>Listens to perspective lectures
>I can't go on more than 30 min before getting extremely bored
>30 min feels like 4 hours
>Drawing figures, anatomy, anime
>4 hours feel like 30 min
I usually try to learn perspective through composition studies :) way more entertaining and practical for my needs.
also no need to take everything in at once,
ten minutes of focused lecture time + hours of practice is way better than just looking at tutorials all day
Good luck!
>>3057923
True, I start by watching 1 lecture( there are 12 lectures in total that are about 30 min) before doing photo studies. It's just that watching the lectures is sooooooooooooooooo fucking boring.

ngmi
So /ic/, I've been wondering - how much time do you spend on a single drawing? I always feel like I should be faster, and I'm curious.
Pics+time spent would be greatly appreciated.
>>3058536
spent 3 hours on this. it's done for me, but the head would have taken another hour.
>>3058556
How do I get as good as you?
>>3058536
on a sketch like no more than 5 to 10 minutes, on a finished thing it just depends on how finished i want it . i always feel like i take too long on finished stuff to. but think about how the old masters would spend possibly hundreds of hours on one painting.
The Anatomy book I'm reading (and a few artist on YouTube I'm subscribed to) keep stressing the importance of this step. It's not that I'm lazy and don't want to do it, it just takes griding and I've always hated that. I will gladly do it if it's a necessity, BUT I've also seen artist not go with this method and still draw accurate human proportions. I'm just wondering if any of you went with this particular method or if there was another way.
>>3058486
It's just a rule of thumb to remember proportions. Once you've memorized it you won't need to draw a grid every single time you draw a figure. By the way, I think this would've been better suited to the question thread rather than making an entire thread. Try asking there next time.
>>3058493
Thanks and yeah, I'll ask there next time.
>>3058493
This. Also you don't even need to grid it out to check it, you can just draw a person in any position, check for proportion consistency, and unless the perspective's at an extreme angle or you use severe foreshortening you should be able to do that without any grids. Over time it'll come naturally too, just keep studying real people and checking and you'll train yourself into it.
>The singing lesson had made the amateurs, but not the professionals, happy. The reason for the difference lay in how the two groups had approached the lesson. For the amateurs it was a time to express themselves, to sing away their cares, and to feel the pure joy of singing. For the professionals, the lesson was a time to concentrate on such things as vocal
technique and breath control in an effort to improve their singing. There was focus but no joy
So can we finally agree that drawing is not fun at all if you intend to improve at it?
PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP PATTI
JUST SHUT UP
>he doesn't find joy in self improvement
>he doesn't find satisfaction in setting goals and meeting them
>he doesn't set time aside from focused study for personal projects and casual drawing
>he doesn't find achieving focus and flow a cathartic and pleasant experience
It's a different breed of fun to the casual approach, but also more satisfying. I have more 'fun' playing videogames, but it's a fleeting and empty pleasure. I feel more satisfaction and lasting joy by drawing and cultivating a skill, and having the capacity to create things that excite me.
>>3057078
The problem Is that many people who draw just aren't what I'd call real artists. They're technicians. They saw a drawing felt envy, greed, jealousy or what have you, and then went about learning how to do it.
I could draw anything I want, pretty much outright, because I have a "feel" for it. Call me an idiot savant or whatever, but I just do the things that others seem to struggle with for years. And I don't understand how any of it couldn't be fun, honestly
On occasion when I do have to learn something new because I can't get my head around it yet, I feel excited to be trying something new, and I feel joy and more excitement when I accomplish it.
If you at the very least don't feel the way I do when you draw or learn how, then you simply are not an artist.
have you planned working at MC'Donalds and living with your parents yet? or have you just accepted you will die young already?
>>3055649
i've been living with my parents for a long time. i finally have customers. i have a style that people like. i have plans. i have commissions. all it takes is time. and i lucked out by being born with a support net.
also dying young is corny af these days.
>>3055649
>why artists are poor
those who are poor are not real artists

what app is that? it looks interesting to use. As of now I basically just have a notepad to write down what I need to do and go through the day doing it if I can. A little more organization is in order

