Japanese "comfort women"
Were they real, or is it all just typical Korean lies and exaggeration?
>>493717
Definitely true.
What's even worse was the equivalent in Russia for the German army. An estimated million babies were born by German soldiers and Russian women.
People always talk about how horrible the Russian soldiers raping German girls was, which it was, but people don't see the Eastern front.
real and exaggerated.

Why do guys in medieval style paintings always look chill or high or on something?
>>507973
everyone drank beer instead of water
also grain fields were full of wild plants, ergot and psychedelic mushrooms which would get swept up in the mix by peasants who had to labor all day dawn to dusk during the harvest season and didn't have the time or energy to pick out just the healthy wheat/barley/oats/rye

What
>>508102
Do you really imply everyone was high and drunk during medieval ages?
Do we even have a democracy?
The Greece saw the aristocracy, the rule of an elite, as a positive contrast to the democracy, because they saw democracy as nothing more than the rule of a mindless mob.
Later on the meaning changed and democracy was viewed upon as the rule of the people. In the positive meaning of having everyone share a piece of the political power cake, as opposed to a minority hoarding all the power.
But what do we have today? Is it a democracy or is that just what we would like to believe? And are we supposed to view it as worth keeping around or not?
The children in school aren't taught to become critical thinkers, they do not learn about their country's laws and they only scratch the very surface of how politics work in their country.
People are growing increasingly apathetic towards politics. Is this because the people feel that they are being excluded from political choices? That they have no impact with their vote and their voice?
Who even knows what they are voting for when they go to vote? What the political party or the representative they vote even stand for?
Did anyone here ever make a political change? Or had the feeling that they had any sort of meaningful partake in the democracy that they are a part of?

Should I read War And Peace? Would you recommend it? I've read that the author doesn't consider it a "novel", since it becomes a philosophical discussion later in the book.
What do you think /his/? Have you read it?
It's excellent. Read the Maudes Translation published by Everyman.
>>507543
Any reason for reading that translation? Is it easier to read? I was thinking about just reading the version up on gutenburg.org.
>>507555
It's a good translation -- the one Tolstoy approved personally. You can find it online easily. The edition doesn't matter too much, but Everyman are great quality.

Gotta make sure you can justify those genocides somehow.

Also Boulainvilliers.

is Adam the first guy in earth?i've heard about lilith that she's the first woman but not mention in Bible, why?
Adam was the first man on earth, created from dust. In Jewish mythology, the first woman Lilith was created from dust also, but that made Adam and Lilith equals and caused fights over dominance. Therefore, she was discarded, and Eve was created from one of Adam's ribs, so she would be subordinate to her. I don't think Lilith is ever mentioned in the Bible, just in Jewish commentaries on Genesis.
>>506667
>but not mention in Bible,why?
Probably because God doesn't want his fuck-ups publicised.
>>506698
>Adam was the first man on earth
can u explain that?
is jewish the same as christianity?
so now we know that eve not the first woman, its lilith the demon?
I want to become a less hateful nicer person to people.
I study the occult and fringe type of stuff very lightly. Read a few books on the topic. I also read the bible in my quest to be a good person and general illogical human needs that we have. Obviously the bible is bullshit but is there anything in the "occult" realm like paganism or Buddhism that will help me in just becoming a more moral person?
I am into the occult and study everyday but I kind of want a legit structure in my mind.

Oh yip I was in the same boat a couple of months ago,
I was struggling with identity and then I realised that it didn't matter, I could be whoever I wanted so I decided to be someone that everyone wanted to be around.
I don't mean to be cryptic I can explain anything better, just ask :)
Just the idea that a human life can be taken at any moment, the fact that so many inhumane tragedies occur, the complete lack of empathy for territorial gain or to earn a position of power; why is war still a reliable alternative to peace?
I realize that oppressed should have a right to fight his oppressor, but many times in the world we see the bigger power exerting its power over simpler or perceived weaker force.
Are we really then no different from our blood-thirsty ancestor?
Is war just a natural occurrence in humanity? Should i embrace the bleak catastrophe that is modern war? I am interested in its history, but amazed matters can still be settled in this way.
And should history be merely academic, or should we try to learn from it rather then memorize? I'm almost finished with "Enemy at the Gates" and I want to take away a more meaningful message, rather then "the germans ate rats and dogs and the Russian's closed in around the 'kessel' to slaughter them all."

Clay.
War drives innovation and fosters new industries.
War is good.
it's not natural at all, but it'll happen until something stops it from being profitable

Because they invented a bomb-ass method to find the limit of an equation.
