Can we get a /his/ approved documentary thread?
Anything available on YouTube and Netflix is much appreciated.

Not a documentary but In Our Time is a good radio program to listen to.
>>831039
Zeitgeist the Movie.
WWII in Colour is a really good one on Netflix
About a dozen or so episodes each an hour long focusing on a certain front/time
What would modern society be like if we still had neanderthal societies around?(or another hominid species for that matter)
and no I don't think australian aborigines count
>>830390
why would abos count? they have denisovan admixture, not neanderthal
We would probably be super duper racist against all of them.
>>830390
Physically they're basically humans+ so far as I can tell, and we don't know much about them mentally. So in our early history they might have just ruled over us through force.
If the Vietnam War was fought with an all-volunteer US military instead of being composed of draftees would opposition to the war be as high as it was? Would we still be there like we are still in Afghanistan if that was the case?
I mean I have a hard time imagining draft-age college students caring much about the war if they weren't at risk of being sent overseas and forced to participate in it. When was the last time you saw a major protest against US involvement in Afghanistan, for instance?
This is a good anti-Vietnam war song I just recently found btw:

1. the USA didn't lose the war because of protestors. they lost it because the vietnamese didn't mind a communist state. the only reason the USA was in vietnam in the first place was to fight charlie.
2. 9/11 was the reason why americans don't give a crap about dying afghans. not because they volunteered
>>829097
WWII had more drafting and draft dodgers than Vietnam. The protests became obvious because of the media during the Vietnam era but the sons of wwii heroes marched to Vietnam mostly of their own accord. They had the greatest generation to live up to and many of them volunteered.
>>829147
>WWII had more drafting and draft dodgers than Vietnam.
It was also a total war, much more justified in the minds of the vast majority of Americans, and public anti-war protests against such a moral, just, and popular war would have been extremely risky. Completely different situations.
There may have been more draft dodgers during WWII (source on that?) but they would have been completely quiet about it, they weren't burning their draft cards in the streets with public approval. During Vietnam that kind of behavior was seen as understandable by sympathetic audiences.
So if language is broken

How does one tackle a philosophical problem /his/?
nihilism general

My friend, you are commiting the common error of equivocating the failure of the 'enlightenment' project with the failure of, thinking? In general.
Naturally they were doomed from the start due to autistic standards of evidence that make knowledge appear impossible (which the mid twentieth century post-moderns, while posing themselves as 'overturning' the enlightenment project, ironically retained their same standards of evidence, which they used in a selective, tactical manner to dismiss things which hurt their feels, but never turned on their own conceits).
If you can grok the phrase: ' the exception that proves the rule', you are on the way to recovery.

What was the beef between Rome and Judea? Why did both Caligula and Claudius put idols in their synagogues?
that was a dick move
romans couldn´t into hearts and minds policy
>>825340
Who cares when you can wipe out their culture and civilization
>>825331
>What was the beef between Rome and Judea?
Because Israelites don't being under the rule of others. Muh exile of Babylon.
>Why did both Caligula and Claudius put idols in their synagogues?
To display their power, they saw themselves as gods and they're dicks.
I'll start.
>Ardent opponent of crown
>Become a power hungry cunt/think of self as a god
>Be against public executions,
>Start calling for more "necessary" public executions
>get executed
>be amazing orator
>shoot self in jaw, can't utter a single word before getting decapitated
My personal favorite irony in history: triple whammy. Robespierre = mega hypocrite faggot.
Post your goodies, don't disappoint me /his/.
Robespierre saved France.
>>832463
And yet, still ironic as fuck.
>>832463
That's debatable.
Tell me about the 30 Years' War /his/
It was longer than 29 years but shorter than 31.
>>832293
It was bad ok?
Most destructive war in Europe until World War 2 came around
So that should tell you something
ITT embarassing historical facts
>>832219
why didnt the soviets simply use horse archers to invade Afghanistan
In all seriousness, was there any society more ridiculously decadent than the Roman Empire?
>>831789
Modern American Society.
t. an american
>>831804
Nah honestly we've not quite reached public orgy levels yet
>>831808
>What is pornography.
Besides tales of Roman decadence are hyped up by Medieval Christendom or Roman Historians shit-smearing Emperors. You're talking of a culture that the fucking Greeks considered uptight.
>one
>holy
>catholic
>apostolic
>church
The implication being that Luther rejects the Nicene Creed? He just reinterprets what apostolic means.

Butthurt Mexicans need to reply to every thread to show they aren't wasting their faith by praying to a picture of Mary.
What did the Celts and Germanics think of southern europeans?
What did the southerners think of the northerners?
>>831321
Back when the Romans were rolling, Germanics thought southerners were big bullies, Romans though Germanics were absolute savages. Celts were barbarians but would be assimilated easily enough.
After Rome started to falter, Germanics were the big bullies and they set up protection rackets across Europe. They would come to consider themselves of a superior breed, more noble, than the workers they'd lord over.
>>831354
Why are people who live in Germany cursed with a persecution and superiority complex?
>>831354
Germanics always.
Is this book actually any good, or is it Guns Germs and Steel tier?
I´ve read August 1914 by the same author. It was quite good.
>implying Guns, Germs, and Steel is bad
>>831260
oh fuck I´ve just realized it´s the same book. Sorry I read it in spanish.
>Nationalism is responsible for the creation and maintenance of literally every country on the planet with the exception of a few eternal empires
>Nationalism is agreed to be the deciding factor in the final fall of Feudalism and the introduction of Europe to the initial stages of the industrial revolution
>Nationalism has proven itself without failure to be the only thing besides religion that can unite, rally, and inspire a group of people to cooperate with each other for the common good - and therefor the only thing capable of doing so in a secular system
>Despite all of this Nationalism is seen as "backwards" and "primitive" and needs to be eradicated in the name of "progress"
When will the meme of hating Nationalism for no reason finally die, /his/?
>>Nationalism has proven itself without failure to be the only thing besides religion that can unite, rally, and inspire a group of people to cooperate with each other for the common good - and therefor the only thing capable of doing so in a secular system
No, it hasn't.
>>831101
Even the Soviet Union had a resurgence of nationalism during WW2 m8
No Russian is going to throw himself into the meat-grinder for a book about vague economic ideals
>>831090
>the only thing besides religion that can unite, rally, and inspire a group of people to cooperate with each other
Common needs and obstacles work fine too.
Sola Scriptura or Prima Scriptura?
Who cares only Jesus matters.
Neither
t. Orthodox

This, plebs shouldn't be interpreting the bible, that's the magisteriums job.
Hypothetically:
If God is real and Christianity is right, does Nietzsche have any value?
>>830254
A man that ends up in the looney bin has no value regardless.
>>830282
If Jesus was alive today he would be in the looney bin.
Sure, since his philosophy heavily intersect's with Dostoevsky's, who was extremely religious.
