainly because it actually proposes EXERCISES that you can do, you are urged here to make your own color compositions and see what works and how colors interact with each other.

Gurney books are absolute garbage and a meme pushed by Gurney shills. Yes, they look pretty, yes, Gurney has skills, but he can't write for shit and teach people even if his life dependent on it. Also he is one of those fucks that monetizes everything and looks for every chance to get sweet, sweet dosh.

Fucking communist. He spent a lifetime learning his craft, why should he just toss it away for free?
It's hilarious that you feel so high and mighty while sharing stolen stuff.

I want to buy a Wacom Cintiq. What size would you suggest? 13, 22 or 27-inch?

The 13HD is the cheapest one, but it seems to be a bit too small. And how important is the touch functionality? Apparently I can save a few Dollars by buying a tablet without multi-touch.

>>
>>2997806
Depend on you, i never use the touch fuction so i just buy the normal 13inch one. 13inch is not small though, i don't even notice the size when drawing.
>>
22HD minimum. Though you might find comfort in the Pro 16. The 13HD is for hobbyists.
Touch is worthless.

Bigger is better.

What is the difference between red heads and brunettes color wise?

As far as I can tell through the photoshop color picking, red hair has slightly oranger hue and slightly more saturation, but red hair is just brighter. How does this work? Does red hair simply reflect more light?

different pigment
>>
>>3003675
I can see they are different colors, but I'm asking how they are different specially in their interaction with light.
>>
>>3003672
Different haircolours absorb different amounts of light (varying amount of melanin or whatever it's called), resulting in the colour you see.

It's outrageous how artists sell they art for such low prices. People like this destroy the business of art...
Example: http://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/christina-glaser-3838/artwork

>>
>>3003256
You determine your own prices as a fine artist. If you price high someone will eventually buy it if you can back the work up with either praise or skill. (Just gain some reviews, expose in galleries, etc)

My guess is that the person is either making am earning on the side or teaching art. And 120 is a fair price for her skill level.
>>
>>3003265
But still, most Artists sell they art for 30$(average price) on this side. The better quality pictures will never sell, because there are plently other artworks with lesser skillinput, but it fits want the costumer wants.
>>
>>3003276
don't cater to casual buyers then

How the hell do i paint like apterus? I just, i can never come close to figuring out how he paints. His work is just really identifiable, it's awesome.

>have taste

>know how to paint
>draw something

>paint over it

How much of creating high quality art is just holding yourself to a high standard?
I look through old concept artists and it seems like once they learned something, they just forced themselves to meet an uncomfortably high standard until doing their best became a habit throughout their work.

This is common sense for some but I say it to contrast the "hiding my power level" lazy approach to art where artists are content with never actually trying their hardest at anything, always working below their actual skill level. passing off sloppy, rushed, impatient, unfinished work as "style". It's a sort of lazy apathy I've been seeing a lot throughout the world lately.

I've only recently learned that there is a huge difference between the skill of an artist and the quality of the work. All these named artists people like so much are just always giving it their best effort, either deliberately or subconsciously.

It always seems like people have a high standard for their potential (which is admirable), but never for their own actual artwork. They look at /hr/ and say "it's not realistic enough", but when it's time to do something of their own they give up at the first sign of difficulty and beat themselves up over it. They study and study, but never apply that work ethic to their own creation. Why is that?

It seems like the perceived skill of the artist tied directly to the quality of the artwork. Hoping someone can share their thoughts on this.

I'll be bumping with art if this get's buried.

I've gotta find the route Ingres took with hands, I have a terrible problem with emulating his hands but making them look longer, flatter and thinner.
