Was there an Arab leader more based than Nasser?
>>
Utterly useless leader. Lead Egypt right down into the toilet.

Objectively, it's hard to argue with the House of Saud being the best managers in the Arab world.
>>
>>300573
Get out wahhabi scum
>>
>>300577
You seem to forget Nasser was the next thing to a communist, and utterly destroyed the Egyptian economy, in addition to leading it into multiple disastrous wars.
>>
>>300573
spotted the sharia cocksucker.
>>
I bet you have a che guevara tshirt you dirty communist scum.

>wanted to modernize the country
>nationalized the Suez canal
>fucked the Brits in the ass
>was a pan-Arab nationalist
>opposed Israel on every corner

I don't know m8, the dude was pretty badass.
>>
Just finished http://www.amazon.com/Six-Days-War-Making-Modern/dp/0345461924 yesterday. If Nasser had any honour he would have killed himself 20 times over.
>>
>>300589
He turned Egypt into a Soviet colony. Effectively the whole economy was nationalized, and predictably it produced just about nothing after that. Egypt became totally dependant on free US wheat to feed its population, in a country that was historically an exporter.
>>
>>300573

I dated a girl from saudi arabia who lost a cousin in a house fire because she was not allowed to leave the burning building without being accompanied by a man; this happened in saudi arabia.

OP, you seem to have gotten that Ba'athist scum confused with an actual effective Arab leader. It's a common mistake.

Here, I'll post a picture of an actual good Arab leader for you.
>>
>>300589
>>opposed Israel on every corner
>a good thing at fucking all

And how did those wars turn out again? Oh right, Egypt got its ass kicked horrifically every single time. Not as bad as Syria, mind you, but for fuck's sake Israel occupied the Sinai up until they decided to play nice and give it back.
>>
>>300647
Undoubtedly the most effective leader in the Arab world, but unfortunately he couldn't insulate his country from the crazyness all around, and wound up taking a lot of 'bad' decisions (to go along with the other Arab states) he knew were bad decisions because he probably would have been deposed otherwise.
>>
>>300697
Thankfully, Black September plus the Ba'athist defeat in the Yom Kippur War let him buck that trend for good. Hell, he even secretly warned the Israelis that Egypt and Syria were about to have another go for all the good it did.
>>
>>300733
It's a shame the Israelis didn't have the good sense to immediately hand the Palestinian territories back to Hussain (on the condition he sign a final settlement with the Israelis and do everything he could to reign in irredentists). There'd be peace in the Middle East today.
>>
>>300764
Jordan didn't want the thankless fucks anymore. That bridge got burned in Black September; once the PLO tried to take over Jordan, King Hussein kicked them out of his country and told them to fuck off.
>>
>>300597
>predictably it produced just about nothing after that. Egypt became totally dependant on free US wheat to feed its population, in a country that was historically an exporter.

Time for you to dig up those sources mate.
>>

yeah totally bro!

the secret to peace in the middle-east can be found only on an obscure mongolian paper folding marketplace
>>
>>300551
He was based. That's why America/Israel destroyed him. He was a moderniser and you can't allow that.
>>
>>300828
>America destroyed him
America interceded on his behalf in the Suez Crisis.

>Israel destroyed him
After he gave them every opportunity to. You can hardly blame the Israelis for destroying his political movement in wars when he's the one who started every one of those wars.
>>
Isn't this the fucktard who lost every war ever?
>>
>>300843
>he's the one who started every one of those wars.
haha oh wow
>>
>>300800
I'm thinking in the wake of the 1967 war. Israel knew Hussein didn't want to fight, he just wanted to hold onto the West Bank. They should have let him have it.

The 67 War pretty much destroyed the Egyptian Economy.
>>
>>300807
http://www.ijhssnet.com/journals/Vol_3_No_10_Special_Issue_May_2013/3.pdf

Economy was pretty much completely nationalized under Nasser, and they borrowed heavily to provide the capital to build up an industrial base for import substitution. But these state industries were hopelessly corrupt and inefficient, and when Egypt ran out of credit economic growth came to a total halt.

The same story as every other 'socialist' developing country in 20th century.

Unlike the prosperous economies of capitalist countries?

