t??????????????????
lmao this thread again
>>3006057
yeah lol cant get an true answer lol
Holy fuck someone is actually paying Shadman $400 a month for a single pinup of his.
What the fuck is your excuse?
>>3007896
Hi Shadman. Creating and bumping your own threads huh?
>>3007893
Obligatory Shadman thread. I'm as bad as you for replying to this.
Anyway, I haven't been putting out work on a consistent and near-daily basis for remotely as long - Shadmans been active for what, 8 or so years now?
I've been going into periods of inactivity that can last months, you don't build an audience like that.
What would you say the go-to is on engaging with an audience, /ic/? I've noticed on some websites, you'll follow or watch someone and they'll go and personally talk with you and thank you for following them. I've always been afraid to do that, afraid it'll come across as overbearing or unwanted.

Self-respect
I'm looking for a manga that was posted about a year ago, a biography about the female artists life and how she learned classical art from her sensei.
The easiest way to remember is "just draw"
KAKUKAKU SHIKAJIKA
>>3007735
That was quick
>>3007737
I'm pretty sure reading that manga is a requirement to post on /ic/.
hey guys what do u think???
I think it belongs in the /beg/ thread with a proper resolution image
>>3007175
I second this
>>3007166
Use reference properly. Also sage, stop shitting on artists you twat.
is it a good way to practice digital painting by painting over a digital painting, and try to replicate it as close as possible?
>tracing
no.
What do you even mean?
Painting over to replicate it as close as possible? Literally step 1: don't change anything.
If you traced some linework and then tried to render it as close as possible, sure, it's good rendering practice. It won't teach you to draw, but it will help teach you to paint.
>>3006615
I don't paint OVER other stuff, but trying to replicate certain techniques has helped me with color choice/application immensely. Just don't let it become a crutch, use it to learn from another artist's style.
In the age of google images, you can find anything you want with just a click, drawing from imagination is a complete waste of time.
Want to draw cool poses? Use reference
Want to draw cool outfits? Use reference
Want to draw a dick? Use reference
Now i'm not saying that you should copy a photo 1:1. Obviously if you're a weaboo or a westaboo you'd want to exaggerate the reference to fit your style.
Sycra makes an excellent tutorial on this topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30BOsR_tzYA
What happens when you draw from imagination is that you end up like this faggot here who hasn't made any progress in the last 3 years: https://xnosebro.tumblr.com/
>b-but the old masters drew from imagination
The old masters drew from imagination out of necessity because they didn't have access to reference images the same way we do
>b-but KJG draws from imagination and look how good he is
KJG has photographic memory. In his case, whether he drew from imagination or reference wouldn't make a difference. Most of you faggots don't have photographic memory and when you avoid using reference the quality of your work simply deteriorates. Being able to draw the same animu head in 3 different positions isn't impressive(see nosebro)
TLDR: Imagination is a meme, use reference.
>The old masters drew from imagination
Where'd you get that idea from? I'm pretty sure most of them had models.
Then why draw? why not just take a picture or take one from google
All youre doing is making an inferior version of something that already exists in real life
>>2997017
Exactly, why even draw?
So what did you do last month, /ic/? How tall is that stack of paper and canvases?
>>3007556
stop drawing all those pussies you twat
>>3007563
How is that a pussy, anon? Do you have a dirty mind?
I was working in a studio. Everything is digital. my sketchbooks are rather empty these days.
Rate my shit up, /ic/
i always hated toriyama's artstyle
Aside from the bad anatomy, you should at least clean up your lines. I mean come on. Your entire work is based on the lines. You didn't even shade it. If you're going to write your signature on something, don't let it be chicken scratch.
>>3006638
The sad part is, is that garbage like this gets you tons of followers and likes on IG.
I want to make a comic, but i heard from youtubers like lavender town to use simpler art styles to get it done faster.
I made some cartoony sketches but i was hoping that you guys can give me more ideas for cartoony art work.
any ideas for reference?
>>3000354
Thinking you have to use a simple style just to draw comics just because it's faster is stupid. If you want to draw in a cartoony style, draw it because you like the style, not to let yourself be lazier.
Why learn to draw when all you need are bubble headed gender ambiguous stick figures that bring your point across. So relatable!
are you fucking 13? you heard from youtubers? if you had any critical thinking you could reason out the retardation of what you just asked. kill yourself
when im painting a shadow say of a warm orange should i mix together cool orange and add its compliment (cool purple) or mix the warm orange with the cool purple or with warm purple
>>3007733
I don't quite understand what you're trying to do here. Could you post an example?
>>3007788
im painting a shadow of something from imagination that is cadmium orange plus medium yellow
How can I improve my line art?
>>3007111
Idk your drawing looks really good
>>3007111
what do you mean by that, it already looks good.
>>3007111
You improve your hand-eye coordination, check out for exercises and sports that improve it, hit the gym, get steady hands.
You also do the Peter Han/drawabox/Scott Robertson exercises - draw with pen straight parallel lines, try crossing few straight lines in one point, mark two points and draw straight line through it, mark 3 points and draw parabola through it...
Eventually do those lines longer, vary spacing, like closing the lines and then drawin them in bigger and bigger spacings while keeping it consistent...
Really, there's quite a lot of stuff you can do to get steady hands.
Oh and I hope you already know to draw from shoulder/elbow?
Stop drawing anime.
>>3004710
make me
>>3004710
Are these threads portable yet?
agree
Do you listen to music while you draw/paint/shit on canvases?
Do you believe that listening to certain music makes you draw a certain way?
Personally "Demon days" by Gorillaz makes me draw more haggard and demented figures while "Time" by ELO helps me with more upbeat and fanatical things

I loved film scores on vinyl, especially from the silent era with the old pit piano music. Maurice Jarre, Bernard Herrmann... Herrmann will always put me in a Hitchcock mood. David Bowie's LOW is probably closest to being my artistic mood ring.
>>3003881
drawing to music always gets me a bit too pumped. in the end I look at the finished piece and it promptly becomes the next kindling for my oven
Mad beats, son.
trying to make an underwater scene can i get some advice and critiques on this.
underwater is like outer space except with blue ambient light and caustics
>>3007365
You're gonna need a better grid
/ic/ this is a simple and stupid question, but how do i make money with illustration?
Where do you search for jobs? Where do you upload your portfolio?
Any secrets and tips? I have a really hard time finding freelance jobs that pay my rent and i need food.
>>3007491
Upwork, reddit.com/r/hungryartists, LinkedIn, personal social network.
>>3007493
thank. i check out upwork and reddit. I have a LinkedIn profile but never cared about it. Is it actually useful?
>>3007528
It's just a different strategy, I use it for long-term position job applications & for cold calling. Got long-term clients out of it, but you don't sound like the proactive type, so it might not be your thing.
