No, the highest honor was death in hand to hand combat. Being taken out by a single arrow is kind of pathetic, considering Diomedes got shot through the foot too, but basically just kept on going.
The whole point of Achilles' death was the tragedy of it, that he was the greatest and most valiant of the Greeks, but he got taken out by a literal coward, not even face to face so he would have the chance to defend himself, from a distance.
