Why does the Bible anthropomorphize God so often?
God speaks, Gen. 1:3; converses, Lev. 4:1; calls, Lev. 1:1; he hears, Ex. 16:12; sees, Gen. 1:4; smells, 1 Sam 26:19; laughs, Ps. 2:4; and hisses, Isa. 7:18. He has eyes, Amos 9:4, which he sets on sinners; hands, with which he grasps them, Amos 9:2; a hand, that is against the prophets that see vanity, Ezek. 13:9; fingers, with which he writes the tables of the Law, Deut. 9:10; an arm, which he stretches out with might, Jer. 27:5, and which he lays bare before all nations to seperate them, Isa. 52:10; ears, Num. 11:18, 14:28, Ezek. 8:18, 2 Kings 19:28; feet, under which he whirls the clouds like dust, Nah. 1:3, and for which there is even a footstool, Isa. 66:1; a mouth, with which he instructs the peoples, Jer. 9:12; lips that are full of indignation and a tongue that is a devouring fire, Isa. 30:27; a head, that has a defense, Ps. 60:7; a face which he maketh to shine upon his saints, Num. 6:25, and which he hides to the terror of the creature, Ps. 104:29; and a back which Moses was permitted to see, Ex. 33:23. His heart turns within him and his emotions are kindled, Hos. 11:8
Because at the time all gods literally walked around and literally had houses and all that.
T. Canaanites and other mesopotamians
In the old tradition, god and other deities were men that died. Hence zeus who had a tomb in greece, for example. Don't forget that funerary practises existed long before religions.
Have you realised Zizek gives new talks at the drop of a hat? How is it that one guy can glide by solely based on extreme levels of charisma? How do I become like him?

Because he has a cult of personality. He's more performance artist than academic at this point.

Is perversion bad?
If so, why?
If not, why?
What would you consider perversions?
What is acceptable in terms of sex?
depends on the time and the place.
Perversion is subjective.
>durrr doesn't this JPEG make you feel uncomfortable?
That's my point. Feels. Feeling. Ally McFeel. "Perversion" is a personal expression of disgust upon exposure to a stimulus in a sexual context.

Bad for what or whom?
For God? For me? For you? For an organisation? For some group?
If someone tried to revive the Roman Empire in a post-apocalyptic setting, what would it look like?
>>452916
how am i supposed to answer that question
a post-apocalyptic setting could be literally anything, just like a post-ice-age setting can be literally anything. I'm struggling to see anything that could be reasonably asserted about this scenario. A revival of the Roman Empire might look somewhat similar to the Roman Empire i suppose.
Is that the answer you were looking for? That it might look a bit like the Roman Empire? It would probably be more futuristic though, unless it wasn't

Depends on who you ask. A lot of the modern issues have to do with the fallout of the Ottoman collapse and mandate system after World War 1, but there are sectarian and ethnic issues that have been around longer (though many were exacerbated by the aforementioned transition.) The region has the misfortune of being very central to the old world, geographically, strategically, and culturally, in a way that lent it to constant upheaval, intervention, conflict and changing boundaries.
So....
How do we save Christmas in America?
Look, I think America has the best Christmas songs and Christmas movies (it's a fact really)
Americans also do good when it comes to going out to a Christmas tree farm and chopping down one to bring home, and Americans kids usually get fantastic presents and yaddda yadda
But, how do we get communities to collectively gather to participate in joined traditions that bounds communities together, like in Europe?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_traditions#Europe
Seriously dude, I want America to have the most heart warming Christmas on earth, by getting towns and cities across the nation to band together to participate in rituals and shit together.
There's of course choirs and ballets and plays that people go to sit down and see, but...What percent of Americans actually do that?
It's done in a way that encourages consumer spending and that's what is important.
Our country just isn't old enough to have deep traditions like Europe does. Ask again in a few centuries.

Who's that black kid?
What doth life?
Why do you post that picture of a neckbeard? It is meant to discredit everything he says? I seriously doubt that man knows anything about philosophy. Like lives a simple life in Missouri, Lives with his mom and works a stable job at the local bottle factory. Likely never to get promoted but he's been there a while and gets the job done. Never had a girlfriend, occasionally gets into fights with his mom over it due to frustration. Father died when he was young. Goes to church with his mom but barely understands the sermon.

When I look at this man, this is the life I see. I don't see him as a wall street investment banker working 80 hour+ weeks
Why isn't Phrenology or Physiognomy more accepted in the medical world? Is it political correctness and fear of racism? Because I do think there's a bit of truth in how our looks define us. It's a shame more studies aren't done.
>>462781
>I do think there's a bit of truth in how our looks define us
PHYSICAL TRAITS DO NOT DEFINE CHARACTER; PHYSICAL TRAITS ARE INDICATORS, NOT DETERMINANTS; TRAITS ARE CONSEQUENCES, NOT CAUSES.
>>462825
Recent studies have shown that positive canthal tilt in the eyes can indicate truthworriness. People have always had stereotypes of the looks of certain type of people. There must be some truth that should be researched. But it's too unethical because lack of free will.

If you can't name at least five of the people in this picture, you need to get off /his/ and read some books.
Even the Pope? Good Lord. There's fucking everybody.
Except for Cleveland. USA can't into relevancy.

You mean Chester Arthur? Far right.
Any great films with philosophers/philosophy? Wondering if there's anything worth to watch on Socrates, I google'd a few movies, but the reviews are sparse, and often negative.

Manufacturing Consent is entry level but fun to watch.
Donald is right.
Though that doesn't mean you inherently and shouldn't value something, someone, anyone, anything and have to be a nihilistic fag.
What are the ingredients required for a fanatical society?
Insecurity, dogma, authority not being questioned, lack of empathy
Losing a war and being recorded in history.

>if we imagine ourselves in Times Square on a busy Monday morning, let's say you have an innate knowledge of the walking speed and masses of every individual in the area - would it be possible to predict where everyone would be going based on this data alone? The clear answer is no, the individuals are following the rulesets of their consciousness, higher-order laws that only pertain to the the complex molecular and electrochemical constructs we call life. Thus we see that the intentionality of consciousness cannot be predicted or sufficiently described by any lower order formulas
>Another way to illustrate this distinction with matter and matter that is conscious is an examination of the two broad types of problems that assail human beings. One is a convergent problem - these relate to the dead aspect of matter where the ambiguities of life and consciousness do not interfere. The more people investigate them, such as, what does 1 + 1 equal, the more answers converge on a single solution. The opposite type of problems are divergent. These are problems of the human sphere. What is good government? How do we best educate our children? The more people ask them, the more people tend to diverge or disagree on the solution. Mathematics, the formulas of physics and chemistry are toothless here. These are problems that relate to self-awareness, to subjective states of experience. In summary, consciousness is not reducible to the descriptions of non-living physical systems
What say you, /his/?
If we know everything there is to know about each individual, you could predict their movements and destinations with a fair share of certainity.
>>462124
Speed and distance of feet have nothing to do with consciousness.
If you knew they were hungry or wearing a suit and the time and whatnot, then it becomes a bit easier. Add food preferences, and it narrows down further.
How do we get this data? Ask google.
Why haven't you read this yet.
Because there are more relevant books than the fedora bible.
