Design a character for a survival horror game.
>BRIEF
Platform: We'll be releasing the game on PC, PS4 and XBOX one.
Visual style: Photorealistic with about 20% styling/exaggeration. Think Indiana Jones, larger than life. Cinematography is on the style of Sleepy Hollow (1998 film) http://evanerichards.com/2009/1355
Gameplay style: 3rd person action/adventure with exploration and shooting. Ref gears of war, resident evil 4/5/6, uncharted series, Tomb Raider, the evil within.
Setting: Dilapidated house in and alternate version of the 1945 in war torn France. The house is connected to a complex with underground nazi labs where experiments are being done in humans and animals. The environment/ architecture is a mix of art deco and googie architecture, run down from constant bombings from allied forces.
Protagonist: Allied war prisoner, french, about 30 years old. Beaten up and exhausted. No exceptional skills except some military training, slightly above average joe thrown in a situation over his head. Moved by instinct of surviving and escaping the nightmare he's in. Starts the game without any kind of weapon or equipment.
Design requirements: Since we don't want to overload the screen with UI, the character should have equipment and weapons visible at all times on the character model. The standard loadout is a melee weapon, small arm and rifle. Loadout can be changed at checkpoints or by switching guns when picking them up throughout the level. Loadout never exceeds one of each categories (one melee, one handgun, one rifle).
>CONCEPT MATERIAL NEEDED
- Character exploration
- Character evolution throughout the game
- Equipment studies
- Orthographic views to help out the modeling team
- Material and equipment callout sheets
- Expression and movement studies for the animation team.
>ILLUSTRATOR MODE:
Design the game cover. Cover should preferably include the protagonist in some sort of action moment/pose. Try to make it eye popping but keep in mind the aesthetics described in the concept brief. Keyword for the mood is tension. Design and composition is up to you, just make sure to leave space for the logo/title and layout items (studio name, ESBR rating, etc)
>JUNIOR CONCEPT ARTIST MODE
Design the character in a finalized pose, bearing in mind the specs given in the brief. If possible post your sketches and iterations.
>CONCEPT ARTIST MODE
Same as junior mode, but add in equipment and character animation studies. Those don't have to be refined, just a general idea on how the character react and moves about.
>SENIOR CONCEPT ARTIST MODE
In addition to the other two tiers' work, do equipment studies and character evolution throughout the game.
>LEAD CONCEPT ARTIST MODE
Do all of the brief (exploration, callouts, orthos, etc)
>ART DIRECTOR MODE
Sit on your ass and bitch about this challenge.
>DEADLINES
Illustrator mode: 1 week
Junior concept and concept artist: 1 week
Senior concept artist: 2 weeks
Lead concept artist: 3 weeks
Art director: You're the boss, you don't need a fucking deadline.
Have at it /ic/.

Alright /ic/, lets see what you've got.
Here's the deal. I want to get better at drawing. Up until recently I've had no interest in drastically improving my art because I don't really draw all that much. I take really long breaks and I'm generally lazy. I want to get better at drawing because lately I've been feeling more creative and would like to express myself better through my drawings, something that is just not possible at my current level.
Now, some of you may know me, most of you probably don't so here's the thing: I want to draw generic, cute, sexy anime girls doing cute things. That's all for now.
Please provide me with advice tailored to suit my needs. If you give me good advice I will do my best to follow it, I promise.
What do I mean by good advice? Don't tell me to study Loomis or Bridgeman. Tell me something like, "Read chapter X from Y book by Loomis, it will help you because of the following reasons: ...".
Another thing about good advice is that you should give tips that have worked for you, instead of tips you've heard of.
I guess I'm really trying got avoid getting copy-pasta replies, /ic/ tends to do that a lot. Resources like the w/ic/i are fine but there's too much information to comb through, that's why I'm asking for help.
Think of this as an experiment, if you guys are able to somehow get me in shape it would be quite interesting, I think! My gallery is available for you to browse and spot problematic areas.
I know that I need to be able to represent 3D objects convincingly which is why my poses look stiff and uninteresting, please provide advice on that area.
Here's a link with most of my art from the last 4 years or so:

Thank you. Lets hope this works out!

