Hands are the most fun part. Gesture, structure, lots of observation and taking notes.
You'll find that the things that make your hand drawings look shit keep recurring, so just keep an eye on them. Things like
>hand doesn't taper from the wrist, thumb's metacarpal is the wrong proportion relative to pointing finger's metacarpal, silhouette is an unappealing shape etc.
If you get them all down, the hand will be a spot on and damn does that feel good.

Hampton's approach helped me the most, honestly. Those little ballpoint pen scribbles are one of the most valuable things in his book.

Does anyone know of any great artist desks that can tilt, has a tab to keep stuff from rolling off the table, one that can kind of slide into my bed (think of a C table), and maybe a cupholder?... Yeah this might be too much to ask. What tables do you guys have?

(P.s. the one in the pic won't do because it's unable to slide in so close to my bed. I don't have much space in my room since I share it with someone)

That's an antique, just kidding. Just look in hospital supply, or amazon, this one is $60

All you have to do is glue a pencil holder to the bottom edge or something. They make all kinds of hospital bed tables, I was looking at them a couple of years ago for my mom at home, when she was really sick and stuck in bed.

yeah but when a lot of art is concentrated in somewhere like a museum it takes hours or days to go through it. also you get better at it so those paintings that took weeks only take a couple hours. you ever see 'warm up' sketches of pro artists? they look better than something beg spends days . also if you have paintings hanging up on your walls or as your wallpaper on your pc they get a lot more viewing time

I'm looking to comission illustrators/artists in the future to make art for posters of video games, maybe movies or tv shows, and my own stupid ideas unrelated to those two. I already have listed artists that have worked with companies producing posters such as mondo, but i know i'm missing so many more great artists

Share some names and post your favorite pieces they made

I love laurent's work, the way he does his all his work he manages to design art where the colors are mostly easy on the eyes, and the style he uses with lines running across everything gives his art a nice amount of detail without being too distracting. could anyone tell me how that style is called?

For me the hardest part about drawing is creating a pose from my imagination. I've studied quite a bit and know a fair amount of anatomy, proportions, gesture and structure, but when I don't have a photo or anything to reference I find it very hard just coming up with a dynamic or interesting pose whether its actiony or lewd. Now I know there's nothing wrong with using reference, but like, I don't wanna end up COMPLETELY dependent on it. I'm sure talented artists like Yoh Yoshinari have to come up with a lot of their poses without any reference. Are there any handy tips and tricks to coming up with interesting poses, or Videos on the topic. I've looked for a few myself but haven't found many that were useful, and while I love proko, his drawing from imagination video is just embarrassing. Which kind of concerns me since I've learnt 80% of what I know from him and don't wanna end up like that.

Thanks (also image is from Yoh Yoshinari's Sketchbook)

Draw dynamic poses of artists you like, get a mirror and pose infront of it, do the pose you're drawing and feel where the muscles tense and think about how you can push it and distort features for more action.
>>
>>3079518
The key to drawing good poses from imagination is to actually know what it is you are drawing. Seems obvious, but apparently not many people are actually aware of it. When they study figures, they study nothing but life drawing poses and those weird nonsensical poses models make on online drawing sites.

If you want to draw flashy, dynamic martial art poses, you have to have studied martial artists at some point. Hell, something as simple as a person running or walking is something I rarely see studied by illustrators and fine art types, yet animators like Yoshinari have drawn thousands of running cycles in their life. So obviously he can draw any variation of a person in motion from imagination by now.

in short, study less nonsensical poses and more people DOING things, then apply those studies to drawings from imagination.

This

Real fighting is way more dynamic than those stiff pose refs. if you're going to study fighting from a photo, at least study it from people who know what they're doing. Same thing for gun refs.

I want to start cartooning. I was a screenwriting major but I feel like animation, over live action, allows a lot more freedom. I'm not the best illustrator but I've been dabbling with character design a little bit lately. Any critique on how I can develop this style?

Anyone got any info or tutorials of how to achieve the copic/paint daub looking effect Vanillaware uses for the graphics in its games? Trying to find a brush set to pull it off, see a few artists on Pixiv who use a similar style.

learn how to use copic markers.
those artists who digitally paint that way can do so because they regularly use them.
>>
>>3081607
I know it's layers of a marker like brush. Looking for some recs.
>>
>>3081609
the point is they know how to achieve this look because it's instinctive. if you try to imitate it based on some random tutorial you'll only end up with a superficial understanding and limited rendering capability based on the examples used in the tutorial. get some basic grey markers (1,3,5,7,9) and practice rendering things. Then transfer your knowledge to digital.

Would you have amazing rendering ability like Ruan Jia and limited in your ability to draw from imagination or have zero rendering ability like 0033 but able to sketch the human body from almost any angle?

stupid at first glance, but actually a very good question.

I honestly don't care about imagination or drawing. combining references is a lot nicer that drawing kjg scenes with people in it imo.

If i could fucking paint like a chinamen it's no different than having a pet succubus or a billion dollars.
>>
Without a solid foundation your just putting lipstick on a pig.
>>
drawing from imagination and having as little references as possible is what I aim to do, feels more freeing in a way. I just love how loose the image on the right feels.
