Let's try something new in oekaki. Let's do some art trades!
>wot is art trade?
An art trade is where you ask for a request, and "pay" for it by doing a request for the anon who does your request.
It's basically where 2 anons do a request for each other.
>WHAT DO?
1: Link something revealing your artistic power level.
2: Post name and reference of what you are requesting.
3: Discuss specifics, ex. are we doing a fullbody or just a portrait, quick sketch etc.
ADVICE:
1: Stick to trades with people around your powerlevel. If someone far below your level asks for a drawing, either refuse, or give them a quickeasy sketch, that way you're not wasting much effort on an exchange that isn't worth it. Or you can be a nice guy and give him a full drawing anyways, your choice.
2: Make work in progress posts to let the other anon know you're committed to completing the exchange.
Cheers~

Requesting: A fullbody sketch of my OC Greengrill, wearing a skirt in a way that it reveals a lot of leg, but no pantsu.

Alright then looks like I'll just wait for someone better to come around :^)
OP this thread comes off as desperate, demanding, and really pretentious.
>>504409
>waah shit artists who started a week ago should have "equal" trades with people who have been doing it for years waah.
Stfu faggot
This is not a request thread. I actually expect to get something at least "okay" in return. If I didn't care about what I received, then I wouldn't be doing art trades, i'd be doing requests. I don't have high standards for what I receive, just don't be a total noob and we're fine.
The thing is noobs should KNOW that their work is worth less than more practiced artists, and should have the common courtesy to either not ask for a trade with experienced artists, or at least give more to sweeten the deal, but in my experience they never do this, because noobs just want the gibs me dats.
>>504411
ya sure it's free? I could whip up something quick, cmaaan, request me.
>>504415
>noob
is this /b/ or are you actually just an obnoxious middleschool anime club president
It's hilarious this is coming from king ~noob~ himself. What, you think your art is ~good~ just because you don't draw stick figures now? Obviously some artists have more practice than others but what good is it if you draw for years and don't have the improvement to show for it? It doesn't matter. You think you can just judge all other art based on your ~objective~ tastes? You're such an entitled brat. Your art looks like shit 5th grade weebs draw. There's nothing wrong with wanting art trades from certain people but you're so fedora about all of it, you need to rethink what art is. I'm /out/ enjoy being a shit person.
>>504438
You do realize that even if you say my art is shit, there is no way it's as shit as a beginner artist, and so my argument still stands.
In fact, let me be an autistic kid and break this down logically.
Premise 1: An art trade should strive to be fair, or at least somewhat fair, and definitely shouldn't be too unfair.
Premise 2: Newbs artwork are worth little to no value.
Premise 3: experienced artist's artworks are worth some value.
Premise 4: If a newb and an experienced artist trade, the newb is getting something of some value, and the experienced artist is getting something of little to no value.
Premise 5: This is a trade that is uneven. Too uneven, and too unfair.
Premise 6: Experienced artists should deny trading with newb artists, unless they are okay with doing trades that are too uneven, and too unfair.
Try attacking any of these premises instead of being an emotional fuckwit.
/i/ is a board for drawing for the sake of drawing, regardless of skill. The quality of art varies wildly, but its value is very much subjective. Attempting to be some kind of arbiter is just fucking dumb.
As an aside you're drawings are about on par with mine, and mine are doodoo-tier.
I mean I thought this thread was dead, and while I don't disagree with my original position, after a couple weeks staying here I've come to realize art trades are probably just too srs and business like for such a lighthearted board. I do think I probably shouldn't have mentioned my advice, even if I do still believe it is good advice. Tired of uneven trades.
>I do actually want to do trades if anyone is still up for it though btw.
This part here is just me arguing for the sake of argument.
>implying there are no objective standards in art and that everything is purely subjective.
>implying that even if art was purely subjective, my subjective experience couldn't still be that inexperienced artists artworks are worth far less than my own.
Don't get me wrong, I save art on the basis of whether or not I like the piece, not on it's quality. Sometimes that means that baddies can make pieces that I actually feel are worth saving. The problem is that this is almost never the case. I don't think I've had a single situation in which I've traded with a baddie in which I felt like I got a good deal, so it's only natural for me to be averse to trading with baddies. I don't mean any harm or insult by this, it's just that I actually have something to lose in the exchange unlike them.
>The quality of art varies wildly, but its value is very much subjective
>As an aside you're drawings are about on par with mine, and mine are doodoo-tier.
If art is just subjective, how is it that you can say that my art is on par with your art? How is it that you can compare 2 things that are subjective to another and claim they are objectively equal? Could it be there are objectively recognizable characteristics of "doodoo" tier art? Hmmmmm
>Attempting to be some kind of arbiter is just fucking dumb.
>As an aside you're drawings are about on par with mine, and mine are doodoo-tier.
Aren't you literally being an arbiter by saying my art is on par with yours and that yours is doodoo?
>>504394
Are writers welcome? I cannot draw for the life of me. I can help create character bio's and backstories that sound quite credible.
Or if you want I can just do some poetry and short prose.
ugh posting too much cancer.
