Can you make it in the industry if you only use FOSS software?

opinions on mypaint?

I made a successful kickstarter and $5000 worth of commissions purely on mypaint, but I recently upgraded most of my tools and process and as a result use Krita more often (better editing options)

So as a hobby it doesn't matter, but for an industry it most likely matters, most studios don't want to deal with lone wolfs so you're better off just learning PS unless you're working with linux devs or some shit

Try krita.

also fuck anime, don't learn from it.
>>

I'm not looking a tutorial, I just ask for pixiv artists who draw similar things.

Also, the anime is a kind of art, if you don't like, ignore.
>>

all skyes looks the same, they're fucking skyes retard.

if you're looking for the best ones, sci fi illustrations has better night skyes than my generic anime crap.

everything about that disgusts me,
the shitty stylistic choices
the bland figure placement
the fucking abhorrent character design
the subject matter and its philosophies
the idea that the individual personality traits of the writer and the characters are supposed to have value simply for their uniqueness
its all fucking cancerous.

I like it when they leave unfinished work as it shows their structural process a bit and loose thinking. Aside from their constructive methods and coloring, it's what they tend focus on the most and then I try to go back in time to stitch together why they're doing what they're doing.

>2. Post another streetview location
>3. Next poster will have to draw his characters in your streetview
And so on

So, I've been wanting to make a thread about schools and put them all on a link so people can see aprox costs of attendance and maybe a star system
But I want your opinion too, let's do it for the keks
Because the thing is. Most people only know really pricy schools, and there are places that are better cost wise, of course you can learn from home but this doesn't have to do with that.

The schools I know aren't that cheap so let's try to find alternatives to these! Maybe do a section for online schools. What do you think?

Fheng Zhu Design / 1 year / 100,000$ / singapore
Art center / 4-5years / aprox 70.000$ per year / CA USA
Idea Academy / 2-3 years / aprox 90.000$ / Rome

Some other programs are
Brainstorm school
Smart school (online)
Watt's Atelier
Schoolism (online)
CGMA (online)
NMA (online)
Syn studio
Angel Academy -Atelier-
Bethany School of applied arts (online)
Ringling
Gnomon
Gobelins

Maybe we should have a section for school's that are better for animation or concept art or illhstration
If you've been on one of these you can also leave your experience/opinion as a review.

this is the most comprehensive list of Ateliers I have found. They actually have to pay to be on the list so I'm sure there are many more not on it.

https://www.artrenewal.org/pages/ateliers.php
>>
actually, now that I look at it the list has gotten much shorter recently. The safehouse and schuler school are two good ateliers I know that aren't on it. There's like a million ateliers in California.
>>
>>3061766
art school are a scam, you can get the same results with dedication and patience
If you need someone to motivate you to learn how to draw then maybe you shouldn't draw, it's not something that should be made against own motivation, at the risk of making you hate it

Problem. I can draw fairly realistically. But I suck balls at drawing from imagination. And I want to draw manga. But I suck at that too. Unless I'm drawing from a source things just turn out shit

It's because you haven't learned what you're trying to draw. Think of a kid learning how to write; he can copy the letters, but he can't write them without a guide. He needs to practice writing them. You need practice; that's it.

Try drawing the same thing over and over until you practically have it memorised. Also, look into grabbing an anatomy book for artists. They're like 6 bucks on Amazon.
>>
Well probably a fair point. I did take art in highschool but I missed the first few months where they covered the fundamentals. So drawing is easy, but actually constructing an image is a struggle compared to just drawing what I can see
>>
When drawing from a reference, all the information is already there, you just have to copy it competently. You're translating a 2d image to another 2d image. I'd say drawing from imagination is 10 X harder than because you have to come up with everything from scratch. There is no information given to you. You can only rely on your visual library. What helps me expand my visual library is trying to draw something a few times, then redrawing it from memory, then while looking at the reference, drawing it at a different angle and trying to draw it from different angles from memory. This isn't something you can do in a day, it takes a weeks of practice for just one thing, and even then you always have to go back to drawing it again every once in a while or else you'll forget it.

This also works for anime, if you wanna draw anime, draw anime along with your realism studies, don't wait until you think you're ready, yeah it's going to suck but you have to bear with it. Pick your favorite anime artists and use the method in the last paragraph to try to learn how they draw anime. Don't mindlessly copy their work but try to understand why they do the stylistic choices that they do. Really dig in and examine.

Read the sticky and study the books in it, you have to understand form, perspectives, light, anatomy, the whole 9 yards, while also expanding your visual library. Drawing from reference and drawing from imagination are like 2 different skills.

Anyone a part of/is there an /ic/ discord/telegram/slack chat related to artistic improvement? Looking for a chatroom to discuss and improve at art, maybe do weekly challenges and that kind of shit

If there isn't an /ic/ discord, I could make one possibly. I think especially with something like artistic progression having consistent names/space for each other is kinda nice to better learn what we need to improve
>>
>>3061543

there are a few discord but only one of them has anyone good in it. the other 3 end up with memes and people playing games instead of doing art, they're a waste of time.

I was never a fan of cubism until I saw Nude Descending a Staircase by Duchamp and immediately fell in love with it. It's a piece that carries a lot of energy and seems very mechanical despite it seemingly random lines. This was also the piece that made me take a second look at modern art in general rather than just shrug it off.
