What possible egotistical motive could a bee have for sacrificing itself for the betterment of the hive? Does altruism exist in the animal kingdom?

Bees don't have egotistical motives or personal desires. They evolved to sacrifice themselves for the survival of the queen, it's in their DNA.
bees are almost pure hedonists and following their instincts makes them feel good

Where do we draw the line? Is it possible that humans are also slaves to their biology?

>Does altruism exist in the animal kingdom?
Yes. Read "The Selfish Gene"

>Egotistical motive
Bees lack ego entirely. Bees aren't individuals but exist as a larger super organism. Ascribing "egotistical motive" to a bee is like ascribing egotistical motive to your toenails.

Singular bees are disposable. The problems begin to occur when entire hives are destroyed. The hive, is, essentially, the 'body' of the superorganism. It is specifically engineered by the bees for efficient storage and breeding from not so much sweat and blood since I don't think they have either, but spit.
When a bee sacrifices itself, it is only 'egotistical' in the sense that it is defending itself rather over another lifeform.
