Hey, I'm playing round with sketching freehand, no guides. And I'm wondering which of these sketches look better and if possible, why.

If not possible, just which look better to your unbiased eyes than the others is cool.

Thanks for your time, /ic/.

(Sketches will include 3 pics, the thread pick + 2 more I'm going to post after this.)

Scribbled in my notes are my own personal notes, judgements, methods used, etc. You can completely ignore them they aren't relevant, I'd rather just hear your unbiased opinion.

Time's getting slim and I only have time for an hour to draw a day from Mon to Thurs. How can I get more out of practice each day? How should I allocate that studying shit up within that hour? How can I speed up?

What I would do for myself is work out a schedule for a week at a time and streamline myself as much as possible i.e. clean and set up my desk and materials and anything else I may need to be easily accessible at my work space.
And also to focus on my concentration by breaking up my working time with short breaks like 20 min work 3 min break (use a timer) where I would just sit back in my chair relax and just be in my thoughts or think of nothing at all then get right back to work after I have reset. I would also change my diet for better performance, avoiding rice, pasta and bread eating foods with good fats like avocado/salmon and avoid sugars and sweeteners.
And if I can find some extra time I would do 40 min of body weight exercise a day and read 20 pages of a non art related book daily.

Anybody here work full time and do all their study before work?
I have heard that if i come home from work, have a shower and go to bed and set my alarm for 8 hours then wakeup and go onto that schedule i will get better gains.

Basically work is the last thing i do in the day and i get my study in before hand.

Does it work? ill be a wreck at work but will i improve faster?

Who else is doing this?

I work Grave shift and usually set aside the 2 hours before work for drawing. Usually it goes:

2pm wake up
3-7pm do whatever, usually video games/movies
7-9pm:draw
9-10pm:get ready for work and arrive
10pm-6am work
6-7am prepare food and eat
7am-2pm sleep

I would like to try it as well, but idk how efficient that would really be. In one hand, I would be less tired, on the other, I'm not sure if my family would respect that time.

I don't work but I paint and draw six hours a day minimum at your rate you can't compete my friend

You're probably joking but that's what I've been doing because I wanted to learn anatomy but also have a musclegirl fetish.

>5 mins of drawing something I struggle with
>Entire night of wrist pains

Anyone else have this shit. If I'm just mindlessly painting something I can go several hours and my wrists don't hurt at all. But when I study something I'm not good at my wrists just die on me. I was told by another artist once that he would feel pain in his hands whenever he went to study, but then when he'd stop it would go away right away. He said that he just pushed through it and that it eventually went away. I'm worried though that because my wrists don't stop hurting for a long time after that if I try that it will end up doing permanent damage.

I've heard of things like wrists splints and the sort. But I was wondering if something like that would just weaken my wrists further. Maybe I could just wear one when I draw things that stress me out? What do you guys do to take care of your wrists? And does anyone have anything similar to me?

I should mention too that I'm a weak, thin person who is very easily stressed. I know that is the reason why my wrists are probably so fucked, but I really struggle with gaining more weight and dealing with stress. Of course that's no means to just accept it and do nothing about it. But I don't want to sit around and not be able to study until I've gotten healthier, because that could be a long time from now.

See a doctor. Asking here is pointless. The symptoms you're describing can be a lot of things.
>>
>>3132317
I'm confident that it's just stress related, and that a doctor would just tell me to take better care of myself. And I'm going to do just that.

I just want to know if anyone has had something similar. And if there's anything I can do to cope with it so that I don't have to refrain from drawing. Also what's good to practice to keep wrists healthy in the long run.

Here's some wrist exercises you can try. I'm not sure how much it'll help, but it's worth a shot.

I already read the rules and beginners guide.

When I was a kid, 8-13yo, I used to draw comic and anime characters (Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, etc).

Also drew a lot of comics and would gift them to some people, random ass stories, etc.

Anyway, I wanna get back to it. But I don't wanna go back to pencil/paper kinda drawing, I'd prefer to get pens/mechanical pencils and tools that make things way easier. I know a good artist can draw awesome shit out of a napkin and an old ball point pen. I'm not trying to impress anyone, just wanna draw for myself, the max I wanna draw is a something that I can hang above my bed header in a frame.

Anyway, what's a good mechanical pencil, or pencil that's easy on the hand?

What do you call those easy to erase blue pencils people use for initial sketch? (skeleton/shape)

You got a recommended how to draw anime book? I did a google search but obviously too many choices.

I'm also an adult with a good paying job, so I don't mind having a budget from $100-$500 for pencils/erasers/markers/whatever (unless it turns out that's way underbudget for this)

From my understanding, the process is skeleton in that blue pencil, then sketch in black pencil, then marker for the good lines, and then erase all the pencil stuff (This coming from art I've comissioned in the past)

So I'd like to figure out how to kick-start this. I'm not looking to be an artist, I just wanna draw for myself and not suck at it.

so their is all these poses and what not i find my self drawing another pose some other artist done.
is it alright to copy poses from other pictures like illustrator, animators, comics. but not trace? this is always bother me and i dont know where else to say this besides here.
Kr0nzpr1nt had it bad a few years back about this problem as well

No, if you draw something even remotely similar to what another artist has done you'll be executed on the spot.
>>
>>3132242

It's pretty simple. If I can tell "oh you copied that pose from a Ruan Jia painting" you fucked up. The issue is not the pose per se but copying shapes.

Wait... when did this happen?

Last I recall TinTin was getting beaten by the Yakuza kid.
>>
>>3132315
How did you forget about the camp arc, anon? You can clearly tell because that's the only time he's done a drop kick, also his arm is jacked up in the image too.
>>
>>3132316
Oh yeah!!

I just thought that was Stain for some reason.

Also, for dynamic poses. I find doing studies from manga and sakuga to be great practice. Also, there's some Japanese pose books for that as well.

This is one of my acrylic pieces at the moment, unfortunately my scanner does not have enough space to scan the whole painting so I had to compile two images together, which causes a lot of problems with lighting and a lot of other things. How can I get a good quality high-res photo without my shitty scanner?

Hey lads. Finally got started with digital last night and of course got my ass handed to me. Obviously not used to the tablet but other things I just need a bit of advice on. Basic things. Like what is a pretty good standard canvas size to work with? Good brush sizes and settings for sketching and inking? In general I an not a complete beginner or anything. Another thing I'm interestred in is advice about mastering the pressure sensitivity aspect and creating good lines.

This is all so new. appreciate any tips or even links to tutorials for this fundamental stuff.

I would also ask how to get used to the tablet but I think the answer is just to use it.
