Am I edgy in that I see nothing wrong nothing wrong with imperialism? I think unnecessary violence and destruction is evil, and should be avoided, but I do think it's rightful and good for states to expand their sphere as influence as far as they please and can realistically uphold.

I get that this might make some of the conquered people upset but people already don't have a right to cultural/national autonomy anyway; you're born in a state with a culture and civilization that you had no control over so someone imposing a different culture and civilization isn't any different really.

It's how all nations have grown since forever. Anti-imperialism is just a tactic that losers employ to disarm the strong. Beware of pity.
>>
Trying to influence other cultures isn't wrong. What's wrong is exploiting less fortunate nations for their resources.

You're not a slave to your ethnicity though, hence why shit like weeaboos exists.

If 'history was written by the victors,' why is Marie Antoinette generally received sympathetically while Robespierre (and other revolutionaries) are not?

How come France lost the Algerian war?

The same way every material power loses every asymmetric war. Costs involved in fighting the weaker party are too high to be worth the goal conceived.

In particular, the use of torture to break resistance cells was viewed as abhorrent and killed a lot of French support when further hostilities broke out.
>>
>>286840
Because the French citizenry found out what they were doing to win.
>>
Because a great film had to be made.

But really, this.

There's this war that happened in South America that I can't seem to remember the details of. I think Colombia was involved. It was notable in the fact that like 80% (or some obscene amount) of a country was killed. Am I remembering this wrong or did something like this happen? What was this war?

Paraguay took on all of its neighbors at once. And then did it again a hundred years later
>>
You're probably thinking of Brazil killing Paraguay
>>
>>286618

Paraguayan war. Between Paraguay and Brazil (mostly). Some estimates put the adult male population dead at 70%, although from what I gather (and I haven't studied the period much) modern estimates seem to think that was a bit exaggerated.

However, the Pope did allow a temporary institution of polygamy to help the population recover, so yeah.

"The Civil War was fought in over ten thousand places, from Valverde, New Mexico and Tullahoma, Tennessee, to St. Albans, Vermont and Fernandina on the Florida Coast. More than three million Americans fought in it. And over six hundred thousand, two percent of the population, died in it."

Any other god-tier historical docus like this one?

Let me put it this way.

In 154, before the Three Kingdoms civil war, the Han census reported 55.4 million people.

In 280, when the Jin Dynasty had (more or less) clawed their way into re-unification, the population was at 16.1 million.

So, over 70% of the country gone.

Hitler was a devout feminist.

He believed that women were completely equal to men.
>>
>>286541
They were definitely more encouraged to do athletic shit and to stay fit and stuff, but in terms of everyday life they were pretty much relegated to the usual female jobs of the time such as teaching or nursing, and the traditional role of raising the children
>>
>>286558

EITHER HE WAS A "FEMINIST", OR HE "BELIEVED THAT WOMEN WERE EQUAL TO MEN"; CHOOSE ONE.

REGARDLESS, ADOLF HITLER NEITHER WAS A "FEMINIST", NOR DID HE BELIEVE THAT "WOMEN WERE EQUAL TO MEN" OR VICEVERSA; "FEMINISM" IS BASICALLY FEMALE SUPREMACISM, AND A FORM OF EXTREME SEXISM, AND MALES, AND FEMALES, ARE CERTAINLY NOT MUTUALLY EQUAL GENETICALLY, BIOLOGICALLY, PHYSICALLY, PSYCHOLOGICALLY, NOR SOCIALLY, BUT DISCRIMINATION BASED ON UNESSENTIAL FACTORS LIKE GENDER, IS ERRONEOUS, AND LEADS TO SOCIOCULTURAL PROBLEMS LIKE THE ONES EXISTING NOW.

I can actually differentiate most major accents and languages even though I'm an American who only speaks English, Spanish, some French, and even less German.
>>
>>286523
Native English speaker here - Dutch and Danish for me sound similar to me. German and the other Scandinavians do too, but to a lesser degree.

Once I learned German in school, the other Germanic languages really sound similar to me. Romance languages sound foreign to me, and once you leave Indo-European languages... forget about it

Sounds the best?
English spoken, Slavic languages singing
Sounds the worst?
Arabic. Not even an Islamaphobe, their language is just so harshly spoken
>>
German and French sound similar to me desu