>three hours sleep
>the day before is rated one star
take care of yourself anon :'(
>Typical artisan... big promises, but all talk.
>What?
>Jump-start the creativity? What a load of bullshit! All you care about is lining your own pockets. That, and your follower counts. You've got no principles, just like all the rest. If Art has gone to shit, you're just another maggot crawling in the pile.
>All right, the truth then. You're right about one thing... I do need capital. And watchers. Wanna know why? I have a dream. That one day, every artist in this nation will be able to hold to their OWN vision. A land of the TRULY free, dammit. A nation of IMAGINATION, not market research. Ruled by PASSION, not target groups. Where the trend changes to suit the individual, not the other way around. Where judgement and choice are back where they belong: in the hands of the creators! Where every man is free to imagine -- to create -- for himself! Fuck all these limp-dick porn hacks and chicken-shit industry draughthorses. Fuck this 24/7 internet spew of kitsch and mass-produced bullshit. Fuck race for productivity. Fuck the industry. Fuck all of it! Art is diseased. Rotten to the core. There's no saving it -- we need to pull it out by the roots. Wipe the canvas clean. BURN IT DOWN. And from the ashes a new artist kind will be born. Evolved, but untamed! The talentless will be purged and the greatest will thrive -- free to create as they see fit, they'll make Art great again!
>What the hell are you talking about...
>You still don't get it. I'm using art as a business to get elected... so I can end art as a business. In my new world, artists will create and destroy for what they BELIEVE! Not for money. Not for portfolio! Not for what they're told sells now. Every man will be free to follow his own visions! So... What do you think?
How...... the hell do you get reposted?
>>3048601
Well, I don't handle my own public relations.
this is the kind of shitposting I like
Tear this apart my fellow Anons
>>3059336
Hi OP, it's Anon. Please post in the /beg/ thread rather than creating a new thread for your pictures (also you have more chances to have critiques this way):
>>3058734
In case you're new to /ic/, the Questions&Answers thread is a must-read for all newcomers, contains links to the Sticky, ressources, etc. and probably the answers to half of your questions:
>>3056706
For future posts, please remember to rotate your picture. Hope you'll enjoy your stay and remember to have fun!
OP here, Noted, thank you
Pic belongs to me
Anyway, I've been drawing seriously for the past 2 years and recently i've come to the conclusion that everything i've done has been for naught. So, I finally got good at making anime but so what? Is it going to help pay my bills? No. Is it going to help make new friends? No.
I've spent 2 years practically living in my basement drawing underage girls like a creep and it just dawned on me that, holy shit man, your life sucks! I could have worked out, I could have went to college and got a degree, I could have traveled and met new people, I could have worked on my interpersonal skills, make some new friends and even a gf. But nope, instead I wasted all that time drawing japanese cartoons that at the end of the day nobody gives a shit about.
TLDR: Really think about whether or not you really want to do this. Is drawing underage japanese cartoons really going to bring happiness? Is it something you want to tell your children and grandchildren you spend doing? Think about it before wasting all that time. I can't get that time back but maybe you can.
>>3059155
>finally got good
What did he mean by this?
>>3059155
>So, I finally got good at making anime but so what? Is it going to help pay my bills? No. Is it going to help make new friends? No.
This part makes no sense. I accidentally skipped this part too and saw the fear mongering part first. So when I came back, I realized your whole post is bullshit.
Is that deel's OC kek
>when you really like an artist but they always say something really pretentious every time they open their mouth
What kind of things do they say? I kind of dislike the word pretentious, I feel like it just discourages certain thoughts that might be valuable for their intelligence or creativity. Like maybe someone IS just showing off, but why is that a problem? Doesn't discouraging that just lower standards?
>inb4 pretentious
>follow a few artists that all??? tyPE like fuckngh asjfkf... tHIS,,
Vims one example of this
has anyone checked out this school in the LA area? Seems legit if you want to get into Film/games.
I went there for one class. The school is run by James Paick and John Park I think, who are both awesome teachers.
oh nice! Did you learn a bunch? I wanna gitgud, but i dont have the 250k for ArtCenter
>>3056467
>>3056460
Have you heard about Concept Design Academy? I think it's pretty close by and it's way older. I'm debating if going to one of them but really unsure about the quality of either.
>>3056467
Also, if I may, do you remember if in your class there were any students that were taking or planning on taking all of their courses? That's what I have planned, 3-4 courses per semester for 3 or 4 semesters. Not sure if it's really feasible or worth it because of how the classes are scheduled is kinda annoying, mostly classes on weekends and some mondays, that would leave me a lot of the week without nothing really going on, other than homework, which I assume would still leave me with a bunch of free time.
Are SCAD books worth it? Thinking about buying this one.
It's a really good book for beginners, best all round overview of the fundamentals that I have seen
Man I wanted to go to that school so badly.
The storyboarding book they did seemed rather mediocre though.
>>3055225
Scad is a great school but this book is pretty crap I have to say.
What does /ic/ use to beat writers/artist block?
Currently using "what to draw" prompt generator but it's outlived its usefulness.
Any cool prompt generators or other tools you could recommend?
>>3058984
Stimulants, they make me want to do stuff and I feel like I can imagine shit and be amused by merely imagining stuff.
>>3058984
Something I do is just draw random shapes or try to make interesting silhouettes on the page. An idea either comes to me when I put down some simple shapes or I just start trying to fill in the shape and make everything up as I go along. After I warm up with one or two of these it gets kinda easier to think about what I want to draw or study.
>>3058984
One big motivator for me is just really seeking out my muse for the week/month/day/etc. If nothing really inspires me, I become spontaneous and try new things, be it a new series or game, or just doing an art study of something I've always wanted to get better at. It's good to keep in mind that an artist block is a little deeper than simply not wanting to draw and having that feeling lasting for a long time. Artist's block may be connected to self-esteem, boredom, or a loss of meaning. Naturally, charging your work with a purpose and just starting can work wonders. One thing I've started to realize is that drawing just one or two subjects for days can really bolster confidence because naturally the focus gives your mind less to worry about and you can easily spot your gradual improvements and what you've learned. Granted, I'm a bit of a scatterbrain and impatient so your story may be different. Mehh hope this helps though it isn't exactly a physical or tech "tool."
Anyone have the Titanfall 2 artbook??? also robot art thread
hnng!
how to hold pencil /ic/
There is a Question thread for this kind of dumb shit. But no, you fucktards need a thread for everything.
like this
I have a nasty callous on my middle finger because of it though
>>3058198
what i meant is how do you hold a pencil, its up personal preference after all.
