With the proper resources, most of which can be found online or at a local university library, and a bit of dedication, you can learn a lot.

If you're serious, see the policies for non-university affiliated individuals for borrowing books. A lot of them will allow you to use their resources.

It gets a lot of shit here, but Reddit is actually a decent place to find and catalog large amounts of information on any given subject. Avoid the comment sections, and stick to subreddits dedicated to academic topics.

The only way they "win" WW2 is to knock out the Soviets, build up a huge fortress Europe, endure strategic bombing for a couple of years, and eventually sign a peace when it becomes clear they aren't going anywhere (and even this is a huge longshot)

In that time, the U.S. uses and deploys the atomic bomb, rendering large areas of Continental Europe baking, irradiated cinders.

Maybe the expedition was carried to America in a series of unfortunate/unforeseen events. Like a storm bringing the vessel way of course or some other happenstance. And if this was the case it is self explanatory that no record of any expedition would exist, since it would just be regarded as a another ship lost at sea.

As for the other question, about the shields? Once you had plate armor, shields almost disappeared. Two major reasons for that:

1) If you have plate, chances are, the guys you're fighting also have plate. You're going to need a weapon that can get through that shit, which usually means 2 handed to generate enough power.

2) Less marginal protection. If you're in plate, you're only really worried about weapons that can get through plate. Anything that can get through plate is also going to get through a wooden board, unless it's so thick and heavy that your arm will fall off trying to use it.

TL;DR: The border just goes along the lines of the six counties. There is no particular reason for that retarded section that relates to modern history.
It is very likely that already existed as part of the boundary between two counties before partition.
I'm sure there is a historical reason for it, but almost certainly not one that relates to the 20th century conflict in Ireland

Well, we tried to settle on an agreement with the British on a basis of "economic, self-determination, ethnic considerations", but the Brits went back on their word and we'd have lost land in Donegal where a large Protestant population was rather than gaining land, so we just kinda said "nah fuck it just leave it like it is".

The border is incredibly porous, and almost led to direct conflict between Irish and British forces during the Troubles (there was a bridge the British intended to blow up to stop the IRA crossing it, but the Irish deployed the Army and claimed it was Republic territory).

Nobody even tries to police it now, it's just filled with back roads, and we have a Common Travel Area (kinda like a mini-Schengen) so it's not like it needs to have border checks.

To answer that you have to remember that there are two well-known Tatar nations not that closely related to each other: Kazan Tatars and Crimean Tatars. Kazan Tatars, being an enclave in Russia, are generally okay with them but not exactly fully supportive, as far as I know.
Crimeans fucking despise Russians because only after Ukraine got independence they were actually allowed to come back, and Russians, especially ones who moved to Crimea after deportation, are generally afraid of them.

Crimean Tatars are a mix of the whole bunch of local population that lived in Crimea before them and Turkic nomads.

Kazan Tatars I'm not too sure about. They aren't very related to mongols and I think they are partially descending from Volga Bulgars.

I can't vouch for all of them but I like them. You've got to give props for living in the center of Russia and still being a relatively tight-knit community defending its cultural values. As far as religion goes, honestly, Russian Muslims are generally way nicer that Russian Russians, so to speak.

Kazan Tatars have nothing to do with Crimean Tatars. Tatar became a Russian idiom for someone foreign and it got applied to a bunch of people including crimean turks and the Mongol Invaders.

Also, from my experience, Caucasian Muslims(chechens, Dagestanis) are extremely Muslim, even the younger generations. Why is this different than Tatars?