>>506076
Hmm okay i'll see but it depends, I might refuse, not used to literature to art trades. So what do you want me to draw?
gone to sleep, very tired, i'll respond tomorrow
>>506076
Maybe, have you read the greeks?
so are we gonna start trading or what? post your works, faggots
>>506053
it has merit though, I mean keep your range wide yeah but it'd be nice to trade with a peer. a learning experience. maybe other anons decide who should pair with who instead of the traders.
or whatever goes if you don't care yourself
>>506076
that sounds cool, not sure how it'd go down but worth a try
>>506518
>asks people to post work
>doesn't post work
I mean I actually already posted my work above
>>506520
I know, I meant the others
don't want it to a thread of just two people
>>504411
i can see you put effort into this, its good
great job anon
>>504394
DUUUDE YES
>>506075
Art trades aren't impossible for a lighthearted board, you just shouldn't expect to get something great in return. Sperging about it and fucking up your own thread doesn't help and as another anon mentioned, makes you look entitled as fuck. Art isn't 100% subjective either and >>504411 isn't great but based on their response they did give it to you for "free" which again, makes you look incredibly childish.
Also, this board is slow as fuck so good luck getting anything. >>508663 delivered and it only took about a month.
>>508663
wow that's pretty darn cute. thank you! It's really quite good, definitely a new favorite. So wait you want me to draw that girl above? Do you have any other references of her? Thanks again btw, I'm really happy with it. If I ever start printing things again i'll make a cutout of it and put it on my desk.
>>508671
>makes you look entitled as fuck.
Well that might be because I am actually entitled to it. Are you saying I am not entitled to getting art of near-equal value to what I give?
>>508702
You haven't given anything yet. You made a thread asking for art of your OC and when you got something subpar you spent many long paragraphs bitching about it. And no, you aren't entitled to getting art of near-equal value of what you give. You're on /i/. Have some self awareness, for christ's sake.
>>508723
ok but I do have the right to refuse to trade with people who won't give me something of near equal value to what I give, and exclusively trade with those who will give me a fair trade.
>>508724
> If someone far below your level asks for a drawing, either refuse, or give them a quickeasy sketch, that way you're not wasting much effort on an exchange that isn't worth it.
I mean, sure. Follow your own advice. It seems like the anon gave it to you for "free" anyways.
>>508723
>You made a thread asking for art of your OC and when you got something subpar you spent many long paragraphs bitching about it
no I didn't, when did I do anything of the sort? I actually told the guy who gave me the free thing this: "ya sure it's free? I could whip up something quick, cmaaan, request me."
I was never a dick to the guy who gave me the free thing, I offered to draw him something.
Im shit at drawing but if someone could draw my boy here I'd love you.
>You haven't given anything yet.
No one has asked for anything yet lol
>You made a thread asking for art of your OC
Art trade thread, where we trade, not request.
>And no, you aren't entitled to getting art of near-equal value of what you give.
by saying that i'm not entitled to get an equal trade, are you saying I, anyone else on oekaki, or in fact society in general ought not make equal trades? When I said entitlement, I meant that I deserve it. Of course I still need to be aware and make sure i'm getting a fair deal, but that doesn't mean i'm any less deserving of or entitled to getting a fair deal.
>You're on /i/. Have some self awareness, for christ's sake.
The fact this is Oekaki doesn't change what justice is, and /i/ is not a charity.
no wonder your Da has no followers you fucking hack
>>508739
>no followers
lolo check again,I bet you don't even have a place to put your art.
>>508745
Lol no worries. I'll get back to you once I get around to it in a few days. I'll just have to drop my power level to match you.
>>508746
FUck i meant this one anon
>>508746
>i'll just have to drop my power level to match you.
wow, how humble of you
>>508746
>holier-than-thou
>this self absorbed
>argues with himself when he stops getting (you)s
>lazy on top of it
This thread is a mess but at least I know to filter you
>>508746
I guess this is what I get for not using a tripcode. I didn't actually say that, it was some other guy who put that as my name
>>508770
It's hilarious how that guy passed as you so easily because that's actually how you look
>>508779
How do we even know that wasn't him? (you)s dont carry across different browsers.
>>508779
The only ad-hominem i used in this entire thread was "Stfu faggot". I think you've built me up to be a worse person than I actually am. Do you even know what i'm actually arguing for?
>>508780
why the fuck would I sabotage my own thread? I'd have nothing to gain from that. I didn't even want to keep arguing, random anons keep bringing up points and so I defend myself.
Thinking about it, I don't think you all have a problem with me not working with noobs. You just have a problem with me saying you shouldn't work with noobs, because it seems mean and arrogant. I'll admit I could have worded it better, or should have just left it out, because it does sound bad.
It isn't actually bad though, it's perfectly fair to deny trading with someone if you don't like their art.
ah I get it now, you guys think i'm some sort of arrogant narcissist. Humor me for just a bit. If I actually am better at art than people who just started art a couple months ago, then me saying i'm better at art is actually no exaggeration of my ability, right? Quite the contrary, it's simply the truth, and by definition wouldn't be arrogant, because arrogance is defined as "having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities."
I want you to know something, I never asked for this out of vanity. I'm just pretty sure I have a good understanding of myself and my own ability, and so I ask for things that people of my ability can go for. I asked that everyone else out of the same humble understanding of themselves, ask too for what their ability deserves.
It also happens to be the most fair and ironically humble way of doing things, and is the whole point of an art trade. If you didn't care about being fair, you would just do stuff for free.
