Why do people learn to draw
Why did you learn to draw
What does drawing mean to you
>>2374959
learnt to draw cuz it looked fun
I used to draw because i liked it
Now i draw because if i dont ill forever be embarassed at the huge sunk cost
I fucking hate drawing and that's how it should be for everyone.
>>2374959
It's like learning magic.

Sometimes I feel like visual art doesn't matter as much today as it did around the turn of the century. The primary visual media people consume today is cinema. Back in the day painting kind of filled that roll. Music is also huge today. Sometimes it feels like 2D is on the way out as something important and regularly viewed by the public. Nobody gives a shit. What do you think?
>The primary visual media people consume today is cinema.
What the fuck kind of question is this?
Are you looking to be some art celebrity and do art for some fame? Fuck off.
>>2374960
He's right though, most people would rather watch a film or listen to music than look at paintings
I bought a Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch in 2011, thinking it would get me drawing again. It didnt, I barely used it in all these years, just ocassionally connecting it twice a year and thats it. Well Ive been trying to get it set up again for some time and it just doesnt work anymore, but I refuse to accept it. How can it just go bad like that? I didnt drop it, I always kept it safe, how can it from one day to another just suddenly not work anymore? Windows 7/8 doesnt recognize it, Wacom drivers dont recognize it, it doesnt lit up anymore when I connect it... I tried 3 different computers, and nothing.
Could it be the cable? Ive tried 3 mini USB cables, all work for my phone, but none with the tablet... do I need a special one? I feel so hopeless, like I cant do anything about it but suck it up...
It's not pc, it's not cable, looks like it really the pad itself. If not for the fact that it doesn't lit up I'd say you would have had a chance, but the this fact makes me think that something critical has happened. Don't know what you're so pissed about, you had 5 years to fully utilize it and while finding that it suddenly broken is upsetting you're really overreacting with hopelessness and stuff.
>>2373012
Yeah Im not blaming Wacom or anything, Im just seeing the use I gave it and I want to hit myself... even more because Im relativelitely poor so I wont be able to afford another one for a while... still Ive got a ton of paper and I know you guys advocate paper over digital for newbies so Im glad theres that!
I just sort of wanted a definitive answer on whether theres any chance of it working or I have to throw it away...
Now that Im bac to pen and paper, at what level fo proficiency should I switch to digital?
It seems like Anthony Jones got a book funded from Kickstarter and his backers haven't received their books yet. The book itself is available for purchase on Amazon. This doesn't make sense. Thoughts?
read the comments on this page. People are very angry.

That guy looks like a total faggot.
Whoever backed this guy deserves to get ripped off, his work looks like it sucks anyway lol "heavens hell" I absolutely doubt it.
Anyone who invests in a book of 'art' with that title deserves to get ripped off.

lol fag
Hello /ic/! How exactly would you make it appear as text is going through a image like in the logo on this shirt in Photoshop?
You erase the text that goes over the frontal part of the object. Geez.
>>2375206
or layers but ya, wtf op
>>2375215
I'm just starting out with art. I knew this was a way but i thought there might have been a easier way.
If I draw something and I want to ink it, what material would I get to ensure the ink doesn't ruin the image in the case that I mess up, or do I ink directly on the sketch?
>>2375064
you ink on a light board over a new sheet
>>2375071
This.
Alternatively you can use white out and scan.
Use tracing paper that can take inking if you don't want to ink directly on a sketch. White gouache/opaque watercolor is usually recommended for direct corrections.
>>2374826
This is the kind of shit I love, but with certain polygons having designs within them, or being filled in.
Can you deliver this, OP?
>>2374826
Friend of mine in high school did something like this only rounded and hit mushrooms and pot leaves in it. Our teacher raved about it and hung it on the wall for months.
whats the best way to paint from a foto in a free hand way?
>>2374371
Lightbox
>>2374371
Don't
>>2374371
graph it if you suck
I should give up with Loomis? I don't really feel like I'm getting it
>>2372678
suki ni shiro yo
nigger did you even read the book you have to think in 3d and draw in 3d
it's a sphere not a wobbly circle. the lines go around the form
the jar is a whatever that jar shape is. It's a 3d object connected to the sphere
the nose is a wedge
the eyes are the incave on the skull and the sphere of the eyeball not 2006 runescape eyes
Just keep drawing man do more perspective and simple shape drawings
>>2372678
>Should I give up? I don't feel like I'm getting it
You do realize how stupid that sounds right?
To learn something is to not get it and work until you get it. Sure you can give up, but if you actually want to do it then you need to keep practicing. With drawing you get out what you put in.
Interesting challenge and take on Style

this looks like fun but then again this is ic
>>2369979
It looks cool, nice idea. You could repost it in stylization thread.
I tried it, but man it's tough. I ended up doing it all within the time limit with a blue pencil, then going over it all afterwards with ink. Jake is a good motherfucker... Will definitely do this more often though.
Whats the point of getting gud if nobody knows who you are?
Pic related is an AMAZING illustration but nobody know who's the artist.
I've already reverse image search it and nothing came up, you guys are wrong, marketing > loomis
>>2364993
let me guess, you're still in high school if you think that's good.
go back to tumblr, sis.
>>2364995
>being this new
the gesture of the characters are flowing nicely with the composition, its a very good illustration
>>2365000
... i'm not even going to respond to that. welcome to my hidden thread folder.
Post em now.

Verily.
What does /ic/ think of Plague of gripes?
He's cool and I love a lot of his work and videos, but he recently did a video about his ethos when it comes to learning to be an artist, and I pretty much disagreed with everything he said.
He basically said practice was pointless and all you should do is constantly try new styles instead of practicing. I remain unvonvinced...
>>2372572
Man, whoever suggested that sounds like a faggot.
He seems like an alright guy, but I don't like his art much. His colours, his rendering, his lines, his style in general, it's all just not very appealing. I think he's just a hobbyist, though, and a good amount of people seem to like his work, so I don't think it matters much. The stories or comics he does seem nice.
>>2372572
I'm watching this right now, and it's kinda... weird. I don't really like the things he's saying. It all sounds really naive, I think. Nice voice, though.
Made this character drawing.
>>2368362
I look mean as ever. xD
>>2368362
But you know. It'll be on hold, gotta focus on school.
