How did the donmeh ascend to the top of ottoman society?
Well, thanks to devshirme the Ottoman power structure outside of the sultan was Islamized Europeans. They grabbed em young but not all those folks forgot where they came from. And in any case, thanks to sufism, that islamization process was heavily syncretised. Seems like a systemic blind spot.

It was a way to integrate all the population groups into the empire and it did seem to work till nationalism became a thing.
>What are your least favorite popular times in History?
For me, the Victorian era, boring as fuck, pretty much everything that came out of it is boring, literature, art, music, etc.
Also was my least favorite part in History and English class

>Also was my least favorite part in History and English class
I really hate how women (and it's almost always women) like these shitty victorian novels like Wuthering Heights or Oliver Twist. Like, holy shit, it's just a bunch of people getting shit on for 300 pages, were these authors trying to give people clinical depression?

A tale of two cities is so fucking boring, had to read it for Victorian era and wanted to blow my brains out
Just found out my family comes from Shetland.
Any historic tidbits anyone has to share about this area? Feel like it was just another island vikings fucked.
Shetlands had the Norn language, a now extinct North Germanic language
They have shit horses and shittier weather
Got a few mates from Shetland, was up there a couple of weeks ago for one of the regional Up Helly Aa's. Torching a longship is great fun, even if Up Helly Aa is totally ahistorical
Do you guys know of any good books about Thomas Müntzer and/or the German Peasants War? Preferably from a marxist perspective (as in what were the material conditions for Müntzers writings and influence and for the war itself) but it doesn't have to be.
pls respond

Held off the Persians but got pretty much oversaw the beginning for the end for the Romans by losing Syria and Egypt- though its unsure whether any emperor could have held that back
For some reason the Muslims still say he was a bretty good guy.
What are some good secondary sources to Max Stirner?
I currently have "Individuality and the Social Organism" and Stirner's biography on order.
>>905007
There is a book of sorts that Saul Newman, a solid political theorist wrote with a few other Stirner fans/theorists that "frames" stirner plausibly well in modern times.
I cannot remember the name at the moment and i do not have it at hand but it may well be titled
'Max Stirner' by Newman, check for pdfs

/his/ how did we handle the refugee influx during the Yugoslav wars.
How did integration go about, and when the war ended how did the return to the home country go about. Can we draw any parrallels with today?
>>904588
No. The scale, demographics, and sociological background of the people is far different.
At the same time the Yugoslavians were distributed much better in the past than the current "refugees".
How did the most influential people of the 20th century (ranging from Ghandi to Hitler and Stalin) become who they were?
Also, what were their greatest weaknesses which prevented them from becoming even more influential?
pic unrelated
You're not going to get a straight answer for that, as it falls back on the old, man makes the moment, the moment makes the man argument.
Who are your heroes, /his/?
I'm talking about real people, not fictitious chracters.
Mine are
>Jesus of Nazareth
>Jan Hus
>José Buenaventura Durruti Dumange
>Charles Manson
>Theodore Koczynski
>I'm talking about real people, not fictitious chracters.
>Jesus of Nazareth

Oh boy, something bit!
But yeah, I'm talking about the dude who was allegedly preaching and was killed for it, not the miracle worker who is also the son of god.
itt we talk about the absolute madman and based philosopher that Diogenes of Sinope was
>plato makes the definition of a man as featherless bipeds
>diogenes plucks a chicken
>takes it to Pllatos Academy
>"Behold! I have brought you a man!"
What are some good books/articles/theories that deal with power relationships between humankind and "nature". Nature in this sense I define as the sum of all non-human lifeforms (animals, bacteria, plants, funghi, algae, etc) and non-manmade environmental structures (mountains, woods, oceans, etc).
I'm looking for something that emphasizes the dialogical nature of power relationships, and focuses not just on one side of the argument. (i.e. How does man exert power over nature and how does nature exert power over man).
Something I found in another thread, which seems to fit the bill:
>Industrial Society and Its Future (Theodore Kaczynski)
Feel free to get more specific and tell us your own thoughts on the subject in the ensuing discussion! :3
Look into deep ecologists like Pentti Linkola, even though he is a bit of a doomsday prophet if that is something you do not like.
