Yeah definitely a lot of variances but Muslims and Jews defer to a single entity while Christians have the added obligation keep the memory of the sacrifice and revere it which to them may be the same but to the Muslims and Jews is not. Islamic theology itself is probably the most tolerant even if it may have not always been the case in its practical implementation.

Cultural relativism isn't really about that though.

It's the acknowledgement that what you think is valuable is subjective.

For example, I know Canada has a better quality of life by some objective measures, but I value the history and culture in my own country more than having a bigger apartment in a place I perceive as bland.

There may be a sense in which you can measure objectively what is better or worse, but the system of value you attach to things is relative.

It has a lot of the same problems as Guns, Germs, and Steel in that Diamond leaves out lots of things to make a point, and it's obvious he's writing out of his depth. It pissed off a bunch of anthropologists enough that a bunch of them put together a response book called Questioning Collapse to discuss some of the main things he got wrong. The main focus of the book is correcting some of his factual errors and reframing his scenarios to show that "collapse" isn't really a word that describes most of them.
