Why was sub-saharan Africa incapable of creating any civilization or culture of great value?
You mean aside from the Mali, the Songhai, the Zulu, and the Maasai?
What did any of these contribute to the world and human advancement?
I can't find any flaws in On The Genealogy of Morals and it is making me really angry someone please help me.

After reading Notes from Underground, Nietzsche praised Dostoevsky as a psychologist. But Dostoevsky is really not a psychologist, at least not how Nietzsche understands it. Dostoevsky doesn't have any theory of human nature or psychology, as Nietzsche and psychology does. Dostoevsky in fact is strongly opposed to such theories, and Notes from Underground is almost an anti theory, but Nietzsche notices some similarities to his theory and gives praise. He forgets that even the anti theory of the work, is in fact a reflection of the psychology of the narrator, and this is where Dostoevsky focuses: humans as persons, the psychology of mystery and uniqueness and free will, rather than the psychology of nature. For Dostoevsky, our nature is also mystical: it is the image of God; that in fact is not mere nature, it is supernatural, it is sublime and beautiful, beyond psychology. All steps toward this image we take as a Church, but all steps away we take as schismatics.

Dunno about Nietzsche but when I say that someone is a good psychologist I mean that they have a good intuitive understanding of human nature, not that they have scientific interest in studying it.
Otherwise I would have to say that Freud is a good psychologist and that would be wrong.
>>2997604
That is the point, Dostoevsky completely rejects the idea of human nature except our being Christ's image. His psychology is about individual nature, personal freedom, lack of any general scheme governing human behavior
>>2997619
That doesn't change the fact that he has a good intuitive understanding of human nature.
/his/ humor
i dont get it. something to do with predestination?

The joke is that Arminius wasn't a Calvinist, he was an Arminian, but since he's in heaven now with perfect theology, he's a Calvinist.
hmm..is that funny if you're a calvinist or something?
Like pic related but for history?
Check that Buddha manga, and there was this one about steppe people or something as well, name is escaping me at the moment.
>>2997481
Pic related. Check it, it's legit.
That one jew's history-of-the-world comic.
If God and Allah are the same entity? Then which side would he support when two sides are battling with each other?
That's so insightful my dude. No one has ever even come close to the level of enlightenment you're on.
>>2997381
Allah just means God in Arabic, mate. Christian Arabs also say allah
>>2997499
This.
The Trinity and the Islamic God are not the same, though
What would you do- as a enigmatic, prolific and wise /his/torian with infinite retrospectful thoughts, if sent back into history where you could implant yourself in society successfully, where would you go? What Would you do? Who would you influence? What would you try to do? Assuming culture and language weren't a barrier, what would you make happen and who would you rally with against whom?
Asking for a friend.

And while we're at it, Rasputen was obviously a time traveler but that's classified info against us the common folk.

I'd get the Sassanids and the Byzantines to stop being dumbasses and warring each other all the time, thus by the time the Rashidun Caliphate is established, they both will be able to fight back against the mudslimes, saving the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia from Islamic rule.
The Zero and the Yamato aside, why don't you ever see much support on Japan in WW2?
They tried real fucking hard and had an actually pretty nice worldview.
Japanese hegemony over perceived lesser peoples in an economically abusive relationship is a nice worldview. The Japs were ruthless and tapped into their natural suicidal autist tendencies for nothing
>born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire

Why was this allowed?
I was just thinking "now's a good time for another hitler thread"

Because he was German.

Hey Anons, just a reminder that time is a flat circle.
Have a nice Saturday night that you will repeat without you knowing. You aint gonna do shit.
didnt he give up the idea of eternal reccurence?
>>2997236
>flat circle
How can a two dimensional figure be anything other than flat ?
How can time even be represented as circle ? What is the radius supposed to represent ?

Memes aside, what do you think of Zizek as a philosopher? Thinking more his ontology than his critiques of ideology
>>2997221
read 2 of his books, bought a 3rd book to try and understand one of them better and it was harder than the book itself. its very complex stuff at times, and without reading at least a few hundred pages of his you have no hope to even guess at his thoughts, his videos, interviews etc are simplistic in comparison. i still cant tell you if he is good, not read enough of his stuff but he is interesting and his books did challenge my mind.
I would say however, you cant really understand any mans philosophy without being at least the same age as when he wrote it. Age changes the mind over your life, you cant expect to be 20 and really understand someone who is 50 with somethnig like this.
>>2997238
I've read The Indivisible Remainder, as well as a number of his works on Lacan.com
I think his stuff is pretty straightforward, I take issue with all the doom and gloom and ebin psychoanalytic reversals of everything but I think 90% of his ideas are right on. Is there anything you have trouble with? Or something that particularly interests you? I'm tired of memes
What the fuck does he mean by "ideology"?
How would the world be different in Africa never existed?
>>2997164
Humans wouldn't exist. Completely different species and biomes.
>>2997164
Depending on your position, there are two options.
1. Humanity does not exist and therefore nothing matters
2. Humanity does exist but numerous civilizations are stunted in weird ways due to the lack of an Egypt or North Africa. Although trade between Asia and Europe is much larger
>>2997164
Le humans wouldn't exist because they came from africa :DDDD
Memes aside, the entire world would be drastically different since Rome wouldn't be be able to project as much power due to lack of the Mediterrarean sea and such, lack of Carthage. Egypt disappearing means our alphabet will probably derive from the Sumerians/Akkadians and I guess you would be missing some of the Bible's mythos. Blacks not existing means Europeans and Americans would have to look at another source of slave labor and the Civil War would no longer have happened.
Was America morally just during WWII? Or were they merely greedy opportunists?
>>2997183
Truman was talking about bait and bleed strategies.
I don't think only entering in the war fully after years of supplying the allies after being attacked directly is really being a greedy opportunist though,
>>2997183
A bit of both, but Germany was 100% in the wrong.
Has there ever been a single time in history when the United States is not an opportunist bastard?
I think not, so, no. The United States helped the Soviets just to play the cat and the mouse with them. If they were really so anti-communist they would have let Hitler make the Soviets porridge.
Hey, newfag to philosophy here
Reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. I came across this passage that something to the extent of "If you feel like you want to do some pleasurable, instead think of how other people are being good/just or acting according to their inner daimon."
Question: I like listening to music. It's pleasurable to me. So I can't listen to music because it's pleasurable? What if creating music is someone's "gift given by nature"?
> plz help a confused person
>>2997111
Your first mistake is assuming you most do something because Marcus Aurelius had the personal idea to do so.
Second, it doesn't mean DON'T listen to music, it means take into consideration how other people go about giving in to pleasures.
>>2997128
got it thnx m8

Welcome. Glad to see someone else interested in philosophy on this board who isn't just a spookposter.
