>tfw fell for art school meme
>spend weeks doing shitty arts and crafts projects (like a paper mache animal)
>draw a bunch of life models when I could be using 3D models at home for the same effect
>everything still looks like shit

Should I drop out? This is ridiculous, I feel like I learn more from tutorials on /ic/

sounds like a free art school
of course its going to be shit, what did you expect? people debate about whether the most expensive ones are even worth it
>>
Get your shit together and use those years in art school. I know that (pic related) feel. I'm sick atm, dragging myself to work an it takes every inch of dedication to wake up early and draw.
Just do it, start today with a doable amount of work. You're young, healthy and in education. Do something with it, for it will only get harder once you're out of school.
>>
>>3060702
It's up to you what you want things to be. Sure it might be shit, but look at what they can offer that you wont get at home. It might be space and time. Or a place where you can discuss and throw around ideas with like minded (you can not do this at /ic/).
Teachers with more knowledge than they teach (If they are working artists themselves it means that they have some kind of knowledge that you want, so milk that shit like a starving baby).

And for the record. Because this triggers the shit out of me. 3D models is shit compared to live models. Practising gestures by looking at a screen will never give you the same knowledge as practising by looking at a real object.

study his stuff. make a moodboard of some his art, then grab some references of pics that inspire you, and try to create a pic using the reference, in the style you got from the moodboard of his. and emulate it. i learned a fuckton this way.

basically emulate the style of an artist you like while recreating a photo ref.

I tried sculpting with sculpey for the first time and of course I gave up halfway because I thought it looked like shit. I want to pick it up again, but one thing that pissess me off is that it gets ruined just by me holding the goddamn thing. Any videos for beginners or advice I can read anywhere? Should I just loosen my grip?

better use zbrush, sculpey is laggy bullshit.

i've heard blender is okay for non pros, but it gets slow with high polycounts.

Use sculpting tools
Have some sort of stand for your armature

Also I think you can use alcohol to erase fingerprints and make your clay look smoother

Does anyone know of/willing to share any good resources for clay sculpting? Looking for book suggestions, gumroad videos, YouTube channels etc. I'm having a hard time finding stuff that goes over fundamentals. Most of the stuff on YouTube is just a demo or sped up process. I need some babby level "this is an armature and this is clay" type of info.

You really need your hand held that much, that you can't figure out "Take a lump of clay, start forming shapes"?
Little kids can figure that out, with Play Doh.

I swear, this board isn't critique anymore, it's mostly lazy people trying to find shortcuts that don't exist.
>>
>>3061185

>so you're saying there's no way you can figure out how to take a pencil and then start forming blocks of values with it?

Do you see how retarded you sound? Every art has fundamentals that need to be learned. If I don't know the basics of setting up a proper armature or knowing what tool to use for what purpose then it's akin to someone trying to render before they've figured out perspective or basic construction.

But fuck fundamentals amirite? I should just jump straight into doing portraits and busts. Fucking end yourself you snarky, no talent hack.

So let me get this straight there are still people here using actual REAL paint, pencils, pens and brushes that you have to spend money on to make art and using a tablet/going digital?

Is this why some artists are poor? Why would you use anything but a computer?

What would be the process for making something look like this? This glossy look seems so common with anime-style/pixiv artists that there has to be a streamline process for making them.

Hey everyone, I have a bit of a situation on my hand regarding a project I was comissioned through Upwork and I'm not sure how to proceed.

The client has created a board game, and wanted an artist to do the front of the box. He hired me as he liked my artwork. He had a previous artist do the art for the comic book puzzle book that comes with the game, but the client said her English isnt great and her schedule isn't free.

So initially I was asked to do the front of the box. I've don't sketches and revisions of sketches (which I've been paid for) but ultimately he said he now wants to go for a minimalistic style, while keeping the mascot character from the puzzle book on the front. First he wanted thematic, now it's minimal, aka, barely any artwork just words and a few graphics.

But it gets better, just yesterday the client announced that the other artist has come back because she still has to do the cover for the puzzle book. But they also think her cover for the book should be on the back.
The artist all thinks she do draw the character on the cover as she's afraid "the style won't match".

So if the other artist is doing the character on the front and the back, what the fuck am I here for??
The client asked me if I can still design the rest of the box: the instructional stuff on the back, the sides, the extra stuff on the front, but I feel like this is not what I signed up for.

While it would be awesome to stay part of this project, the big thing was to see my artwork on the box and to use it for my portfolio to get similar gigs. I'm an Illustrator, not a graphic designer.

What should I do?
Tl;Dr. Was asked to do the art for a board game cover, now designated as a graphic/product designer using someone else's artwork.

Damn autocorrect. Meant the artist also thinks she should draw the character on the cover as she's afraid "the style won't match"
>>
Either do the work and get paid or back out due to breach of contract/getting your fee-fees hurt

it's not rocket science. The client has no obligation at any time except to pay for completed work and any other arrangements you might agree upon. if you want security, get a day job
>>
Do it and get out. Don't do more work for that client afterwads because it's clear they don't know what the fuck they're doing

I'm a fan of having no commentary let's plays running in the background. Stuff like bloodborne, dark souls, silent hill. They're not as intrusive or distracting as music and set up a nice mood.
>>
Youtube has been trying to get me to listen to those 24 hour lofi hiphop streams lately. They’ve actually pretty nice because they’re very low on vocals. Almost nonexistent.

>just read the sticky
>just spend thousands of hours drawing boxes and lines
meanwhile there are artists who traced or heavily referenced (practically traced, with small modifications) who now have professional jobs in the industry, or have published comics. most of the successful patreon artists just do paintovers.

while retarded nerds keep drawing boxes thinking anyone cares about the process. in the age of technology with the wealth of references on the internet, you're only gimping yourself while everyone moves ahead of you. vilpu, loomis, and all the other dinosaurs worshiped here are only holding beginners back in the modern age.

>>3062525
yeah ok....
>>
>>3062525
Go ahead then, do just that and come back here once you're a successful patreon artist.

So I was taking a look at the ImagineFX book and came across what they call "Industrial Design" Method of drawing the figure
I found it pretty easy to get behind compared to others so I was wondering what other books go more in depth about drawing anatomy this particular way or what other resources should I use to study
