Is music language? In a philosophical, Wittgenstein, Chomsky sense?
>>534199
it can be used as language
but in itself, it is only language as much as sounds that come from the human mouth or etchings on paper are.
>>534199
Only when it has good lyrics (^:
>>534229
>sounds that come from the human mouth or etchings on paper are
Why not sounds from an instrument?
Or to put it another way, is Bach a philosopher?
Where did the Afro-Asiatic languages originate? How did it end up spanning from ancient Middle Eastern civilizations to tribes in West Africa?
>tribes
>>533457
Originated in Africa, obviously.
>How did it end up spanning from ancient Middle Eastern civilizations to tribes in West Africa?
Africans migrated east and in turn took their language with them, would be my best guess.
Why do people dress so badly now?
>>531847
because this shit is too much work and impractical. if you don't work in an office you'd only be inconvenienced having to wear a suit everywhere
Because wearing a suit every day is a pain in the arse
Herodotus or Thucydides?
>inb4 both
Herodotus. He merely lists what he has heard and allows people to judge if it's bullshit or not. Thucydides just tells you the narrative that he believes is closest truth, and rarely brings up secondary accounts while telling his histories.
>>539522
Thucydides is more like a modern historian than Herodotus, though.
>>539531
>twists facts in to supporting his own narrow perspective of events
sure is
How will the rise of modern genetics affect people's identity?
An example is England. The English have historically considered themselves to be anglo-saxons, contrasting themselves with the surrounding celtic peoples. However, modern genetic studies show that the English are almost entirely celtic by genetics.
It turns out that the anglo-saxons for them most part assimilated the celts, rather than displace them.
Will information like this change people's self-perception of identity?
>>538569
>It turns out that the anglo-saxons for them most part assimilated the celts, rather than displace them.
It was quite logical seeing as the same happened in France.
>>538569
>However, modern genetic studies show that the English are almost entirely celtic by genetics.
They do?
>>538569
I'd hope not. It annoys me to no end when people get all "muh hurritage" about genetics, when identity is much more about culture and inheriting the worldviews, rather than the genetics, of various groups in the past. Whatever their genetics, the English Anglo-Saxon culture was more based on continental Germanic traditions than Celtic ones, and that's whats important.

What historical figures deserve a biopic?
Justinian II Rhinotmetos
Concerning the genesis of modern humanity, there are two primary theories that receive credence in anthropological circles. One is the “Out of Africa” hypothesis, which in short argues that today’s humans are the evolved descendants of a primitive race of hominids that roughly 70,000 years ago, departed its homeland in Africa and spread across the globe. Upon entering Asia and Europe, these archaic humans displaced the indigenous Neanderthals through violent conflict and higher birthrates.
The other theory is “Divergent Evolution,” or "Multiregional Hypothesis" which posits that the various races of mankind were spawned out of continuous admixtures between the different proto-humans (Homo-erectus, Cro-Magnon, Neanderthal, etc.) many millennia ago. The countless hybrid amalgams then underwent localized evolution like the single ancestor of the “Out of Africa” process.
Which theory do you regard as the most plausible one and why?
>>538156
Out of Africa. There is only one race. The human race.
>>538156
Both seem to have equal credibility at this point in our knowledge
>>538156
The multiregional hypothesis does no longer receive credence in anthropological circles.
Besides, your picture alone is enough to invalidate it: when has evolution ever happened so cleanly and symmetrically? At the very least, Asians and Europeans should share a more recent common ancestor.

Yes. This is well-document and generally known, taught in grade school in most places.

This is the angle that doesn't get enough attention. There's evidence he may have been to Iceland and at least had some contacts with Icelanders.
Is there any ethnic or cultural group in Europe that were so numerous and warlike yet achieved so little?

Brest-Litovsk was even worse. Any if Germany had won ww1, you bet your ass there would have been massive annexations, a fourth partition of Poland, and generally the rule of Empires continuing in Continental Europe.
>>536938
Yeah, it's not like Germany imposed literally the exact same conditions on France at the end of the Franco-Prussian war.

I have to do an essay for "Cultural History of the United States", about something relevant between 1920-2001.
Any suggestions? It can be anything as long as it's engaging I guess. I already did an essay for this class, about the electric feud between Thomas Edison and Westinghouse, scored pretty well, but now I can't find any topic that inspires me.
Would prefer it to be be "semi obscure", as writing about something really common might be easier to catch bullshit and score lower I guess.

"Globalism" of the rights-of-man variety.
By shutting down regional tendencies in European states, bureaucrats went full retard not acknowledging the European Union was made for white free men. Instead we got non elected nanny state with subversive tendencies like the passion for regulating things and importing muhammadans.
