Best fully posable figure for referencing basic human poses? Pic definitely not related, this thing isn't nearly flexible enough. Looking for something fully posable and articulate.

I was looking at these, but the fucking anime faces and body types really turn me off. There's gotta be something a little more realistic, right?

sup /ic/ might be in the wrong board but I figure artfags would have more knowledge on this. Is screen printing a business worth investing in? I only have about 200 bucks to use and I'm looking into a screen printing kit + materials. I'm mainly looking into making patches and shirts. I don't have a job or any income coming my way and I realize I gotta spend money to make money. thoughts?

Do you have art and design skills? You sound like you don't have any silkscreen experience yet. Do you have business and marketing skills?

You know, this could be a fun and profitable small business, but I gotta be honest with you: don't spend you last $200 bucks expecting to figure out how to make a reliable income on shirts. Save up $1,000 doing a shitty part time job or something, while you work on your designs, then play around with printing and selling. You can find a niche market, but this isn't the 90's anymore.

But yeah. Go for it. You just don't have enough money to get it going now.

I have a decent pull as I do a little promotion/marketing on the side. My idea is to start off printing merch for local bands and selling them in bulk while having my own online store for everything else (also want to have my own recognizable brand of clothing eventually)
>>
>>2462837
desu this sounds like a good idea. B4 you start make sure you have sure deals from those local bands

Any tips on how to do watercolor over graphite without smudging everything to shit?

Can you use workable fixative before painting?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I do my drawing on cardboard, then trace it onto tracing paper. I transfer my drawing to my watercolor paper using architects transfer paper which is like graphite paper but is not as dirty. I than have a good solid drawing which may or may not be seen in the finished painting depending on how transparent my finished painting is. I have used this system for years, sometimes using graphite if I want fainter lines. I rarely if ever draw on my watercolour paper.
>>
Spritz your sketch with water, that'll help the graphite sink into the fibers some before you start painting.
>>
If you want to use a fixative, make sure you sketch with a hard graphite, 2b and harder should be fine, and only apply a reeeeeeally light application of fixative otherwise you're going to interfere with your paper's ability to absorb pigment.

I would recommend experimenting first on some scrap paper before you commit to a larger piece.

Im starting to learn how to draw with a tablet in PS and I dont want to fall to bad habits.
Should I get any of those pencil brushes for sketching or just use the standard ones?

Im not really feeling confortable with the default brushes but at the same time I know once I learn something I stay with it for years. It happened me in 3Dmax or zbrush.

Which are your personal choices?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I recently downloaded pencil brushes and it feels much better for sketching, I was with default brush for a long time and it always felt messy

Gotta use good brushes settings too
>>
brushes literally don't matter for shit

There is nothing you can't draw or paint with just the built-in brushes

if you feel some other brushes are more comfy or work better for you, use them, but don't waste more time on thinking about brushes than you have to, it's just procrastination and won't improve your art or skill in any way

OK ic I have some water color pencils that look cool when you, well, put water on it. BUTT
( Y )
I don't know how to apply them properly. I draw what I want first, then I wet it in directions with my fine brushes. How do I actually use them?

>>
>>2460912
ya draw on the outline of the drawing with the dry pencil then with a dampened brush you spread the color and stuff.
But I could focus less on coloring and more on actual drawing and structure because so far, I don't really like what I'm looking at... and my neck aches.

just.... stop drawing

What does /ic/ think of sculpting?

Did you know that due to recent events the market for little plastic fantasy men is opening up pretty well?
19 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
irl sculpting is hard, the medium is stubborn and won't lose mass when you will it. I thought It'd be more intuitive, but fuck no.

>Did you know that due to recent events the market for little plastic fantasy men is opening up pretty well?

Sounds like a dead end, when you account for 3D printing. A million people can order the same figurine (dl the print data for free even), can print tweaked game characters etc. while a thousand artists sell nothing. If you manage to make a name for yourself early on you can perhaps be the go-to artist on some internet site for generic sculptures for quite a while, but you'll be an exception.

Then you have of course the snobs, who want one of a kind, but those don't differ from what sculpture market always was and plastic won't satisfy them.

Comission work is how it'll look like for most people in the end. Just like illustration.

I'd say if you aim for trad sculpting you cover snobs, if digital go make assets for something biugger, than just the sum of shapes you commit to red clay.

I don't have one folder. Art has been part of my life too long to be able to organize everything nicely.
It's spread around multiple harddisks and in all sorts of folders. You can probably find art in my porn folders and porn in my art folders.

Can you draw while lying down?

>>
I can if I'm on my back and I have a hard surface (clipboard, tablet etc..)
chest down or sideways I can't though.
>>
>>2457502

I do all the time, mostly while watching tv, but it's pretty clear it's not an effective way to draw. You can't use your whole arm if you are on your stomach and are still pretty limited on your back.

Can we talk about tagging your art? What are some good tags to use?

I tend to do all the basic ones, "art", "artists on tumblr", if it's digital or not, etc. But unless it's a specific piece of fanart, what else do you throw at the wall? Trees, humans, OC, landscape, lineart? Do people search tags like that on Tumblr?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Colors.
>>
You could go 'painting', 'concept art', 'illustration'. You could describe what's in the picture itself, 'mountains', 'forest', 'lake'. 'crowd', 'cityscape' 'landscape', etc. You could describe the mood, 'dark', 'warm', 'mysterious', etc.

If you want to just tag the hell out of it, just be as descriptive as possible, tagging each individual thing. In my experience, tumblr's search engine is pretty weak, so tagging it with whatever you can will probably help more people find it.
>>
>>2461470

I constantly hear that only the first five count on Tumblr - if that's the case what's the point of the rest?
