I hope you're underaged because I would feel sorry for you if you were still taking algebra 1 as a senior/college student
>>
>>3130250

Not OP but I was in an all black high school and nobody could ever learn in algebra class. Each day consisted of making fun of the filipino man's accent, to dancing in class, to getting into verbal fights with said teacher etc. Any time we had a test it was like it didn't matter. We'd get our grades back and the teacher would just move on like nothing happened. Not everyone had a nice high school like you.

im in hong kong and my pc's back at home so i cant give u the exact terms, but try going to your tablet settings and tweaking around. There should be a bar that lets you adjust the sensitivity to pressure. Just keep digging anon. godspeed.
>>
>>3129950
Problem you're seeing is called shoelacing. Try deleting your wacom preferences. Uninstalling and deleting the old driver. Restart. Download and install wacom driver 6.36-3. Restart. If that doesn't fix it try again. If not still there's some blog post somewhere that outlines a few tweaks that could be the issue.

is it possible to learn to draw just by looking at a lot of things and remembering them?
9 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
No, you got to draw.
>>
>>3129921
looking is like half of learning how to draw, if you realize how strange it is to expect your mind to know how to reproduce an image in the real world. that is where drawing practise comes in.
>>
>>3129921
Is it possible to learn how to play golf by looking at it?

You'll learn a lot, because of mirror neurons, but you'll have to try it to really learn. Your mind doesn't correspond exactly to reality, so your body needs to experience the difference. Like hitting a golf ball, you can imagine doing it and you'll learn a lot, but when you actually do it, you'll realize small differences like you didn't realize you'd have to stretch your arms that far back, or twist your body a few degrees more than what you imagined etc.. to get a good strike.

I want to draw like pic rel. What am I supposed to learn EXACTLY?

>inb4 values and edges

Sure but everyone learns that and yet can't produce the same results.
29 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
When it comes to values you have to unlearn pretty shading at first. Do some studies from the atelier nerds and figure out that way they block them in, because what you'll need to first grasp is grouping them in a presentable and concise way.

Squint a lot at your references at first. You'll notice how big chunks of them stand out and the rest blend. You want to try to make sense of that, it's key.

Once you understand the way values are grouped, start experimenting with where they fall almost - but not quite - seamlessly into each other. That's where you can "lose" your edges. Where one sharply jumps into another is the "found" or hard edges.

Big shapes are still going to need to pop, so be sure that any "leading" edge into a shape retains enough sharpness to catch the eye.
>>
>>3129880
well first of all, not do what this guy said >>3129890
second of all, we cant help you
third everyone learns differently and you absorb knowledge differently, so what can i suggest? know your quirks and find a solution, the solution is not an answer youll find one the web, its an answer youll find with time.

and four, your work isnt going to improve or magically get better if anyone suggests you any kind of course or book, it just doesnt work that way with art at all, you have 2 simple options, you draw or you dont. the rest is time. and if youre in a hurry, well then. no one can help you
>>
>>3129962
why is his advice bad? it looks standard to me... and that's how all artists are taught to block in values!

I keep seeing people say
>Do Grind Loomis
>breh grind loomis
>NEEDS LOOMIS".

So I have the book now.

But like how am I supposed to "do" the book? There are pages of diagrams and Loomis doesn't say if your supposed to copy them or not and stuff. Its more like a series of diagrams than instructions.
Pic related, doesn't tell you to copy the diagram or not or how many times you should.
5 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Loomis tells you to copy everything in the beginning of the book.
>>
do we seriously have to explain studying to you?
do you think loomis is gonna jump out of the book and stab you if you dont exactly do as he tells you to? do you know how to act like an independent adult human being? look at the drawings. try to take them apart. try to understand how loomis got to his finished drawing. christ man its not hard. just use your god damn eyes and brain for once. are you gonna ask the autists on this board how to wipe your ass next?
>>
The way to do Loomis, Hampton, and Bridgman is to draw copies of all their diagrams. Seriously all of them. Then do a bunch of studies from photo and live models. Do some figures from imagination. Then repeat.

The books give you a stronger grasp of what you're seeing in the form itself. Your practice your functional knowledge gained, then you go back for more from the top.

Skipping any step in this will result in knowledge you don't even realize you're missing. Do it right and you'll feel things click.

Animation is the hardest skill to obtain. Sequential art comes in at a somewhat distant second, but definitely in front of all the other stuff like illustration, fine art, concept art etc. If you don't see why that is you're either really stupid or a very uncreative troll.

First off sorry if its a frequent subject as I do not come to /ic/ often, I normally am over on /fit/. I used to draw a lot back in high school, I ended up with an Ipad pro to help with D&D pdfs, and got an apple pencil. It has been great for sketching, and with a renewed intrest in art I decided to buy a Huion, not a screen one but a pad. Maybe I haven't given it a long enough chance, but I far better like working on my Ipad so far.

The question is does anyone else work on an Ipad pro? It supports a4 and 300dpi in procreate, but since I wasn't too happy with the Huion, I'm considering springing for a Wacom cintiq when the money is right.... but I don't want to also be let down with that vs my Ipad pro.

I am not a master artist or anything but I will try to add some pictures below. This first was a quick work from reference after I saw Todd Mcfarland's last night.

I did this not even in procreate, but in the generic apple notepad app, with the colored pencil tool. I was trying to experiment shading with reds and blues.

Okay, this is my first time posting in /ic/ since I have only gotten feedback from friends who I assume were pretty biased. I have a few paintings I'd like to post and get feedback. Good, bad, helpful advice anything. I am also looking for a simple "Yes, this piece is good" and/or "No, this piece is shit". Anyway, whatever tips to improve my painting or sketches would be great. I'll start with the first piece I did. I don't have a terrible amount so it's not TM;DL (Too Many Didn't Look).

Is tracing ok?

How can you tell an artist traced something instead of drawing from reference? Pic maybe related

>>
Tracing is fine; the end goal is the result not the process.

However, artists with a trained eye can see traced work and will judge you critically on this.

I have seen artists on /ic/ calling others out on tracing. I always wondered how they do that.

Are you an artist with a trained eye?
>>
>>3129705
Some signs:

1. Pose might look a bit stiff
2. Quality of artist's body of work may be inconsistent between pieces
3. Wonky anatomy especially if they traced from a photo that has strong foreshortening or distortion
4. If the artist has a usually cartoony style, realistic proportions from tracing are more apparent
