Why are people afraid to admit Hitler was a socialist?

>guaranteed employment
>national healthcare
>organized labor
>welfare systems
>collective ownership of industry
>nazi literally stands for "national socialist"
Were his social policies really that far overshadowed by nationalism and traditionalist rhetoric that to call him a socialist is invalid?
Or is he just a boogeyman?

Is he really so taboo to associate with socialism when other social/communist/marx derivative systems like Soviet Russia or China killed so many more through actual policy?

It's in the name, you fool. Of course, it wasn't pure socialism; fascist state theories and liberal management techniques remained in vogue.
>>
Say what you will about the tenets of National Socialism but at least its an ethos
>>
>>293455
>>293463
I'm not disputing he was a socialist.

Socialism is still very popular today though, and many people are very quick to deride the idea that they share the same motivating political ideology with Hitler.
>>
>>293452
>collective ownership of industry
What was Messerschmitt, Krupp, IG Farben, Mauser, Fokker, Porshe? Oh yes, private companies.

The US economy was more state run during WWII than the Nazi one.
>>
>>293452
Because none of those things are socialist.

Socialism means finding and using an alternative economic system to capitalism, and you can't call what he did finding an alternative, because he was allied with extremely wealthy industrialists, and promised them monopolies.
>>
>>293452
Because welfare isn't socialism desu senpai. It's like calling Reagan an anarchist.

Oh look, another OP with no idea what he's talking about. Just the kind of thread we need here.

It's not like Hitler demonized the Socialists and Communists for 20 some-odd years and had them shot or anything. Why would anyone argue that he was what he publically loathed?
>>
>>293452
A lot of people aren't afraid, a lot of people legitimate don't know anything about Nazi domestic policy other than

>They built the Autobahn
>They founded VW
>They had tough laws on both smoking and animal abuse

This is because when talking about the Nazis people much prefer to discuss their policies on race, and WW2

It's just conservative blame-shifting.

Weren't they corrupt?

Socialists want to destroy classes
Hitler wanted to unite them

Cause unlike the USSR & friends they didn't even try to collectivise industries at any point, they actually privatized them

About as corrupt as the Nazis were.
>>

All of these examples fall under fascism. Fascism borrows a lot from marxist ideology.

Sydicalist too. And what is syndicalism? Just another form of socialism.

Why does /pol/ feel such a need to spam this thread all the time? He literally wasn't. Business in Germany was still profit oriented, the labour unions where turned into toothless "worker's councils" and nothing is owned "collectively" if you have no say in how it runs (as in a dictatorship).

>>293466

Nigga please.

>>
>>294286
Yeah, but you said marxist. Also, calling Hitler a fascist is a bit of a stretch imo, lr at least somewhat imprecise. Especially when we're talking about the syndcalist influence, as there was hardly any syndicalist movement in germany. As I said, german social democracy seems to be the biggest influence in that regard.
>>
>>294287
>and nothing is owned "collectively" if you have no say in how it runs (as in a dictatorship).
You could say the same about actual socialist countries, just saying.
>>
Hitler was as much of a socialist as the Holy Roman Empire was Roman.
>>
>>293452
>means of production are completely private-owned
>socialist
Do you not see the contradiction?
>>
>>293452
1. Industry was privately owned during NSDP rule.
2. The state control over labour totally undermines any point of organized labour.

On the whole Nazi Germany was about as socialist as the USA given the only vaguely socialist things about them are welfare and commitment to full employment.
>>
>>294287
you are just making a case for Nazi Germany not being *communist*
>>
Hitler was a socialist because the nazis were "national socialists", just like the Kim dynasty are pro-democracy because they rule the Democratic People's Republic
>>
>>293452
Because murrican stormfags believe that socialism = communism and communism = evil

Hitler hated Marx, see Mein Kampf. Also, he can be socialist (after all, there's a lot of socialisms in history, even before Marx), but not the commun socialist of these days that have some Marx influence.

Also, Marx in his communist manifesto wrote about others "socialisms". Read about the "german, or 'true' socialism", it is exactly the same as nazism.

https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/communist-manifesto/ch03.htm

"To preserve this class is to preserve the existing state of things in Germany. The industrial and political supremacy of the bourgeoisie threatens it with certain destruction — on the one hand, from the concentration of capital; on the other, from the rise of a revolutionary proletariat. “True” Socialism appeared to kill these two birds with one stone. It spread like an epidemic.

It proclaimed the German nation to be the model nation, and the German petty Philistine to be the typical man. To every villainous meanness of this model man, it gave a hidden, higher, Socialistic interpretation, the exact contrary of its real character. It went to the extreme length of directly opposing the “brutally destructive” tendency of Communism, and of proclaiming its supreme and impartial contempt of all class struggles. With very few exceptions, all the so-called Socialist and Communist publications that now (1847) circulate in Germany belong to the domain of this foul and enervating literature."

He was Keynesian, which to some looks like socialist, I guess.

They cultivated a socialist ethos for Germans but weren't socialist in the full economic sense. But I guess really high employment is what socialism aspires to and Nazi Germany attained that.
