FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The original developer of the site has taken a leave for quite a while, originally due to medical reasons. Progress on the site is almost non-existant at this point. You can try contacting him at @LavaFlake or emailing him at [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>Your streak will go back to 0 and you will have to start again. No other penalties.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>There is no week system anymore, instead new users are given "streaks" based on the number of consecutive days you can submit without getting eliminated. (token losses do not reset your streak)

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.
there. kick rocks.

Every time I start a comic, I end up deleting it after drawing the first page. The most I've done was a 6 page comic before deleting everything because of how bad I felt the art was. I dunno, I can't bring myself to enjoy comics like other creators on tapastic or linewebtoons. How do I overcome this? I also do tons of studies on the site, I guess my eye level is just way harder than my skill level

Don't worry about your first page. If it's bad, then you'll inspire others to get better when you're drawing the next one. You'll improve faster when you do projects because your studies are more focused.

Man I have to say I really love your color choice here, it's almost like you've spent several hours on it, getting all those hue variations in, all those little hooks and nooks. Also the face and the general expression of this piece is just great. It truly is magnificent! Oh and ofcourse that lovely perspective!

I think this deserves a 9/10, because his shoelaces are about to touch the ground.

Any tips for emulating the style of this Baby Driver poster? I'm new and my eye is shit, so I have trouble identifying core characteristics, and I'm a designer, not an artist, so tracing/paintovers are fine with me.

To be honest there's not really an easy way to do it. Unless you can paint at that level you won't get the same look and quality, even if you paint over it. It's basically just very skillfully done and probably no on /ic/ is able to produce anything near that level.
>>
>>3031740
While that probably is hand-drawn, with that amount of detail and faithfulness to the photography, you could probably get very close just with an intelligent use of filters and layers over photos/movie stills, at least close enough that normies couldn't tell the difference lol

/ic/ jerks off Repin regularly to demonstrate how drawing from imagination is the holy grail, but the red pill is that his historic paintings were worked primarily from models he hired and sketches of people that he assembled into a composition. The bulk of his work is portraiture.

Construction can't teach you good taste, like the kind that Repin had.

Don't skimp on your life drawing classes.

But I'm better than repin and can do all that stuff from imagination. Not that he wasn't skilled, I just had more resources and as a result I was able to figure out stuff he couldn't.

Acrylics, color pencils, gouache, watercolors, etc. I'd like something easy enough to paint "fast", but also detailed and rich in color, like pic related.

Good evening. I recently saw a photo (drawing?) my parents had in their home when I was a child. I thought about it often. Then suddenly i found it in the background while watching an episode of "Friends".

I humbly ask, If anyone knows the artist or what series it is from, it would be massively appreciated.

Many thanks in advance, and sorry for the edited photo, my photoshop skills are poor.

what's the fastest way to learn to draw manga?
31 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
By drawing manga.
>>
use all your time to learn how to draw.
>>
>>3029874

>>3029880
This is really the answer.

The manga part is just style.

Learn perspective, it's the most important thing for you to learn.

Learn what makes something appealing, that's the most important thing to being successful. (So in a comic, when and where to use thick and thin lines, curves vs. straights, details vs. space.) AND COMPOSITION - comic panels need composition.

And third most important, yes third, last place importance, despite what anyone tells you - is learn your subject matter. So learn to draw people. Learn to draw things.

But don't let NOT KNOWING this stop you from drawing manga. Use references for what you don't know how to draw, and study on the SIDE.

Don't get trapped in endless study. Manga requires you to learn extra stuff besides drawing, like story telling through pictures.

For every drawing you make in an anime style, learn how to draw the real thing too.

Or you won't be able to draw nearly as well, it could also help you develop your own style.

By drawing real things, you'll get a true understanding of form that you won't get if you just practice drawing from other artwork.

So after reading a bunch of literature on color I've realized how weird the standard color wheel with a square or a triangle for every hue. Is there any good color wheels based around the Munsell system where each hue has a different shape as they have different maximum levels of saturation at each value. Right now I'm using Coolorus2 and the more I learn the more squashed the colorwheel/picker seems.
39 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
What if we made a colour sphere. An extra dimension for saturation.
Or could also maybe add a slider that raises and lowers the saturation of the whole wheel. Basically adding a time dimension.
>>
>>3027199
Yeah that is how I feel the standard triangle/square is designed like.
>>
>>3027191
do you really need it, can't you just see the colors?

Let's play a game. I post a piece of artwork and you tell me what I need to do to improve it. If I get enough of the same advice, I will try my best to do exactly what you said.

This is actually serious though, so if you tell me to add bigger boobs, I won't do it. Tell me specific fixes like 'the eye is off, use guidelines and make it more symmetrical. The cheek doesn't look right, use a reference and draw a cheek from that. The eye could use some highlights. This drawing has no contrast, could you make something darker?

One little fix at a time is easier for me to do exactly what you say - we will fix a really crappy drawing until it's actually GOOD. Through your feedback and votes!

It will be like all of you are drawing a single drawing together, through my hand.

I think this could be really cool! Let's see how well we can make an amateur drawing be with our mental powers combined.

I will start the drawing /intentionally/ worse than I can actually draw so that this is more like a game, and so that the end result will be more amazing.

I really need advice
I go to an art school and am studying fashion design

I'm going my prerequisites and finished Drawing 1 and just started Drawing 2
Today we had one of our first assignments and had to do a ton of gesture drawings of a still life that was a folding chair with a bunch of random objects next to it, like some strangely shaped vases, a watering can, and a sphere

Every time my drawings came out extremely disproportionate
And my drawings are always disproportionate
And I always hit a point in drawing where I feel like I don't know what to add or do next

I feel like my brain can't properly process and render what I need to put on paper and proportions
I'm worried I won't be able to draw properly ever and that I should drop out and pursue another career because I know i'll fail a drawing class eventually and not be able to pursue my major

Has anyone else had this problem?
Am I really unable to understand proportions?
Do I just need a shit ton of practice?
Please help i'm losing my mind and freaking out worrying about wasting my time at this school

Hi /ic/, new here and starting to get into drawing but I can't draw for shit. I wanna draw clothing, people/figures in clothing inc. fashion illustrations and such but I don't know any good resources that touch on these and teach these.

Do any of you guys have any advice on how to go about this or any links to resources?

If you want picture examples of the various types of styles I wanna try I'll drop some if asked. Thanks in advance
