Tell me about haratins as an ethnic group. Who are they most similar to, how have they effected history, are black Americans and Blatinos their western analogs?
>>2869397
>are black Americans and Blatinos their western analogs?
Not even just analogs, they are racially closely related as well as sharing a history of enslavement. As to their contributions to history, they have been slight to say the least. They're not even the dominant group in Mauretania despite being the majority there.
>>2869419
Mauritanians president doesn't look 100% Arab.
>>2869433
You can be black and Mauritanian without being a haratin, there are plenty of free blacks living there.

France helped us a lot, and because we were technically English colonists, they didn't go full bore suppression

Wrong! Spain and France both had larger armies.

Wrong! Most redcoats were conscripted convicts given basic instructions

VS
The 2 most powerful countries in Europe and a larger army an ocean away.

You think the UK had the largest army and navy on earth in 1776?
The navy was the best by then but certainly not the largest.
The army was probably not in the top 10.
The revolutionary war was stacked against the UK.
Kentucky long rifles were state of the art.
Give me just one fucking reason as a Balkanite about why I should forgive the Turk's for fucking us over for half a millennia, raping our women by the hundreds of thousands and destroying our cultural identity (our identity today is basically fuck Turk's, ffs)

You never had a cultural identity. "Serbia" is as modern as Syria, There was never an ebin "muh Srbije" country before the 19th century.

It's weird to think that one day many things I care about (history, politics, certain vidya games, ect) I won't care at all about. But it's worth it to be in Heaven.
How were people operated in the ancient and medieval times? And how did people attend wounds? For example if someone lost an eye what did they do?
bandaged them up and hoped for the best, mostly
if you were lucky you might get someone who knows traditional remedies who would put some mashed up plants or something on your wound, and if you were really extra lucky, that mashed up plant or whatever might actually have some anti-bacterial properties instead of just being a meme

Nazis still massacred more, and in a much more deliberate manner, so the "muh Stalin" comparisons are moot. Gulags were summer camps compared to the nazi camps, mainly because a gulag wasnt a death sentence per say. You were at least given a sentence of 5 years or something in a gulag, and it wasnt this kafkaesque horroshow of being thrown in this brutal slave camp with this uncertain sword of Damocles of death hanging over your head. A camp built with the purpose of killing you.

Hello /his/.
Lately I was wondering, why the fuck Brazil didn't end up like USA, but turned into such shithole. Didn't they have similar beginings? Both were colonies of european country that gained independence thru war, and both had big imigration of people from old world. So why the fuck are they not as developed and important to rest of the world as USoA.
Meme answers also welcomed.
Protestant work ethic.
USA was independent in 1783 while Brazil got his independence in 1820.
In 1840 USA have 10 universities(Harvard,Cambrige etc, while Brazil got just one (USP), Portuguese Brazilians needed to go to coimbra to study, while in USA those universities was good enough for them.
In 1900 Brazil have a shy industry, while USA with Henry Ford others, have a heavy industry see how slow is Brazil in developing?
I would argue that their beginnings were very different, actually.
Excluding the fact that both were colonies, & that they both revolted to gain independence, the similarities end there.
Brazil founded an empire following their break from Portugal/Britain- an empire that lasted close to 70 years. The United States was founded on Republican virtues with the goal of revising the government from within by appealing to the masses in every way possible. No such goals existed during the era of the Empire of Brazil.
Another issue was the fact that people were not loyal to the Empire or the Emperor. There was administrative turmoil & political dissensions following the establishment of the Empire. There were both liberal & conservative sides of politics, & there was an attempt of republican secession within a decade of gaining their independence, & 4 more major revolts/wars within its first 25 years. The US had very few problems with keeping the country together following the initial revolution.
Yet another difference is that Brazil was warring through out this period. In its first 58 years, Brazil had fought in three major foreign wars, one of which is still the biggest in Brazil's history. The US was focused on development, progress & economic security in its initial decades, while Brazil faced years of stagnation & cripplingly exhausting wars.
It wasn't until 1889 that the initial "republic" was founded- & it was simply a military dictatorship with full control over the elections & the press. 5 years later, facing an economic & a military crisis, Brazil has another revolution & a true Republican government is established.
It's 1894. The US had its republican independence in 1776, resolved all of its major internal in 1864 & never faces the threat of its union disolving again. Brazil is 120 years behind the US by now. Even now, Brazil still faces civilian & military revolts, as a result of political, social & financial instability, through the 1920's.
I've heard it mentioned off-hand in several books that North Italy and South Italy had a fairly significant regional divide, with the Northerners looking down on the Southerners (seeing them as a separate people) and economically exploiting the region like a colony. Which also often involved exaggerating cultural and genetic differences for political reasons. Are there any good sources on this? How badly were southerners actually treated? Is there any truth to those claims?
Think of all the centers of art and trade in Italy during the city-states period
Genoa
Venice
Florence
Milan
Bologna
Verona
Rome
Where are they all located.
>>2866449
>had
Nigger, the divide is very real and still exists. Northern Italians see southerners as little better than niggers, there's a reason a part based on the idea of the North separating from the south is so powerful and well-supported there.
>>2866449
Can confirm. I was in Italy and northeners say that Italy's southern border is Bologna. Everything south of it is Africa.

When did the United States become an oligarchy?
Democracy in the US probably peaked in the 1970s. Deregulation and the decline of the organized labor allowed for a rise in income/wealth inequality and the return of the dominance of the financial/business elite in influence over politicians. In the media, the rise of political punditry (allowed by Reagan axing the Fairness Doctrine) has created entire """news""" networks that are mouthpieces for plutocrats. The expenses of modern campaigns has also been a place for the wealthy to influence politicians, something which expanded after the Citizens United decision in 2010.