hmm are you the same anon who keeps trying to "recruit" me for /pol/?
^^ ;;
Sorry, I just don't have time to learn the ways of a new board, 4chan can be too much of a distraction and my time is limited : (
update
god you are so fucking lazy
the most effort you've put into anything lately is this thread and the amount of shit you wrote
get off of /ic/
go draw
dont come back until youre serious about this shit, because youre not and its painfully transparent
I want to get serious with pencil work
what is the best brand of pencil I should look for?
Are clutch pencils good? what about mechanical pencils?
>>2139781
A good ol' Ticonderoga has always been my go to. I find the graphite in mechanical pencils breaks to easily when doing dark shadowing or what have you.
Mitsubishi Hi-uni are top tier. If you don't have the cash or suck just get staedlers tho.
>>2139781
Tombow Mono pencils are pretty highly regarded by a lot of pros.
I prefer a 2mm lead holder because it's easier to get a fine point and more comfortable to hold. Good 2mm leads are about $1 each most places, although jetpens has Uni Mitsubishi leads at half that price that I've yet to try but are supposed to be about the same as their wooden pencils (which are great).
Pic related is what's on my desk. I've got a lot more than that, and honestly I use the Pentel P209 with 2B lead and the Staedtler Mars Technico with HB lead more than everything else.
Hey guy I've been trying to find this artist he started a paypal beg draw thread on /b/ a few weeks ago if any one know who it plz help
>>2246904
Why would you want a commission from that guy?
Not only is he ass at drawing, but he's just annoying to begin with.
I know his name, but no way I'm letting you waste your money on him
>>2246976
But that post says nothing about comissioning him. What if he just wants to look at more of his art?
>>2246976
>he's just annoying to begin with.
Just like you.

i don't know much, but berserk and sandman are really good.
>>2063883
also, related is from innocent by sakamoto shinichi, some anon posted about it earlier. it looks very good but sadly it isn't translated.
>>2063883
Not the manga, but the animation of Jojo's bizarre adventure had some interesting art in it.
Hive the manga has some cool backgrounds
Vanesa R. Del Rey
Frank frazetta which isn't exactly a comic artist but he is so good I can't leave him out
Brian Bolland
Could you have designed a better Joker, /ic/?

Alright. Where the fuck do I start. I'm a beginner
I read the sticky, and lurk a shit ton and apparently the sticky is "useless" or "inefficient"
I've been jumping between Drawing from the Right side of the brain and Loomis because people can't make up their mind and I cant either.
And now I hear Drawabox com is where I should really start.
Where the hell do I start. What books should I follow in what order? Why does everyone point me in a different direction to start?
Seems like you're lost, anon
Remember, no matter what kind of advice you're given, if you feel lost or overwhelmed - just draw. Draw whatever, draw something new, draw something you want, just don't draw something you're used to drawing before. Drawing enough will show you your own weakspots - if you're passionate enough to improve, you'll know where to start. Improvement is a steep slope, though - once you find out you're weak in something like the arm and start practicing it, you'll start falling further and further back until you root your problems in the fundamentals. It's a steep fall we take to get our fundamentals up to speed, and it takes months to years, but the framework is worth it and it'll be with you for the rest of your life. There really isn't a better way to improve your art then to improve your fundamentals: Form, perspective, values, anatomy/gesture, composition, etc...
Read Perspective Made Easy, do drawabox, download torrent containing Dynamic Sketching with Peter Han and Figure Drawing with Hampton. There, that should last ya 6 months.

>Dynamic Sketching with Peter Han
^^ this is a very good one for absolute beginner
Also OP what I did when I was a beginner was I did a series of "tests" to gauge where I was at and what I needed. Out of all my beginner experiences Id say the biggest hurdle and thing that made things better for me was understanding perspective and drawing objects in 3d.
When I started understanding that, I could construct better without things and body parts floating all over the place, things could look solidly placed on surfaces and not look "off", I could do proportions in perspective properly, and could determine faces/angles for light so I could shade as well too.
As much as people like loomis, I found hampton much easier to understand and his shapes/color breakdown methods were super helpful.
People, animal, places, machinery, clothes etc.
Post requests, post your collections, post resources etc.
As promised, resharing some of my own reference collection, resized the parts so hopefully it'll work this time.

How do you deal with the tumblr crowd as an artist, /ic/?
please explain full background of this, because this sounds ridiculous and I am about to rage.
who's attacking the artists and how? why?
are sjw behind this?
You don't. No seriously, I think it would be better to ignore those kinds of people. If your art is 'offending' them, they don't have to be fans of your work and there is not point in trying to pander to people who only gave a shit about you because you offended them. If you let them get to you your work will suffer, and why? Just to appease some strangers on Tumblr?
You will never please these kinds of people. If you do one thing right, they bitch about another. You're the artist, don't let other people tell you how to make your art.
Also, Really sucks for those artists, they actually canceled their whole webcomic just for some retards?
If you're that scared of the tumblr crowd then post your work somewhere else.

Alright, I was directed here from /co/
I'm looking to create an MSPA comic, which means it needs to be aliased
However, someone told me that I don't improve, that I can't learn where the mistakes of my works are. atm I'm just brainstorming in pic related.
How bad is this?
How can I change my thinking so I can learn from mistakes?
OR do I already improve?
left one is 1st test, 2nd one is the newer one, i'm trying a 3rd picture now
If you must know, it's about Halo ODST, you know, like Prequal is about the eldar scrolls
