>never draw because I'm shit
>shit because I never draw
What do, /ic/? I used to have so much fun drawing, but lately all I can ever think about when I try to draw is how bad I am at it. The learning materials I've tried don't tend to work for me, including Loomis. How can I get past hating myself so I can put in the work to git gud?
Are you aiming for professional work? If not, find another hobby, one that don't make you sad.
>>2459067
Stop trying to draw complex things.
>>2459067
the point of being an artist isn't to git gud
the point is to keep drawing until your arm falls off or you get old and die
SO DRAW BOI, DO IT UNTIL YOU GIT GUD AND ACQUIRE AN INCOME
I have 11 months to impress the art college I want to apply to. I'm not worrying about drawing but traditional painting seems hard.
What's the best media to use for a beginner?
pick up some bob ross stuff. seems straight forward enough

ugh no I want a legit painting technique for traditional painting, I'm not a sunday painter
Get gamblin 1980 oil paint or winsor newton winton oil paint,
gamsol, linseed stand oil, and refined linseed oil. Have two large glass containers or "silicoil tank"s filled with gamsol for cleaning your brushes. Have one small glass container with gamsol for dipping your brush before you apply initial layer of paint. And have one small glass container filled with mixture (shake it) of 2/5 linseed stand oil, 2/5 refined linseed oil and 1/5 gamsol - for dipping brushto mix with paint for subsequent layers.
Do not prime the canvas with a color but start painting by leaving it blank white to reveal the whitest white. Then use burnt umber on brush made very wet and thinned with gamsol and gently draw the basic shapes as if you were doing watercolor. If you make a mistake smudge out the part you want erased with a clean brush wet and thinned with gamsol.
Once you get down the shapes of the main figure, start coloring in the parts with colors you want - whether it's literal representation or a limited palette or imaginary. For this initial layer of paint, dip the brush in gamsol. Once you lay down all of the initial layer and fill up the canvas, start mixing paint with the 1/5 2/5 2/5 mixture before applying it to the canvas.
If you make a mistake and need to work over the area, scrape off excess paint with palette knife before proceeding. It's also good to wait for paint to dry.
Constantly mix paint with palette knife, wipe knife with a paper towel or rag, apply paint with brush thinned with gamsol or mixture, clean brush on paper towel or rag, then clean brush again with container of gamsol, then dry brush on paper towel or rag, and repeat the process.
Which 'art' publications are worth following? Not looking for anything specific. It's just something I've always meant on doing, but I don't know where to start.
>>2457748
Feedly, take a rip through the feeds avalible for "fine art", "contemporary art"
>>2457868
Yes! I made an account earlier today and have spent a decent chunk of time collecting feeds. This is great!
I have yet to connect with art sites though, and I've also haven't deposited much trust on those kind of "most popular" feed results, as I assume they cater to the lowest common denominator, but if you say so, I'll check them out.

who are you afraid of triggering?
who is your favorite out of these? why do you enjoy their work?
I honestly have to say out of all these artists, Oscar Murillo, Sterling Ruby, and Mary Weatherford stand out.
To keep it short, people can debate me or not.
Oscar Murrillo, has an incredible sense of materials. The textures, through draw, painting, and raw texture are quite amazing. And the sense that the works are mutable, compels me even more.
Sterling Ruby: Wow. I've heard of him for a while, but only yesterday did I take a larger look at his work. Those color field paintings, stunned me. Especially "SP288, 2014" one of my favorite paintings to date.
Mary W: The nonchalnt aspect of her neon lights with juxatposition of the flashe abstractions hits the right amount of minimalism (neon lights) with complexity (paint). There's a nice balance going on.
Anyone care to add or subtract?

I looked up the first guy on Google and this came out. He's my favorite already

Any tips on a Hirohiko Araki-like style?
Study it, mimmick it..etc.
cross hatching, sharp edges, girly eyes, muscles.
Ding.
>>2452205
Study Western masters. Araki drew heavily from Italian artists like Da Vinci and Michelangelo.
Look at fashion magazines and draw from them too.

-Peach Skin tone
+Coffee + shaving cream
=the shaving cream neutralizes the organic component of the coffee, so it wont smell & will be closer to a pigment than a drink. The shaving cream also adds white to the brownness of the coffee, making a orange-peach color.
-Charcoal stick
+stick + fire
Just burn the end of a stick.
=I personally like this more than storebought charcoal as you have more control with a "handle" stick component. Downside is you only get a handful of good lines out of one burn, but the lines are really phenomenal, especially for nature drawing. You can gather up 10 sticks, light all of the ends, get good lines out of each, then just relight the batch again.
Personally, I'm looking for:
DIY pigments
DIY Chalk
DIY Gesso
DIY Ink
DIY Paper
DIY Canvas
DIY pallette
& Good ideas for cheap bookbinding

Yo /ic/ what do u think of my new tag? also general graff thread, show me ur tags geezers
>>2458040
poor little guy
Looks generic and illegible, so about as good as your average shittag.
You know what would actually be impressive and stand out from the bland, repetitive shit taggers pump out? If they tried doing gorgeous, calligraphy/cursive. Something that takes serious and unique talent
We need to address this
>>2457449
No, it doesn't really need to be talked every week.
>>2457450
Every week? I don't lurk /ic/ like I used to. I'm more used to this shit being spammed on /co/ every other day. So what's the overall census?
What's the preferred way to show somebody the shading and light deflection in a piece ?
I want to break down the way the light is interacting with the character in this image
>>2457116
why choose an already stylized image? get a photo. I think it is better to have the connection to reality.
>>2457149

To absorb his style.
I wouldn't post any of the violent images here, but he's my personal favorite hentai artist in terms of light work.
Which cartoonist draws the best stylised male muscular figure?
>>2456687
Who draws metal gear stuff. Or the castlevania stuff. Those are nice IMO.
>>2456931
yoji shinkawa
>>2457080
Yeah there's something nice about this.
Hey there, I am making a type of American Hentai. My style is comic book like spider man, x man, JLA and all that good stuff but at the same time I admire the hentai art style of artist like Shiwasu No Okina, ISUTOSHI, and Yamatagawa. Since the doujin I am making is a parody of a sex scene from a comic book should I make it resemble the artist as much as possible or should I make it my own style? The artist style is like Jack Kirby and my art style is a bit like michael turner. what should I do???
post work

Do some sketches, thumbs, concepts, as they are in your mind, write what you think down on a page. See if it makes sense. Probably shelve it for now.
