When you think of British divers, everyone automatically thinks of Tom Daley, because he's worked on selling his whole backstory to the press, between his father dying, being bullied as a kid, publicly coming out as gay, etc. He has a brand that he keeps up, and fair play to him, athletes generally have a short age window before they have to retire and do something else, so he's set himself up for some sort of media career afterwards. When it comes to actual medals won, he's lagging behind those other guys, and this was reflected in the 2017 New Years honours. Chris Mears and Jack Laugher both were given an MBE for their service to diving, but poster-boy Tom wasn't acknowledged at all.
