If you actually believe in something being art, then that's morally sound, but if you attention whore with garbage nobody likes besides your circle of circlejerk buddies and associates please at least don't insist that others see things your way. hey everyone,
so I talked to my friends dad the other day and he had informed me he owned an auto shop, and wants a bright colorful mural on the side of it.. I have some experience of doing murals around my city, and so he asked me if I would be interested in doing it.. and I told him if I could have complete creative control over it I would do it for just the cost of materials.

I already do them around the city, so its not like its going to be the first step for more jobs around the city for then.
this just involves doing an entire wall, for free... for how the customer wants it.. I cant really even use it in a portfolio because its literally just going to be a billboard ad.

How did the artists of the past draw animals correctly if they didn't have a template like a photo?
Did they just watch animals for a long time and sketched stuff up until they got it right or what? How did they manage to capture the anatomy with e.g. eagle fluttering wings?

They didn't. No artist could draw the limbs of a galloping horse correctly before photography. Some animal movement is possible to study and capture without the aid of photography, but when it comes to really fast actions it's simply not possible.

I already made this thread like 6 months ago, but since I haven't improved at all, let's try again. How do you approach hair? Last time the replies I got were "it's hair so you can do whatever you want" but they always look horrible to me. Short hair is somewhat approachable even though I'm shit at that too, long hair is death and murder every time I try.

I find a good trick is to simply the hair into hair tufts. Look for patterns or forms and box in multiple hairs into tufts. Next assess where the light is coming from. Consider if the hair is matte or shiny? If you're drawing you want to use both a blunt pencil like 2B+ on shadows and to define the tufts and a sharp pencil like HB where the sharp light is and to define individual strands. Avoid drawing too many stray hairs, they usually clutter up your drawing if you do.
I don't have any good tips for painting hair, but i guess you just block in the colors and draw strands afterwards.
I think generally "less is more" applies to hair.

I recently finished Will Terrell's People Drawing series and it was pretty fucking comfy just watching him draw and listening to his journey and advice as an artist. Do you all know anything like this? Not purely instructional but kind of a mixed bag of subjects from talented, intelligent, articulate artists.