I remember the US debt has been pretty fucking high, and it's hardly decreasing.
>>
>>301092
U.S. has simultaneously low interest rates and low inflation, they can handle debt and are indeed extremely (!) prosperous. You're stupid, go back to your anarchist literature circle.
>>
>>301092
ISI has been pretty much proven to be a failure. The idea that a sizeable internal market can drive industrialization/capitalization doesn't seem to be the case when examples like India and China both gave up pursuing these policies and veered to the opposite direction. And Egypt (even if it had suceeded with Pan-Arabism) had a far smaller market that it had access to (plus it's currently close to cash strapped under Sisi Mouse).

military dictatorship isn't necessarily about winning wars. nasser and co. came to power because they believed that the military as an institution was the only force in egypt that could reform the country. to them king farouk was corrupt, the muslim brotherhood wanted shariah, as usual, and commies, workers and students wanted to turn full commie. nasser wanted to find a "third way" that would modernize the country without the social upheaval or political gridlock that preceded him

Egypt before Nasser was a multicultural, modern, strongly europeanized country, it had a thriving minority thanks to enterprising minorities such as the Greeks, then came Nasser and Egypt became another socialist shithole.

So why does america want him out so bad?
Did he use chemical weapons or not? If he did does that mean he should be ousted? And why is russia supporting him?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chadian%E2%80%93Libyan_conflict
>>
>>303033
>So why does america want him out so bad?

Because he is buddies with Russian and Iran.

>Did he use chemical weapons or not?

Probably. But so did ISIS.

> And why is russia supporting him?

Because they literally have no friends in that region of the Middle East other than Syria and also they have port facilities there.
>>
>>303033
Syria has always been a Russian ally
The Russians have had navel facilities in Tartus since the 70s, it's the only Mediterranean supply base they have left.
>>
>>303033
The US wants him gone because he is a key Iranian ally and he (previously) lead a stable country that was not aligned with the US. He's also posed a political farce to Israel and Saudi Arabia, both US allies.

As for chemical weapons, I don't believe the government used them. The video from summer 2013 came out one day after UN inspectors arrived to investigate chemical weapons use. Why would a leader, with so many countries looking for a reason to oust him, use chemical weapons when the UN is present?

Russia supports Assad because Syria and Russia have had a strong relationship since the Cold War and Syria hosts a Russian naval base in Latakia. The two countries have been made allies as a result of American and EU animosity towards each.
>>
>>303033
>Did he use chemical weapons or not?
No he did not.
Even the UN admits that it was the """"moderate"""" rebels that did those chemical attacks (which curiously happened on government controlled territory)

>So why does america want him out so bad?
>>303091 explains it pretty well.
Plus there was the planned pipeline that linked Qatar to Turkey which would allow to feed energy hungry europe. Assad was against it.
>>
>>303032
>europeanized

Egypt pre-Nasser was the bootheel of the British Empire. It had no control of its own institutions and it own leaders were impotent and governed at the convenience of the British who did what they wanted in the name of their foreign policy goals.

It was only Europeanized in the upper strata of its royalty, bureaucracy and businessmen. The entire parliamentary system was dysfunctional due to cynical manipulation by the monarchy and by the British. The reason that Nasser and the FCC would reign and not a liberal democracy is because that sort of system had been thoroughly undermined by various parties including the kings of egypt that it was impossible to govern.

Meanwhile everyone else was dirt poor illiterate mostly agricultural workers (either as landless seasonal labor or working tiny plots) or urban workers. To the average Egyptian whether they were wafd, communist, muslim brother or young egypt knew that the monarchy and the parliamentarian system had to go. This is why you had the rise of these militant wings of the wafd/mb/young egypt close to the end. No one at that point had any belief or faith in the system and rightfully knew meaningful action could only be achieved by force and street protests since the system was about guaranteeing those in power and was not a means of achieving reform.

Nasser was just the first one to actually overthrow and topple the system.

1. He's a Baathist, naturally opposed to Wahhabism. Therefore, he wouldn't do this

2. A Shia, Iranian-backed government was installed by the US. Assad wouldn't send fighters to Iraq to destabilize an ally of one of his best allies.
