Looks very eastern, I wouldn't be surprised if it were from the far mid east or even China. I couldnt find an exact match, however my guess would be something like proto-arabic or farsi something like that

Received it from a friend who bought it in some souvenir shop in Egypt, sometime in the 80's. Had a sticker saying "Made in Egypt", but this lends no credibility to the markings being a real language. Your picture is the closest looking to writing I've come across.

No. It's very likely that someone just wrote some signs with the intention of having them look vaguely like hieroglyphs without actually knowing any.
