Im interested in learning about the Berber people, do you know any good sources to begin? Is it true that most of the people living in Morocco today are Berbers? Did the Arab conquests have any genetic effect on any lands at all?
the genetic effect of the arab conquest was negligible but check out these wikipedia articles for linguistic effects:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banu_Hilal
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Hilalian_Arabic_dialects
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilalian_dialects
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moroccan_Darija#Substrates
most people in morocco today speak maghrebi arabic as their first language so it would be wrong to call them berbers. if anything they are arabized berbers. Berbers are very genetically diverse in themselves though (compare malian tuaregs to Kabyles) and can only be defined through language so the term "arabized berbers" doesn't make a lot of sense really.
If you want to get an impression of what Berber cultures may have been like before the islamic expansion you could look at the Tuareg or at the lackluster historical record of the Guanche people.

How drunk do you have to get before Irish history looks attractive?
Dead
Drunk enough to think Guinness tastes good
So pretty fucking annihilated
Irish history is neato. They've always been /fa/ as fuck, a lot of their literature is lovely, their military history (particularly leading up to norman's and during norse invasions) is the tightest shit, and 1900-1940ish is fascinating in how many different ways it could have gone.
Ireland has never been relevant on a global scale, but they've played excellent fisticuffs with us English, with the scots, with vikings and with themselves.
People say "LOL the irish are so bullied" when realistically I'd argue that the natives to england probably got memed even harder.
Is organised religion just one big LARP game?
> god = the game master
>"evil" vs "good" forces
> Rich lore
> All kinds of mythical dieties
> underworld boss levels
> magical "good" places
> optional final boss per religion
For Christianity:
> the protagonist enters the game
> his lore is rich, his story is mystical and his deeds are nobel
> however, evil forces are at work
> the protagonist has to be brave and good
> eventually succumbs but his story is set in stone
> every new player of the game strives to be him
However:
> at the creation of the game the fan base is still minimal
> players of other larp games start to kill them because they think their game is more fun
> it isn't tho
> more and more people start playing the game
> mods get appointed to make sure the rules are followed and that nobody cheats
> guilds starts to form in the game
> guilds eventually start to quarrel with eachother and make peace again
> this continues for a few centuries
> the game becomes more and more complex
> shitty in game economics and cheats ensured that the mods got every good items
> then this one autistic kid comes by
> you know the one
> he claims version 1.0 of the game was better
> starts massive riots and persuades a lot of players to go back to the vanilla server
> new in game wars break out
> eventually people start growing up
> the game gets old and boring in comparison to new games
> less and less people play the game
> now has become a novelty meme where we remember all the good and bad times
> raiding the arabic server
> exploring and taking over the american server
> that time the game master decided to cull the playerbase by spreading a super potent virus
> that time the head mod, the absolut madman, appointed the franco guild leader as new protagonist
> that time we booted the arabs from the spanish server
> the 100 year old guild war between the franco and angelic guild and the epic battle of agincourt
The greatest game ever played

Why is burning books considered such a big deal? It's not like you're burning the original or the one and only copy.
Leftists consider their vapid Marxist screeds to be sacred texts.

This more or less. It's people being triggered going "muh bigotry, this will not stand in the current year!"
Hello /his/, I'm currently making a comic set in historical medieval times and I need some information. It doesn't have to be completely accurate since part of the story involves temporal displacement allowing for the characters to travel at any time in the middle ages, and it;s highly fantasized, but keeping the basic gestalt of it helps. I also need information that isn't inherently about military stuff, just day to day life and culture since it's from the perspective of a lowly serf.
First, it takes place initially in Poland. I'm having a hard time finding lots of information on medieval Poland aside from winged hussars. Any good resources on it, and any interesting information about the times?
Also, speaking generally, what are some subjects you'd like to see explored in a medieval setting?
Well first of all winged hussars are not from medieval times, the one on the picture you posted is from the 17th century
First of all: there were no winged hussars in medieval Poland

>>2979150
Okay, thank's for the correction. I'm just trying to find ANYTHING about Poland that could be used in the story.
So what can you tell me about medieval Poland?
Were there some professional troops in middle ages? I find it hard to believe that lords had to recruit untrained malnourished peasants every single time they went to war.
>>2979111
You do realize there's a load of stuff in between
>Largely unarmed peasant horde
and
>Standing professional army
Right? What the hell would you call something like the militias that existed in most cities?
Plus, you know those things called knights? Basically, along with their retainers/household, they were professional soldiers.
>>2979111
Thegns and housecarls.
>>2979111
Men at Arms were professional soldiers. They weren't a standing army, because no one could afford that.
What are the best books on Buddhism?
Siddhartha in 3,2,1
>>2979090
I read a book called The foundations of Buddhism by rubert gethin which was very interesting.
A mixture of beliefs and history which is pretty easy to read though I don't know how accurate/comprehensive it is since I'm only a buddhist by tradition.
>yfw you realized jews became the world's only unconquerable culture when they decided Jewishness is passed on via the mother
there is literally no way they will ever be defeated
>>2979024
Hol up. Are you saying that Jews work like some fantasy race in the elder scrolls?
>>2979024
This is why we must promote JMBF.
Jewess + Gentile = Jew
Jew + Shiksa = Gentile

What compelled these Turks to fight for Christians? were they Muslim ?
Also i'm more curious about the ones that fought for the Byzantines than crusaders. Were they called Turcopoles as well? how did they end up their service?

Trying to rationalize the animalistic behaviors of the subhuman turks is impossible.

Can we have a uniform appreciation thread?

I personally really love the Polish Uhlans in Austrian and French armies
I have loved British paratrooper uniforms since I saw A bridge too far as a child. I don't know, maybe it's the helmet but those just look really nice to me.

Both were hacks. I prefer philosophers like Plato or Molyneux.

Marx was a shitter.
Can we talk about South African mercenaries? I just read about how 50 and 60 year old Afrikaan mercs BTFO of Boko Haram in Nigeria back in 2015 and I want all the info on them. Books or articles or docs, whatever.
>>2978831
aparently many south africans moved to Israel and enjoy that army. I don't know too much on South Africa and the Afrikaans but i love their language and culture desu
thx for the doc btw looking it up
>>2978858
that pic is a comic based on an actual PMC called Executive Outcomes which was established by a south african former colonel I believe. To be honest, this all started when I read a review of Neil Blomkamps movies and it made a remark about how south africans are only good at two things. Bureaucracy and Mercenaries.
>>2978918
oh haha i looked it up and got a lot of docs that i'm watching live, well gonna look up the comic too then!
Why didn't they just move on with the times?
>>2978766
They had assburgers.
