Should the humanities be taught to all members of society? Or should it be the domain of specialists like, in a sense, science? How do you feel about the oft prophesied "death of the liberal arts"?

Sorry. Wrong pic.

The western canon is problematic and triggering, we should teach slam poetry instead.
All people should simply be taught literacy and how to learn. Everything else is for fun.
If correlation doesn't equal causation, what does? And why can't you trust it even when variables are isolated? Why statistics?
>>675761
what if they are both caused by the same thing
>>675761
You can't control for all variables till you know all variables. And there are unknown unknowns so this is impossible.

Should the U.S. have annexed the Philippines?

yes

why is that? to get those sweet, sweaty, flip """resources""", what's the point in colonizing if they are going to be a proxy state that nobody gives a shit about

Nah, we just wanted the benefits of being American, like healthcare, better standard of living and shit actually getting done by our politicians.

When did you realize that Zoroaster is the objectively superior religious figure?

Christianity is human, all too human.
>>675367
This was pretty common. The council of Nicea was testament to this; Constantine sitting Christians down to decide what form of Christianity was best for the empire, not which was true.

Agreed.
I would enjoy a game where you actually had to face the impossible odds against you as Cortes, and build up enough strength to finally collapse the empire.
Would be fun.

first person view of human sacrifice and shit would be cool
So, i have a hypothetical question for you.
Who would be the better sucsessor for lenin, trotsky or stalin?
How would trotsky have handled industrialization? The Nazis? The invaison of Poland? Not to meantion Trotsky's global views of communism. Would he have blead the USSR dry with foreign pursuits unlike stalin? Would Trotsky negotiate with the Nazis into neutrality or join them against the capatalist pigs?
I mean, it's hard to deny that Stalin was a monster, but it's also hard to deny that he industrialized Russia into a superpower in very little time. Stalin's vision for communism was to secure it within Russia before spreading it to other countries. Stalin was a master at propaganda and made his people fear and love him, while trotsky wasn't very well liked by the people or the party, which could have affected his hold on power.
What do you think /his/, who would be the better leader? How would it change the events of world war II?
Trotsky.
Stalin was a reactionary son of a bitch.

Neither.

Hey, so I don't know if this is the right board to post this on to be honest but what the hell.
I'm an American (like the USA kind) and like many of my fellow Americans I'm a mutt ethnically. Of course we all are to some extent throughout the course of history. I'm split between Lithuanian, Irish, Czechoslovakian, Native American, and of course more many more I'm sure that I'm not aware of.
Is there a benefit to being able to claim one main heritage? It seems like it would be comforting to participate in traditions that have been handed down for generations. The only culture I have is none at all. Just streamlining other cultures into cookie cutter profitable items and holidays.
Do cultural traditions play an important part in society?
Do you guys have one main ethnicity or culture you identify with?
What do you guys think?
In my anger and jealousy over being a mongrel, I've joined with the Jewish international conspiracy to destroy all unique races and blend mankind into one homogenous people devoid of differences.
>>675254
What else can you do right?
Not really, Mexicans define themselves as one race even though there are varying degrees of mixes, and I think the best thing to do is to define yourself as an American instead of an Irish-American or a German-American like half the fucking country does, you have a great country, be a part of it, do not isolate yourself by assigning yourself a title. You are great no matter your past.
Why were there no Waffen SS units deployed in Stalingrad?

Hitler VASTLY underestimated the power and cunning of the red army.
The seige of leningrad was relatively easy for the Nazis, so i supposed that they assumed that things would be as easy further East. At the time, the Nazis were still fighting on the western front and locking down their position in the west. The 6th army was joined with the italians and the hungarians (kek) after the russian counter offensive,
The soviet counter offensive saw over a million men and almost twice the ammount of tanks as the germans. The red army was better organized than the 6th army and its merry band of allies, so after many painstaking days, the russians flattened the germans and cut them off from germany.
The only way Hitler could have won was if he very quickly knocked out the USSR in an Alexander the Great type way. As soon as he failed, even by Autumn 1941, it was over.
They were too busy commiting war crimes elsewhere

Steppe tribes measured wealth in the number of their horses. A typical Mongol horseman would have at least 6 horses. Genghis, his mother and two brothers had 2.

Zhu Yuanzhang went from being a peasant to founding the Ming dynasty and driving the Mongols from China.
I wasn't really sure if this was the correct board to post this specific topic on, but it said history. I'm going for it. Basically, I'm trying to collect as many historical pictures as I can. Planes are much appreciated. First picture are Fw-190's of Jagdgeschwader 54 "Grunherz". They are 190's of the A-5 variant.

Ireland thread: Wishing we were relevant edition
100 Year Anniversary of the Easter Rising is coming up fast, and the question I have for you fellas is:
If Ireland had managed to Unite and stay united, whether through Brian Boru's based antics or some other means, what possibility or capacity would they have had for outward expansion?
Were Irish warriors actually famed for being bretty gud? Is there a scenario in which part of the world not on the island of Ireland could have been under Irish control?
Were we relevant?
>>674830
Ireland is very relevant to American history.
>William of Malmesbury's humorous anecdote illustrates both the character of John Scotus Eriugena and the position he occupied at the French court. The king having asked, "Quid distat inter sottum et Scottum?" (what separates a sot (drunkard) from an Irishman?) and Eriugena having replied, "Tabula tantum" (Only a table), the implication being that King Charles himself was a drunkard.
