What has caused liberals to become so averse to violence, when historically liberalism itself was founded on violent revolutions?
>>2936174
lol "founded on violent revolutions" try harder
Liberalism has no use for violence and brute force, that is the domain of dangerous far left and far right extremist radicals.
>>2936174
Because liberalism became the dominant ideology, there is no more need to smash things and whip out the guillotines like during the days of monarchism
What went wrong?
>>2936067
The concept was dumb from the start.
I dunno, they're national football team was pretty good.
Tito died.
What went wrong with Spain and Portugal? Why are they so irrelevant these days? Being a former empire that fell from grace is one thing, but Portugal and Spain barely matter even in their own region. Whenever European politics is the subject, it's always about Britain, Germany, Russia, and sometimes France. You'd think that there would be some residual prestige propping up the Iberian countries a little, but no, they're about as important as Finland or Serbia or Slovakia. How did they fall so much?
Pic unrelated
>>2936039
Jesus Christ that pic. Imagine if a woman had a vagina like that naturally.
> How did they fall so much?
Who knows? Could be anything.
They didnt make good successful colonies
What is the best /his/tory channel on youtube, and why is it BazBattles?
>>2936031
Baz is quite good.
Other good ones, in no real order:
*Historia Civilis
*The Great War
*Metatron
*Thegnthrand
*Scholagladiatoria
*KnyghtErrant
Mapping subset
*EmperorTigerstar
*Suomi
*KheyPard
*GalacticPenguin
*Historical Map Animator
>>2936070
>Metatron
You take that back right now.
>>2936095
Why? He's usually pretty good about citing source and whatnot.
How they ended in such antagonism?
Sunni Islam vs Shia Islam.
NATO political orbit vs. Russia/China political orbit.
Sand nigger vs sand nigger.
is it really hard to figure out..?
They've despised each other for hundreds of years, currently Saudis are the Sunni leaders and Iran is the Shia leader. Even ordinary members don't like the other group. Then you combine the proxy war currently going on with the west/saudis and russia/iran
>>2935959
>Sand nigger vs sand nigger.
Arabs vs Persians
What are some really small things that had really big, far reaching, butterfly effect type of repercussions?
>>2935861
>smokes cigarettes
>gets cancer
>dies
>idiot son Wilhelm II takes the throne
>tfw I will never live in a timeline where Frederick III never smoked, and German foreign policy wasn't retarded
>>2935861
There's at least one book claiming that most of history is due to dumb luck and random chance. I don't buy that theory, but I'd like to read the book.
A wrong turn shaped a century
>hitler initially approved a plan to send European jews to Madagascar
>plan was eventually scrapped in favor of the Final Solution because of Br*tish naval blockades
>>2935851
Source?
>>2935891

>The bank robbers wouldn't have shot hostages if the police didn't stop their escape route
>the police are to blame
>the suicide bomber wouldn't have killed himself if the west converted to islam
>the west is to blame
Yeah
>>2935825
Are you retarded? Sage
>>2935865
I'm not saying I would LIKE them to win I'm just trying to imagine alternate history. Don't get so pissy about it.
Are there any good /his/ related podcasts?
>>2935637
Off the top of my head, History of Rome, and History of Byzantium come to mind
Dan carlins hardcore history is decent but not my favorite
History of Rome
History of Byzantium
And the British history podcast are all exceptional
>>2935646
Those are the most popular two by far.
>History of Britain
>Fall of Rome Podcast (probably one of the best I've ever heard)
>12 Byzantine Emperors
>History of Ancient Greece (annoying voice but pretty solid discussion)
>The Trojan War (not really history, but good either way)
A few others get mentioned/recommended by HoByz: History of Iran and History of Iran, but I haven't listened to them so can't vouch.
Let's talk about the Wild West /his/
>>2935603
The "Wild West" was actually quite mild t-b-h. Rampant gunfighting and Indian raids weren't part of daily life.
>>2935603
Its hot
Its dry
Everyone just steals and rapes
Filled now with fundamentalists and swarthy Mexicans
Its basically American Arabia
>>2935610
There were very, very, very few Mexicans in the US before the 1960s change in immigration law. I will never understand this meme that America has always had a giant Mexican population.
Do you guys think there is a connection between veing stheistic and being intelligent?
>>2935551
not really i would see inteligent people more as being agnostic or just not sure
atheist always come across as just a wee bit over or under avarage intelegence but think themselves to be a lot higher on the ladder
no
take the view of an atheist
people who believe in religion have been raised to so
those who have distanced themselves later on have developed said distance through the way they were raised + the influence of their environment
BUT: simple-minded people have it easier accepting religion
>>2935551
Just a correlation. I've met both atheists and religious person that are smart.
>t. STEMfag
What do you think of Jordan Peterson?
CLEAN
YOUR
I believe he is an intelligent person,
but I think his popularity outweighs the merit of his thought and is ill-gotten in a manner similar to Sam Harris.
Also, I disagree with the conclusions drawn in Maps of Meaning because I find the implicit metaphysics overly anthropocentric which I consider an incomplete Notion.
which historical figures with the title "the great" are the greatest?
>>2935315
ez
Freddy 'The fuck Austrian fags, Silesia is mine" Hohenzollern is up there
>>2935347
Who?
Could America have won WW2 if they didn't exploit minorities?
How were they exploited? The worst thing I can think of is Japanese-Americans fighting while their families were inside internment camps.
>>2935216
Yes?
Minorities did fuck all during WWII
Only 700 African-Americans died
>>2935216
African Americans were almost banned from frontline service in Europe and the Pacific, so I don't see how it effected the war effort. Guess they made some pretty sick soul food as cooks though
Why is German culture so hopelessly Romantic?
And is their unbending commitment to the EU another example of their all consuming idealism?
>>2935197
High beer consumption, chemical substances in the used hops act a oestrogen like hormons, the whole society gets girlish.
Modern German culture or before Nazism German culture?
Because after Nazis came to power, romanticism and idealism of Germanic soul ceased to exist.
>>2935197
No.
