Can anyone name some effects that the Fall of Constantinople had on Europe?
>>325781
It would effectively cripple most of eastern europe (Hungary, Balkans) in the long run
The Greek Empire was already weak for a while, wasn't it?
nothing
Is the history of the Chechen people much beyond intertribal/interclan warfare and warfare with outside powers? What was the historical impetus that created such violent cultures in the North Caucasus?
>>325735
bumping with different Caucasus peoples
>>325743
>>325735
>What was the historical impetus that created such violent cultures in the North Caucasus?
Probably constant Russian invasion
Assume God has always existed and the universe has existed only finitely. I will prove God didn't create the universe.
Assume the opposite, that God created the universe. Since the universe has existed for a finite time, and God for an infinite time, he must have waited an infinite time, but you will never finish waiting an infinite time, therefore he never created it, therefore the universe doesn't exist, but it does; a contradiction.
Therefore fedoras are #1.
But God can finish waiting a finite time. He cam do anything.

Can God create a rick so heavy he can't lift it?
>>325608
can he stop himself from doing something?
>ITT: God-tier philosophers.
>That is how I'd like to show myself to you: faithful, modest, nobleminded, imperturbable. What and immortal, too, and eternally young and immune from disease? No, but as one who can die in a god-like way.
>that lies in my power, that I can do, but the rest is not in my power, nor can I do it. I'll show you the sinews of a philosopher. And what sinews are those? Desire that never fails in its aim, aversion that never falls into what it wants to avoid, motivation that accords with one's duty, purpose that is carefully weighed, and assent that is not over hasty. That is what you'll see.
>the universe can be explained by physics
>mankind can be explained by biology
>god is a useless assumption and can be trimmed by Occam's razor.
Death is nothing to us; for the body, when it has beenresolved into its elements, has no feeling, and that which has no feelingis nothing to us - Epicurus
Who was the best Naval commander in history? I nominate Chester Nimitz. What he did simply could not have been accomplished by any other Naval commander in history. What do you guys think makes a truly good Naval commander, and how is it different from that of an army commander?
>>325504
What do you honestly think Nimitz did that was so special? Not much really, US leadership in the Pacific left a lot to be desired compared to other theaters of war. Don't get me wrong, he was OK, but he's guilty like all the rest of failing to incorporate economics into the broader war strategy. Only 4% of carrier strikes were targeted at Japanese merchant shipping but they did 13% of the damage.
It's just stupid reading about how admirals and even guys like LeMay prolonged the war for months by completely ignoring this issue.

Battle of Midway
What do you think about Chomsky /his/?
He's Harrison Ford.
>>325481
Pretty good ideas and insight into linguistics though tends to be far too abstract sometimes.
Still much better and far easier to understand than this guy though.
>>325481
Sounds pretty retarded when talking about politics

What type of cross was Jesus of Nazareth most likely crucified on?
It is commonly accepted that a sign stating "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews" was affixed above him, so this seems to discredit the idea that it was a tau crucifix (pic related)
The Jehovah's Witnesses claim he was crucified on a crux simplex, or just a simple stake. The Orthodox Church asserts that a bar was placed beneath his feat so as to support his weight (which is where the Three Barred Cross comes from)
So which is most likely?
No cross at all. He wasn't real.
>>325383
>inb4 shitstorm
There is plenty of historical evidence for the existence of Jesus. Whether or not he was the Christ and his miracles are real are not relevant to this discussion.
Is morality subjective?
>>325298
Yes.
>>325298
No.
Next question.
Lets discuss this man /his/.
He lead my country out of its racist past. Hes a hero.

i know mandela wasn't exactly a saint, but didn't he at least take precautions to evacuate the buildings he bombed?
i know his wife, or ex-wife rather, was batshit insane though.

Analytical or continental philosophy?
A fusion of the two
>>324705
Analytical philosophy is more efficient, continental philosophy is more interesting. Acknowledging only one while discarding the other makes you a dumbass.
False dichotomy
Pointless anyway
Could Hitler have achieved his Lebensraumy dreams if Poland was allied with the USSR instead of Britain and France?
>>324458
Churchill would have needed to have died before the invasion to prevent Britain from entering the war regardless. A strong Germany was a clear threat to the imperial England and Churchill never shied away from war.
>>324458
both ways it requires a tactically and statigically sound fuhrer, not some madcap fantacist like Hitler
>>324595
And you can't mobilize Germany without a leader who irrationally mythologizes Germany's destiny. There never would have been a perfect Reich.
There are people on /his/ right now, that unironically believe nationalism existed in any form, prior to the 19th century when it started.
>>324401
Well, nobody ever said nationalists were smart.
Technically nationalism started in late 18th century.
Also back in the ancient days we had tribalism.
>>324410
No it didn't. The only legitimate form of nationalism is ethnic nationalism, which started in the 19th century
When did last names came to be? Are there any cultures without last names? IIRC Atatürk made a reform where everyone in Turkey had to get a last name. Was there any country where they had some other identification structure or none at all?
>inb4 that one anon complains that the .com ruins the image
>>324359
Well in East Asia, they are first names.
What exactly do you mean by last name? Are you including references such as x from y and/or z son of y? If you don't include the latter then Island is a prime example of an existing country which does not uses last names.
