How to achieve albrecht dürer like line art. Are there any books about it, tutorials etc.?

Literally only time and patience. Don't ink everything plane, only hatch values.

I mean, just look at the picture you posted, there's nothing hidden, no secret layer beyond or some special varnish or something. It's only lines (although almost perfect ones).

If it helps: This seems to be an engraving, so you best work in the medium of Dürer and engrave yourself. He also drew a lot with silverpoint.

I saved 200€ pocket money. What tablet should i get. A cheap xt star pen or huion? Or keep saving for a wacom .its gonna be my first tablet so wich one?

>First tablet
I'd recommend not a screen one.
>Wacom
Eh. You're just paying for the branding, the hardware itself isn't much better, if you don't mind charging your pen twice a year.
>Xp-pen / huion
I've had two tablets from them and it's been nothing but pleasure, but I can't speak for Xp-pen.
XP-pen star 06 and huion New 1060plus is what I'd be deciding between. Either of those should be a good choice.

Wacom tablets are GOOD, but aren't worth the price as a first tablet. XP-Pen I heard was good. I had the Huion H610 Pro which was good (albeit annoying drivers).

Should I use a raster or vector program for simple doodles?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Does it matter if you're just doing a simple doodle?

Next time use the question thread.
>>
>>3126678
Raster gives a more natural, pencil feel. It really is your preference though.
>>
Vector based Mischief is actually pretty nice for doodles.

Anyone here have/have had a mentor? If so what do you think of the experience? How did you get one? I think having someone to specifically focus on you and push you would be good, but right now I'm just surrounded by people who like my art unconditionally (family, friends, etc.). At the same time, getting critique from random strangers doesn't seem to do it right, either.

I had /ic/, now i have crippling depression.
>>
I had similar thoughts last night.

The only "mentoring experience" I had was the chance to go to an atelier for a while but it's mostly boring figure drawing sessions with a live model for 4 hours straight. I also did still life for a bit more than one year more than that. As we had around 4-5 people in the same room the teacher is going to give you a feed back every 1 hour... like "here" is wrong, or "fix" this. Only did pencil/charcoal though. Dunno what kind of mentor you're going for. Personally I learned more on my own and using external resources but having someone you can talk to about these regularly is psychologically healthier.

But instead of ''mentor'' specifically, I think that art buddies will work as well; of similar level while having personalities that mesh well. I had one in my early days and it encouraged me a lot. I tried /ic/'s many discords but they're not my type of people, hey.

Maybe you're sick of the shithole that is /ic/'s toxicity? There are other forums/communities to try for; such as ConceptArt and LevelUp. Or reddit even.

Anyway, what do you think? I think that going for the hunt of an art friend is the best option desu.
>>
>>3126713
I had depressions for years before coming to /ic/. Luckily, it did not enforce it but actually lessened it.

>>3126716
Forgot to add that I met my "friend" when I was young at an interactive drawing board. We actually met someone higher in skills and after some begging that artist actually tutored us for 3 hours. Best day ever.

Though with my current personality right now, I don't think that I'm able to make friends anymore.

this is interesting. i would have preferred if the flowers were a bit "grown" into the crystals but..yeah, kinda cool actually.

When i was studying visual communication, i constantly had to explain what i was doing and why. I really hated that and mostly bullshitted my way through this.
There were people in my class who actually mastered this art and got remarkably better grades than they would have, just because they were good in selling it.

Bottom line is, it probably doesn't have to make too much sense, just make it sound fancy.

What should I use for drawing /ic/ ?
A tablet or a laptop like pic related ?

Are you a cute 4'9" rori? I will buy you a tablet if you are.
>>
>>3126538
You mean a display tablet or a pen tablet?
Depends on your budget, but I'd recommend a pen tablet for starters. Huion has some good ones.

As for the display itself, you can get a laptop with a VGA port and attach an external monitor to it, that's what I do and it's pretty comfy.

Thinkpad T series have some older reliable laptops at laughable prices.

Sometimes we'll have guest teachers who'll come in and give lectures. Usually these are retired industry professionals, like Disney animators, with a successful career behind them.

Is it worth sharing your work with them in hopes of making some kind of connection in the industry? Or are they sick of shitty art students sharing their work with them? Would they still have some kind of foot in the industry despite being retired?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Most of the time they won't have much connections left with the industry but it's still a good thing to put on your resume that u were best buddies with the guy that animated X famous thing..

As for whether they're bored of students showing their works or not that entirely depends on the person.
>>
>>3126413

If they are coming to your fucking ART SCHOOL then why the hell is this even a question. imo ask if they could take a look at your work and give you feedback. That way you don't come off as a value leech.
>>
If they're successful like you say, do you not think they had to hustle to get where they were? I'm sure they would respect you enough to help if you tell them straight up that you're trying to make you're way into the industry.

Opportunity finds those who make the effort.

any tips for beating sameface?
things i know:
change the brow shape (most important one)
change the nose
change the cheekbones
add rythym lines to define the form of the face
it still looks kind of samey though. anything im missing?
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Jaw line ?
Eye shape ?
Hair line ?

Eye shape is probably the most important out of these. Changing the brow is good but if all your characters have, say, the same bead shaped eyes, they will look the same.

im not good enough to do eye shape yet, there is a lot of nuance in changing them yet having them still be human and sensible.

I recently took it upon myself to finally learn japanese. I memorized hiragana in a three days and working on katakana.

I didn't expect this at all, but I think I am onto why Japanese manga artists draw the way they do and why japanese love reading manga.

In any given character in hiragana, the stroke order is important of course, but I think whats more important is the proportional balance of the curves and lines and the subtle lifts, all within a small square. And Manga is like that too, a series of squares and rectangles, with loosely drawn people fitted inside pleasingly. One can argue that its more from film influence when it coems to certain compositions, but I think you can make an equally strong argument that its all in their language system.

Sorry, I'm caffeinated. I'm wondering if japanese will help one git gud at art. Grasping at straws.

American dude in Japan here. Know a lot of Japanese. You are grasping. Certainly Japanese has a unique visual power because the different writing systems can and do convey ideas in a visual sense as well as a literal sense as letters. But no your theory is bunk and learning Japanese will not make you better at drawing lewd Burmese Etch A Sketch girls.
>>
>>3126182

funny story, every day in school years ago (high school) I would take out my nintendo DS every lunch break, open up pictochat, and open the jap keyboard. I would then close my eyes and begin flinging the kana on the writing space and then open my eyes and write out each kana sound. I remember it being a bitch to learn but I finally was able to read it as fast as English alphabet.

Anyway...no that is stupid. The Japanese probably hate our alphabet and think it's even more complex. Just look at "l" and I" they both look the same just like ソン to gaijins. Kanji is easier than kana because they look like pictographs (most of them anyway).
>>
Learning japanese will get you good at japanese.

Then if you want to put japanese in your art it will make you better at your art.

Why not ?

It would be great if someone would be willing to critique some of my sketches. Most of them are just in black and white bc I still don't jump into color theory. Also most of them are traditional cuz my pc is broken rn :'(

Answer my question u fgts
>>
For every angle ? U need every angle.

If you're using a picture as a reference just do front, back and sideway views.

If you're doing research for that character, you need to draw them with different postures/expressions reflecting their personality.
>>
Google "character sheet"

Most you need is front, side, back and 3/4.
