What do you think the dancing plague of 1518 was caused by. It just blows my mind that people would do something like this
Kevin Bacon found a time machine and taught the Strasbourgers how to lighten up and have fun.
Ergotamine from Ergot fungi growing on their wheat. Caused psychosis since Ergotamine is what LSD was originally synthesized from.
It's caused by rheumatic fever
I'm a complete layman when it comes to religion, and every time I've looked into the following questions, I either get further confused or recieve biased answers:
Why wasn't Christianity focused in the middle east, the area it was written in and by?
How come the Jews are the chosen ones? With this mindset, how do some people who aren't deal with this?
What language was the original manuscript in?
Does Jesus have a bloodline?

>Why wasn't Christianity focused in the middle east, the area it was written in and by?
It was until Islam took over. Constantinople and Rome were considered far less important than Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria.
>How come the Jews are the chosen ones? With this mindset, how do some people who aren't deal with this?
This is simply a Judaism/Old Covenant thing. Christianity equalized Jews and Gentiles under the New Covenant (all people are equal under Christ)
>What language was the original manuscript in
Probably Aramaic (the lingua franca of the levant)
>Does Jesus have a bloodline
Canon scripture makes no mention of it.
>>2905174
>Why wasn't Christianity focused in the middle east, the area it was written in and by?
Christ's message has been for a global audience since the beginning when he command His disciples to preach the Gospel "to the ends of the earth."
>How come the Jews are the chosen ones?
Paul teaches us that a true Jew is one inwardly; meaning those that honor God and this includes accepting His Son. Those who accept Christ are chosen.
>What language was the original manuscript in?
The earliest manuscripts we have are in Koine.
>Does Jesus have a bloodline?
All Christians are washed in His blood and carry Christ within us.
>>2905174
>What language was the original manuscript in?
Old Testament was in Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic; New Testament was in Koine Greek
>Does Jesus have a bloodline?
As anon above me said, there's no mention of it in the Bible; it's only a hypothesis
This is I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream for LARPers. Literally the most depressing book ever conceived. Even Harlan Ellison's novel ends with just one person condemned to eternal torment instead of countless billions and therefore is more uplifting.

It's true though. Christianity is a religion for masochists.

Redpill me on the Japanese royal family during ww2 /his/. How much of a role did people like Emperor Hirohito, Prince Asaka, Prince Chichibu have in the war? Was it right to completely discharge them of any crimes?
To a large extent they just went along with what the military was telling them. It's hard to say how much "power" they had because they didn't really make a serious attempt to exercise it in a way that opposed other powerful institutions.
>>2904860
Probably the single worst thing that Hirohito did was the suicide order. Japanese civilians were told all kinds of depraved stories about how U.S. marines would torture them to death if they were captured. The effect was so strong that Japanese civilians on captured islands would literally throw themselves off of cliffs in order to avoid being tortured. In one instance, Hirohito literally ordered an island filled with Japanese civilians to commit suicide rather than allow Americans to capture them, purely to maintain the fiction.
>>2904860
A lot more than popular perception dictates. There are multiple instances of Hirohito interfering in military affairs and it appears that he knew about everything. Most people cite his inaction on most things as him not knowing about it or inability to act, when really, he didn't act because he agreed with what his advisors told him. In fact, without Hirohito's interference, the Japanese attack on the Occident would have come in October rather than December.
Sarcastic entries and flamewars aside, what is the "greatest" verse in the whole bible?
"APOCALYPSIS" IS THE ONLY LEGITIMATELY CHRISTIAN BOOK WITHIN THE BIBLE; THE REST ARE JUDEOCHRISTIAN DRIVEL.
"APOCALYPSIS" ALSO HAS THE BEST PROSE FROM ALL THE BOOKS OF THE BIBLE.
Jesus wept.

Does anyone here actually have a job/advanced degrees in the field of History? If so what do you do? What period/subject do you study? How did you get your job?
Is it a field worth investing time and money into?
>>2904722
>Does anyone here actually have a job/advanced degrees in the field of History?
I have a second level degree (MA equivalent).
>If so what do you do?
I work for a local government agency that tends to local monuments and sites of historical significance. It's mostly renaissance and early modern villas and some castles and private churches, but we collaborate a lot with universities and other organizations to publish material on local history for divulgation and tourism promotion. The villas have shitloads of artistic and archival content within, so there's a lot of research going on.
What period/subject do you study?
Local history basically. I personally focus mostly on the renaissance and early modern period, but I have to deal with roman and pre-roman stuff pretty regularly.
>How did you get your job?
Public contest open to everyone qualified in history/archeology/art history and preservation.
>Is it a field worth investing time and money into?
No. I get paid peanuts and barely 10% of my class got history related jobs after graduation. I got particularly lucky in getting a job locally (relatively lucky, I managed it because I focused on local history), everyone else had to move to other cities or abroad to find a job.
You should study history because you like it more than any other subject and more than making bank. If you don't, look elsewhere.
>>2904778
Cool, are you in Britain?
What kind of public contest was involved in getting that job?
>>2905195
>Cool, are you in Britain?
No.
>What kind of public contest was involved in getting that job?
The kind where they put up a contest notice, youmail them your cv and academic records (they give you points for specific foci, I know my thesis on local history let me climb up a few spots on the ranking) to sign up, and then you and everyone else takes a written examination (essay questions). If you pass that, you get an interview too. Done that, they weight up your results and cv, the guy(s) with the highest total wins the job(s).
It's a pretty old fashioned type of selection, but hey it's public service, what did you expect?
Redpill me on the Elamites, /his/
I've never heard much about them, were they Semites? Iranians?
>>2904648
we don't know. They weren't Iranians in that they migrated there later. Probably they were more similar to Mesopotamians but had an isolate language . There are even theories that they were Dravidian , albeit unfounded
the Elamite pill was the hardest to swallow. I'll spare you guys the suffering, angst, and despair. My advice: don't look into it. You'll deeply regret it.

Did the holocaust really happened?
I've read some quite interesting theories that the holocaust never happedned ( that the ovens were made after the war, that they never found six million corpses,...)
What's your opinion on this?
>>2904287
Yes it happened. There is enormous evidence to this effect, namely where the fuck did all those Jews go if they weren't murdered?
But if you really think that it's a hoax, ask yourself this. It's been 72 years since the end of the war. The overwhelming majority of the world is pretty firmly convinced that the Holocaust happened. If it in fact did not happen, that means that someone, or many someones, have faked it all up; that in turn requires a conspiracy of colossal power to keep it going across rival political groups for the better part of a century with no end in sight. Do you really think that such a colossal conspiracy could emerge and be so all-powerful that it can stop all dissent everywhere?
>>2904297
Yes I know that these theories are just conspiracy theories. But some the most powerful people in the world are jews. This is why I don't trust to anything, because the history is written by the winners.
